I was just about to write that. You can be a native speaker and receive a low score simply because you prefer not to respond to a straightforward question with a three-minute answer. Makes no sense
Finally someone who thinks the same as me!If you're an introvert, you have no chance at something like this! That's a problem. Another problem is when ratings are based on likeability (very strong here in Austria)
Sometimes these exams feel truly absurd. "When was the last time you went shopping at Tesco?" was answered with "About a week ago". If this type of answer is considered problematic because it's too short, then the exam evaluation criteria need to be reviewed or the questions need to be changed. No english person ever would add anything to this answer in a REAL conversation. For the REAL world, this was a perfectly valid answer. (I passed a similar english test with 111/120, so it's not like I'm writing because I'm angry at them)
yes i used to think about that. but now i think to myself to always add “whats the experience?” in my mind after being asked. simply cause i think the more we speak, then more things could be determined by the examiner. if its short answers, then theres no challenge for us, nothing to be scored.
@@haniy167 that is because the evaluation criteria push you to think this way and force you to invent as many things as possible for every answer that you give. But my point is that forcing you to do that is not a good evaluation of your english level, rather an evaluation of your capability to come up with some random thoughts quickly. Real conversations don't work this way, so it's pointless to test your english skills with something that doesn't really say anything about the effectiveness of your communication.
@francesco5254 you are absolutely right. These questions test how quickly the person is able to imagine the situation and come up with a response. It does not test at all the person's ability to articulate his thoughts during normal conversations.
No worries, it's no shame to be failed at all. It may looks funny to some but they are the ones who just do not dare to take on new challenges. Being failed at something makes you successful put it that way. I am pretty sure he will be much better user of English in the future regardless of how many times he fails.
he many times said 'what' when he should have said 'that', instead of saying ''i love gardening'' he said ''i love YOUR gardening'' these grammar and vocabulary mistakes made him lose many points definetely
He started very well but the main problem was at part 2 because that the most essential part to pass the exam you shouldn't have stopped or hesitate or even confused you have to continue regardless if you are doing grammer errors...
The judge explained why he got a low score, but his "correct" way doesn't sound like a daily normal conversation. "Certainly, please allow me a moment to take my passport out of my pocket and turn to the page with the credentials..." Gah! Just take it already! I'm starting to realize that IELTS Speaking scoring is pretty subjective. Although there are criteria on how they score the students, but there are some examiners that are ok with "pause, repeat the question, talk slower (as long as using the correct grammar and tenses)", but apparently not with this Academy English...
I wouldn't say he deserves a band 4. 5.5 to 6 would be something I'd say. His English was nice, with frequent errors but way better than many non-native speakers. His body language wasn't incorrect too.

I think this is a great example of how students often misunderstand how the speaking test is marked. This person probably would not score a 4.0, but a 4.5-5.0 is quite likely. The [full] speaking band descriptors are available to the public now and you have to be able to meet all the positive criteria of a band to qualify for that score. In the beginning he did well with part 1, but those questions are designed to be quite easy and are used mainly for the candidate to get comfortable with the test format before moving onto the other sections. The main weighting of the score will come in the later 2 segments. In parts 2 and 3, he definitely relies on pauses and hesitations to answer the question(s). His vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation is not exemplary enough to warrant a higher score than a 6. I will say that the (mock) examiner was not very supportive and moved onto the next question when it was clear the candidate demonstrated problems with understanding of the question. The candidate could have produced more coherent langauge if given the opportunity.

He clearly hadn't prepared for the exam before passing it. He could have braced for it by familiarizing himself with all the details of IELTS speaking. If he had been mindful of the details and practiced them, he could have obtained a higher score than the one he received on his speaking exam. The mistakes which he made, which Adrian pointed out are unacceptable if you want to get a higher score. I agree with that. I hope he will pass it much better. Good luck to him.
what the heck? He got 4 on this, this is ridiculous but although he did some mistakes specially stopping in between speaking. If he didn't do that clearly he deserves a 6
This deserve 6 bands
I know a person, Shivam he is amazing at speaking 💜 better than average
I would stuck on grocery question too, it's just a stupid topic, what is there to talk about???
I still understand what he said, he deserves more scores.
That's bascially a 4.
I didn't see it until the end. Yep, he sometimes has a gap to talking
You are right tutor, he deserves a band 3 even.
fix your english before commenting on other’s people level when he is clearly better than you at it

I am really getting real expressions in regards of IELTS from these video
I think 4 is what he deserved
Because of:
1 long pauses
2 repeated things
3 lack of sentence variety
4 did not complete whole speaking properly
5 not good frequency
6 not presenting it properly
7 lack of content
And many more things
Today is my speaking test😭😭😭..wish me luck guys i really need it
I saw a video where a guy used “you know” all the time and yet got 9, so why are there different assessment criteria and words that may and may not be used?
This test is worst nightmare for Introverts

@@Aehelp maybe he was not fluent because he was scared or under pressure but he understood every single question and his answers was not that bad we definitely got his point being
'you know ' I suppose this phrase is totally normal
