On 17 January, 1961, Patrice Lumumba, the first legally elected prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was assassinated. Described as one the most significant assassinations in modern African history, this heinous crime is widely believed to have been the fruit of two inter-related conspiracies which were led by the US and Belgian governments.

We have always been painted this picture of WWI and WWII where forces of good joined hands to eradicate evil, but when I read about British, French, Belgium Colonialism it made me realize there were Hitlers in all those countries. Thank you for sharing this with us. All the way from Sri Lanka.

If you can't tell the difference between Hitler and European colonization, you have a lot to learn.
Don't forget the spanish and portuguese colonialism in south America and the Carribeans, and american colonialism in the Carribean as well (Puerto Rico for instance) and the slaves trade.
Hitler didn't actually hate other people and their countries. He just wanted Germany to be German. Kinda how Africans want Africa to be for them. As an Australian looking into African politics through these videos nothing depresses me more politically than seeing the potential of the African continent being lost from corruption internally and from western powers. I hope one day like China these nations will rise economically.

Thank you for this. Recently, my girlfriend was telling me about reading she was doing about electric vehicles, and how that demand leads to child labor in the congo who produce more cobalt than anywhere else, and went really into detail about how many resources are there we depend on. Having not long before learned about how pretty much every socialist and/or non pro US imperialism leader in South America and the Middle East gets assassinated by the CIA, I said:
"Why is such a mineral rich nation in such terrible shape? I'm willing to bet they elected a socialist who was not as keen on letting the Western world exploit their resources, and the us assassinated them and destabilized the region for leverage."
Turns out I was right.
As an American if you makes you feel any better they’ve done it to our leaders as well. President Kennedy, his brother Bobby and Martin Luther king junior were all killed by the cia / imperialists that control the country to this day. Kennedy wanted luminance freed, wanted to investigate Israel’s dimona nuclear weapons plant and wanted better relations with Arab countries including Egypt and Iran. Lumumba was remarkably intelligent, he had once said at the University of Sorbonne that he does not need to go to university, University is for people who were not born smart he can learn everything himself. In addition, he rejected all forms of corruption and manipulation of Belgians and Americans.

The same story was repeated in Pakistan when we had one and only nationalist - anti west leader Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto (father of late Benazir Bhutto) to take charge of the country. He initiated our nuclear programme. He was thorn on the side of Americans. Henry Kissinger famously threatened him with these words " we will make an example of you" . He was plotted in a murder of a political opponent tried and ultimately hanged by Army coup leader General Zia-ul-Haq who was supported by the CIA as Pakistan services were required in Afghanistan to support Afghani rebels to fight the Soviet forces.
Yea I will call these Afghan fighters rebels not Mujahideen as western media called them back then.Those little cockroaches helped Americans to take revenge of their defeat in Vietnam. They were played by the Americans to the point of the fall of Soviet Union.
There has been three great tragedies of twentieth century one was the defeat of Germany in WWI and fall of Ottoman empire as result. second Germany losing WII and last was the fall of Soviet Union. Factors in force behind all these three big events were traditional imperial powers plus USA.
How can a Belgian king claim “ownership” of a country in the middle of Africa?! Please explain how that works. How did no one see that was gonna be a disaster? The whole “ruling in his personal capacity” instead of the Belgian government should have also warned everyone. Other countries colonized Africa but not one ever had one man rule by a European monarch such as this.
I am from Nigeria but I am a 100% Lumubaisim.
The problem wasn’t solely The Belgians or Americans but the Congolese. They betrayed Lumumba. They also supported a corrupted Mobutu who was a stooge to Belgians.
Africans must stand united, if not indirect-rule will continue and we only have ourselves to blame.

Thank you for educating me on African history. Of course, your videos are only a starting point to the investigation, but they are indispensable. Africa, and the rest of the world, need to recognize the folly of collectivism, regardless of its latest disguise (democracy, progressivism, environmentalism,....) The only legitimate function of any government is the protection of individual rights. Groups, regardless of the attributes shared by the members, cannot have any rights, because they can never have the corresponding liability. It's like trying to have an action without an equal and opposite reaction: unnatural, and violative of the laws of nature.

This story sounds shockingly similar to the story of Kwame Nkrumah President of Ghana. It's just horrible and sad what these people have done to so many countries, cultures, and people.
I do my best to learn about the atrocities that were part of a bloody past, because as soul crushing the truth is, it needs to be told. So much has been covered and denied by multiple powers, & the country as a whole is constantly being stripped of its riches without any compensation. I wonder what it would take for the various leaders in Africa to work together to take back what is theirs, to unify & create prosperity for everyone. I know I am a naive optimist, or an ignorant hopeful, at best, but surely something could be done to provide the people what they truly deserve, peace & prosperity, not decades of governmental manipulation & civil unrest.
