I mean, Hannibal is a manipulative bastard, but he's also not wrong about Jack, is he? He's just presenting the truth in a way that best suits his interests. This show LOVES that type of manipulation and it's so entertaining to watch.
As soon as you mentioned Hannibal alienating Will from a rival for his attention, I immediately flashed to Lestat as well! Hannigram is such an interesting ship: just about as toxic as a relationship can be and yet with the most rabid, zealous defenders (I count myself among them).

The forensic team behind our three leading players are definitely worth an honourable mention - I especially liked Beverley! Jack's a brilliant third wheel in this complicated courtship between Hannibal and Will, and I LOVE their dynamic! Laurence and Gina playing husband and wife in these emotional scenes was a masterclass - but my eyes can never stray far from the Murder Husbands!! Great reaction! Also, I'm sorry for your loss
Will: "Hey Hannibal, I'm sleep walking now, on top of all the other symptoms I already had."
Hannibal: "no worries, just stress. No need to see a doctor other than me."
Jack is definitely less bad than Hannibal, he doesn't kill and eat people for starters, but also, he treats Will as a convenient tool who must drop everything he's doing to come look at a dead body. Like, he tells Will to quit instead of letting him reduce his hours or letting him go back to his actual job; teaching. So, Jack does some bad things. :) But yeah, if Hannibal wants some discord between the FBI agents, because it's harder to find a famous serial killer if they're not working together. Plus, if Will's alone he's easier to seduce.
I employ an ethical butcher. I kill all my food myself, and I consider myself very ethical after all. XD

Those parallels and contrasts between Will/Hannibal and the serial killer of the week are very much on purpose. :) So if you see them, that's not you reading too much into things, you're seeing the things Bryan Fuller very much put there.
Hannibal smells Bella's perfume and begins a conversation about smelling cancer, and then sniffs Will. 🤔
So sorry for your loss...when I watched Hanni back in 2015 my mom was dying of alzheimers and this show was the only thing that could distract me ...
Shot composition in this show is just incredible. The last frame with Jack and Will on either side with that wall line dividing them…

You said that you gotta stop drawing parallels between the criminals of the week and our characters but please don't, the show is written to do exactly that, each criminal means something and has a reason. Everything has a reason in the show that's what makes it excellent to re watch. As much as I love Hannibal, I was with Jack up to this point. He is manipulative, he doesn't have malicious intent but at the same time the intent doesn't really matter when the consequences are the same. He prioritized the crime solving above Will. And that's plain wrong

Laurence Fishbourne and Bella (his wife in the series) are really married. The most normal couple of Hollywood... they stay quiet, they don't parade themselves like clowns... they're very private.
i'm loving how you read the characters so well-- compassionately but also intellectually getting into their motivations and the true intent of the writers even before you know it lol. I see a lot of reactors miss major details until later, which is fine, but you pick up on them p much immediately, as I expected given that you mentioned that you're an INTJ, lol, my favorite type for friendships and conversation. Ni doms and Se inferiors just get each other both abstractly and aesthetically in my experience🤌🏽👌🏽 and we notice the same things. 😌
I'm sorry to hear about your mother. thank you for sharing that with us. My mom had cancer too in 2020 and is recovering and managing the aftermath with medication and frequent doctor's visits. It was devastating, the news, and I just remember thinking every day, "I can't lose my mom. I can't lose my mom. What am I going to do without my mom?" I hope she doesn't get it again. It progressed as it did bc doctor's neglected to look into her concerns more seriously earlier in the year when she came to them with worries about the growing lump in her breast. :/ Typical w how they be treating our people, especially Black women, in hospitals. I'm hoping you feel peace and can visit memories with more comfort than pain as time goes on. Shedding a fellow thug tear. 🥲💗
I have a very love hate relationship with jack cause he def isn’t protecting will like he said he would and when will snapped at jack the way the whole team reacted tell me a lot about jack (is not a safe place for his team and they don’t trust jacky to react normally)
