Thanks to The Unlucky Tug's videos for teaching me and for clips used in this video.
And a MASSIVE thanks to Adam from Thomas Theorist for babysitting me through this and teaching me how not to be stupid. Thanks Adam!
Heey, gonna just answer some FAQ's and comments.
"Why can't you just buy 'x' thing for 'x' amount of money?"
Like I said in the video, I live in Australia and things can be expensive and hard to find. My options are kinda low.
"Use lubricant to fix the American engine"
I will have to try this at some point but something is telling me that the quality of the engine is just bad in general. This engine was supposed to be "new". It wasn't used.
"Replace Thomas' motor, unscrew him, lube him"
Yeah, I'm not skilled enough right now to be replacing motors, plus they cost too much. I don't think lube is gonna help Thomad because it isn't that he wont run smooth, he's just old and needs warming up before going.
"Turn Alfie into Lady"
No
"Smokey Joe is supposed to look like that"
Yeah, so? Doesn't mean it doesn't look bad?
If any more queries come up I'll try to put them here
I subscribed to you❤❤❤❤❤
GIVE THE DOWT ENGINES LIKE TAKE ALONG FACES1!1!1!1 so they are more realistic to real dowt engines

As a modeler myself, I can personally confirm, getting into it is definitely confusing……. And frustrating. Hell I’ve been using model trains since 2016 and it’s still frustrating. This video was awesome dude, can’t wait to see where you go with this hobby next.
14:33 Please don’t beat yourself up, this was honestly one of the most enjoyable watches I’ve seen from your channel ever! This video was entertaining from start to finish, and I’m sure people would want more in the future 🙏🙏🙏
This was so much fun to watch.
I don't dare fall down the model train tunnel but as a miniatures, board and role play Gamer the highs and lots were so familiar!
Now this is why I prefer Hornby. It looks realistic and it mostly runs great.
I don’t really like Hornby Thomas. But if I were Hornby, I’d just strap a Jinty chassis on it.
Agreed
“Realistic”
Honestly I just use the Bachmann track because I don’t want my engines to get fluffy on the carpet.
@@MSMFurcorn22 Yeah, I use Bachmann track too. It’s just easier to work with.

Bachmann Thomas's face always induced nightmares...
My advice for looking for model trains is to find local hobby shops or dedicated train stores (either online or in person), as well as looking for train shows in your area. I hardly ever buy anything new because of how expensive trains are these days. Also ALWAYS read the description of an item online and look at it very closely before buying, and ALWAYS ask a seller if the engine works before buying it. Hope that helps!
there are no model hobby shops near me
all online ones are way too expensive
i always read the description of listings
Ah dang, sorry my advice didn’t help. Still, best of luck all the same!
Pro Tip: When using red paint pens, try using dark red, since the normal red looks more pink than red.
For something that just uses paint pens, you did a pretty good job!

Yeah, because of the price of model trains, I don’t think I’ll ever get one and save my money for cheaper things
OH HELLO!-
Agree.
This is why knowing how to work on a model train will help you save money.
@@gamerfan8445that’s why I’m so grateful my parents got me a Hornby set when I was 8 let alone moving to America, where it’s the second best place in the world to buy model trains aside from the UK.
True
Me when my Bachmann layout doesn’t work out: “FUCKmann”
haha so funny..
Why you use bachmann tracks those are ugly and you can't ballast them well.
That is why most modeller use Hornby tracks those look better work better and you can ballast them
Dang you’ve been through a lot in a very short time. I’d love to see more of this layout when you’ve done some more work on it!
So as a bit of wisdom from someone who has been model railroading for quite some time and who's dealt with hundreds of used engines.
I would recommend, if you're going to continue buying used engines, is to start learning how to service them. These are miniature machines after all and in order to run at their best they need to be properly maintained. The reason why your American 0-6-0 doesn't run very well and is noisy and why the engines you went to test didn't run is probably because the old lubricants in them have hardened or dried up increasing the load on the motor exponentially more. The electrical pick ups on them were probably also quite dirty not helping matters. I'd recommend OOBill's channel to start seeing the ins and outs of servicing models and what you should be looking out for.
The best comment on the whole video.

I can relate to the common problems and issues regarding model railroading. Especially when it comes to unpacking Bachmann Thomas Engines & Rolling Stock.

I think That this looks great! Accidents happen now and again, but it’ll be fine. You could get some grass for the ground, and maybe work on getting some coaches. But this will be fine!
Have you ever seen a big ass spider in your house?
the bachmann obsession u r in it to
Ay @TTTE_Guy, Fun act: 3:35 Joe was a real locomotive, Basis - Caledonian Railway 264 Class 0-4-0ST "Caledonian Pug" painted in British Railways Black
2:59 That's based on a GWR 101 "Holden Tank"
That Percy looks really good
The Australia argument is kinda situational tbh, if your living in a major city, or even a surrounding city it’s not too hard to find good stuff for a good price, even preowned, just depends on how you go about looking for things, and how much you’re willing to pay for shipping 😅.
Marketplace or eBay can be a great source, but often requires more consideration than a place like Amazon, if you go about it right, you’ll end up with some great stuff, I often buy preowned from marketplace, no inspection, and it will often be fine.
I know it hurts the wallet, but try not to go too cheap if you can, it’s often worth the extra shekels if you have em.
Always feel free to ask the seller questions on a preowned item if you’re looking to know how it’s been used.
Check out local model train shows if you can, there are usually great pre owned stalls there, most of it is tested as well so it should work.🤷♂️
Happy train hunting!
Ottimo lavoro ttte guy hai il tuo treno a modello elettrico e lo pure io 💖
When I was young I always want Thomas model and I'm glad you follow your dream
I think I might know what the secret engine package is going to be: a new Thomas
"Hooray". 8:56
Love your video TTTE Guy I hope you get more Bachman
Yeah I feel you, I just started model training too. It’s hard but I’m trying. Advice though, don’t be so ambitious I just bought a starter set at a yard sale and some more track.
i got a bachmann thomas set + a mail car for my birthday party and im sure this video will help me in the future
13:02 that’s because his motor is dying it’s been used too much or if it’s not the motor it’s the lubricants because overtime. if it’s been sitting for a while, the lubricants dry out, so it doesn’t run properly and it makes loud noises
Looks like a good start!
7:52 “AHH-“
I only own the 671 turbine locomotive
A tip would be commissioning a custom gearbox with a coreless motor, its cheaper than constantly replacing thomas, I put one in mine and my tuomas will run flawless for a good while now
Also commisions would be easier than actually modding him yourself, plus you could even end up with cool custom faces
Amazing thx for this video this makes me want to work on my model trains again
hey, ttte guy, you can take the body off without screws i believe, it's held on with clips, and it's a separate piece than the running board
No way. You live in Australia too! Sorry I just like knowing other Thomas fans in Australia. Yeah i just remembered I said something kinda like this in the NSW Donald short.
TRAINIAC!
The Chattanooga Train is used, and the coal intentionally can fall out for realistic loads, it’s just a used train set that needs some good lubercating for the motor or a overhaul, I know this because I have a huge model train collection
1:34 watch SMT mainline
From what I believe (and my own experiences) the coal in Bachman models is removable, hence why it falls out.
Can we talk about how good that Percy repaint is??
One of my favourite youtouber lives in Australia like me
0:02, you mean Railfan?
1:27 Thomas: 😒
2:53: oh my god 😑
id recommend buying some of the old triang stuff from the 60s because they are fairly reliable and relatively cheap depending on which engine you get, but idk how much it differs over seas, good luck with the layout
oh yeah, we got perry
Thomas in the start: borken
Thomas in the end: (BOOOM!!!!!!!!)
I actually had 2 Bachmann train sets one that I got from Christmas of 2019 it was a BNSF Super cheif who has since became main RUclips star and the second one it was a Bachmann n scale csx and I had some Kato n scale starter pack cars and I had to fit the cars with the set and they fit perfectly kinda
I got a Bachman Thomas and he decided to pull a shed 17 and his fave comes off
If I could give a suggestion of what you could do with the dying Thomas, you could either try and commission an expert to restore the model. Or you could remove it and simply have it be a free wheeling model.
In addition, if you want, perhaps you could give the engineer unique paint job? Whether with a different or perhaps a dirty Thomas? Or if you want to be super out there, maybe a Thomas, who has been vandalized with graffiti?
I can help:
1: If you need easier Connections, use Bachmanns E-Z Track System
2: Prices are high due to detail levels
3: nice buildings create Realistic Worlds
10:36 WOWEE!
This was uploaded on my birthday
I can't believe I was in a collab with TTTE Guy (6:08)
Good video and I recommend buy from train shows they are pretty cheap
I want to start a model railway soon, but I don’t have the space all I have right now is a really small table. I can only put a circle or track a Hornby Thomas and a couple American trains.
0:57 Me too *and my sister lol*
I’m not sure about Australia but I like mainline railway rolling stock cheap and quality! Also you might want to add something under the track. The fluff from your carpet can mess with the track and engines.
From learning from an old man who has experience with trains maybe Thomas isnt getting enough power either due to rusty wheels to transmit power to the motor or the rails are rusty so I maybe would try would be on the elder's experience is to try and sanding or filing the rust away from the wheels or the rails so they have a stable power transmission or get a stronger power adapter for the rails
2:36 I feel your pain bro
Bro is literally me, just focused on PURELY Thomas, and with a bit more space and money.
I mean, I have more Bachmann engines than bro, but I got them from my mom for Christmas and my birthday, and it's been a few years
Model train That's amazing
I recomend you the reviews of Sam's trains channel, where he cover various aspects of a model such the detail, performans, prize, puling power etc. And also do other stuff like news, april fools vids, etc.
TTTE Guy x Bachmann Henry is my otp 😌
Ayowhat
1:12-1:25 as an Aussie I relate 😅
As someone with a big Bachmann layout, i can relate.
I love this video
HO American stuff is usually loud af a lot, also the coal in the hopper is supposed to come out for if you want to leave it empty
i have now watched this 6 times
This has inspired me to stick to n gauge and NOT switch to bachman.
looking at second hand models is a good idea
I plan on getting back into model trains when I move out of my mom’s house someday.
0:37 Underground Ernie is a good show and no one can tell me otherwise
Tip: when buying models that are from different country settings, check the couplings to see if you can use them
I’d love more
Regarding the grinding noise in that Bachmann 0-6-0, it probably needs lubrication like a plastic compatible grease on the gears.
You Should Give Percy Take Along Or Any Face
I recommend N scale, it takes up less space, but it is small.
Did you record the opening on a phone? Also good vid
I just started my Bachman obsession
If you ever want tò re Paint Percy dont worry about breaking the model since the body Is diecast and you dont have tò un screw anything you Just Need tò Press the two clips on the bottom side of the boiler.
Hope this helps
When I open bachmann boxes I cut the to open the plastic right above the engine. Normal it preserves the plastic and cardboard.
