    Helpful video. I couldn't find the part number for the oil filler tube anywhere until I found your video. 👍🏼

    Did mine a couple years ago, dry as a bone. 99 k2500 5.7 Burb 156,000 miles and runs as good as the day I bought it.

    If your in a pinch wrapping the pipes pcv valve with electric tape will help expand the grommet enough to seal. Great video it’s hard to find info on these engines. Especially for Cadillac

    Thanks for the video. I was wondering how to remove and replace the oil filler neck on the Valve cover? I have a 4cylinder equinox. The neck on mine is loose like in your video. On the equinox forums they say it’s fine. But I know it’s not. How does the neck come off? I tried twisting off but it won’t. Am I missing a step? Thanks in advance

      Not sure about your vehicle, but on the vehicle in this video the filler is a male thread with an o-ring seal and the valve cover has a female fitting for it to screw into. I'm sure each engine has a different design though as that's the GM way. ;-)

    Just curious. Can a faulty oil filler neck O ring at the valve cover which is definitely causing an oil leak result in low oil pressure?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Год назад +2

      Nope, purely an external (i.e., cosmetic / mess) problem if that o-ring fails. There is no pressurized oil in the filler neck or valve cover pcv areas.

      Actually if those gromits or any other top end oil leak has the ability to suck in un metered air. Computer will notice and compensate by closing the idle air control more causing the air leaks to leak more or pull in dirt covered oil. Also if you have a Pcv that pulls air ether way the idle air control will hang up and annoy you (ie trying to power through the brakes at a light) or holding high rpm during a shift. For about a year I unplugged my iac and drove it without. Turns out that works but is dumb. At high rpm it reverse sucks air through the breather tube which brings oil with it. Then the carbon chunks inside the intake start letting go and end up in a chamber. Hard enough chunk can bend a valve or worse. Also carbon in a cylinder can glow like a bbq briquette and cause detonation. Lucky for me I caught it early.

    Thanks! I just ordered. Do you still use 5-30W oil or have you upped the viscosity? (I had to on my 7.4L gas as I was getting "Check Gauges" due to low oil pressure at idle after long and hot Frwy drives).

    My pcv tube broke inside the grommet would I have to take off the valve cover to take it out.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  2 года назад

      I'd see if I could get a long nose plier in there to remove the grommet with the broken off pipe piece first. If it looks like the plastic is going break up and fall into the valve train area, or you can get it out then I'd pull the cover. If you have to pull the cover, don't forget to replace the gasket.

    Can the loose oil filler neck cause low oil pressure? ~22 -25psi

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Год назад +1

      No, not at all. There's no oil pressure in the valve covers, it would only lead to leaks and perhaps PVC blow by (which again would cause a leak stain). Low oil pressure is going to be dirty or non-OEM grade oil filter, dirty or wrong grade motor oil, or a problem with the oil pump internal to the engine. This is, of course, presuming the oil pressure gauge is reading correctly and the oil pressure sensor is reading correctly.

    What did you use to clean your valve covers they came out so good

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  3 года назад +3

      Soapy water with Dawn dish detergent. It's a fantastic and non-toxic degreaser.

    • @NKC_Studio
      @NKC_Studio 3 года назад +1

      And all you did was just wipe up the soapy water you didn’t like wash it down with a hose or water or anything

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  3 года назад +5

      I wouldn't recommend getting a hose on the engine, these old vehicles are no longer water tight in many places and you can cause electrical problems to creep in. Just wiping it off with dry shop towels to start, and the soapy solution for the tougher spots should be fine.

    What if oil is leaking from the bolts on the valve cover ?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  2 года назад +1

      You should check the torque, these can loosen with time/vibration. There is no gasket used on the bolts or their mounting holes though.
