I grew up in Quiapo until my family emigrated to the U.S. in 1975. I lived in Cruzada Street off Legarda. I also attended elementary school in San Sebastian College whose basilica you visited. Brought back many memories. The church exterior looks dilapidated with rust; I hope it gets restored to its glory. Back then, there was no mosque. Now it seems that there is a sizable amount of Muslims in the area. I envision Quiapo turning into a primarily Muslim district someday. Quiapo Church square looks much neater, but the chaos around the perimeter remains. I recognized Mercury Drug, a few historical houses, and the jeepneys. The rest all look new to me. I’m glad you had a great time in my old district and thank you for sharing your adventure with your viewers.
Wow, how times change! Yes the Golden Mosque was built in 1976 but that area is only around 4 blocks or so. It's still relatively small but very friendly and some great food (I'll have to go back!) They were doing some work on the dome of San Sebastian Church... Hope the whole church can be restored!
@@KumanderDaot Being a guide is like being a teacher. You just need to know a little more than the person you're guiding/teaching to be considered an expert (and never let on that you're not as smart as they think you are). Take it from someone who substitute taught for 10 years. Haha!🤣
I watch your vlog because you feature the reality of the Philippines and there is no filter which I am most impressed that you did not limit yourself of the places you visited. Thank you or Salamat
Wonderful camera work with progressive editing and definitely a nice documentary framework ambiance. Excellent use of natural lighting, that is a very good plus when on the move. Have fun, KD. Enjoy kulas and Therine wedding.
A ham sandwich -how British is that! 😂 The churches in the Philippines are just so amazing! I had no idea there was one built from metal in Manila-this is why we all love your videos and what they show us. Glad the sickness didn't last long 😊🏴🇵🇭
Thanks Kumander for showing Quiapo. I can't remember the last time I was there. Loooooong time. It's changed a lot. Much better than the last time. I can't wait to go back and see it again. I used to go to Quiapo Church. Salamat Po.
Yes, Ty Anselm, so interesting to view the church & learn its corrugated metal from Belgium. I’ve viewed it before online, but never knew these facts. Nor of the UNESCO worries. Maybe I will look into that some more….Ty also for the great editing: walking street level, or cruising the river level, then seamlessly Bird’s Eye view. Just where one would appreciate a drone’s eye. & Ty for ALL THE SNACKING. Merienda Man. I would’ve gone with the mungo…or Ube hopia. Your friends’ establishment, YUM! 💜Chana masala & anything ground beef; & Ty for pointing out the cool pinwheel texture & method to create it. 🫓Your friends truly love you. They take good care of you.
Oh my! I paused to comment & as I restart the video: there are Susie & Jonathan! Wowieee! Luv seeing y’all together.🤩🤩🤩No reason but that I’m Fangurling. FanVintageGurling. BIG TIME. Thanks!
Oh no, sorry to hear you were ill a bit. I gotta say I wondered early in this video while enjoying all your snack stops (as I frequently wonder for Susie, too), how is it your stomachs are so resilient. Mine never was in my visits to the Philippines, even when my tummy was a young woman’s tummy. But to be fair, my stomach didn’t fare well in Mexico either. ❄️🍽️
I’m only 5 minutes into this video and enjoying it. I love the drone footage and narration you add, KD! Really makes me miss my birthplace! Love how you show the foods, the markets, the streets, love hearing the sounds of the city! Wonder if you’ll vlog Kulas and Therine’s wedding? Looking forward to it if so! 🫶🏼🌞
I always enjoy seeing the Philippines thru your eyes. There's something about the way you record and present it that is so appealing. All the heritage buildings and the beautiful churches are something to behold - traces of Metro Manila of the past. And all the power lines that were run through the building to the homes on the other side.🤯 That's always fascinating and surprising to see. Who'd have thought you'd go to BGC so many times in such a short span when you hadn't be there before just a few weeks ago?
Hi KD, I see I have a lot of new vids to watch, I was in vacay to different parts of of the country like you but nowhere near your adventures. I like my adventures with comfort. Looking forward to watching ypur unique travel vlogs.

I was born and bred in Manila, but left in 1984. At this point in my life, the only thing I really miss about Manila is that lumpia from Globe. Wish I could make it. Thanks for the memory!
some years ago,I took a round trip on Pasig River Ferry as part of my work. The round trip last longer than my work but it's all worth it. Hope to bring my child with me soon on that ferry trip
OMG, Kumander, get well soon! That's why I never allow myself to get tempted to buy those colourful drinks from side walk vendors. Well, I did once about 3 years ago, I bought a coconut drink. Thankfully, I didn't get sick. But I was disappointed with the flavour. The coconut juice tasted like sweetest water.
I love quiapo, when i am in manila i always stay there. Like 1 minute from quiapo church! Love the area and the people! Only times i been makati was to go belgian embassy for my marriage paper things. Wish i was there so i could meet you haha !
