Nice video James, I bet I wouldn't be able to say the name right! Well as e-reader it looks like it features the basics.

Really informative video, I'm looking for some ereader for my collection of epubs/manga files and I think that 8-ish screen is the right size so this could be a nice choice.

Is it possible to connect a Bluetooth keyboard to this, and then type on a note-taking/word processing app from the Play store? Or will it only connect to Bluetooth speakers? Thanks

I have the Ares, which the P78 has just superseded. I received it from Boyue factory yesterday after they updated the system for me, so now it also runs on Android 8.1.
I like its operating feel, but am still trying to make it display all of the ebooks stored on the128GB SD card I've just installed. It won't display the books onscreen in browsing 'library shelf' thumbnail picture format like it displays books stored on the internal storage, even though the user manual says it does. I spent hours on reading and rereading the manual and fiddling around with the settings.
I would really like to browse the books I have stored on the SD card so I can choose which to read next. I'll contact Boyue or Sherry later to see if it's possible or not.
At the moment, I can choose to browse the internal storage, and view books by their covers, like I want, or choose to browse books stored on the SD card and just see basic data about all the different book formats stored, but no thumbnail pictures' option, and they don't display on the default homepage library. I have to choose a book before it will display as a thumbnail picture in 'library'.

Blue light is not a myth, that's the wavelength that suppresses melatonin. All clinical sleep medicine organizations agree on that and it's the clinical advice from sleep specialists that treat circadian disorders.

Do you know if this will connect to a dual band wifi router? I recently tried a Kobo eredaer which would not connect to my wifi. I have a virgin dual band router and as most ereaders will only connect to 2.4ghz.the Kobo seemed unable to connect as the 5ghz is also running. I did not want to have to disable the 5ghz channel on my router. Any advice on this would be much appreciated. My other reason for considering the P78 is the usb c (extremely rare for an ereader). The Kobo would only intermittently be recognised by my Mac, using a hub connected to the Mac's usb c port. So frustrating. Thanks!

Hi Howard. I just did a quick test standing directly under my dual band router (to ensure it got the full 5Ghz signal and couldn't only see the 2.4Ghz part), and it definitely worked. BUT, that's a Unifi enterprise-grade access point, and I've never really had problems with devices that claim to only work on 2.4Ghz before, so that won't neccessarily be a perfect confirmation for you I'm afraid.
Worst case, you should be able to create another Wi-Fi network or just separate the two bands, rather than outright disable 5Ghz.

Can you add a keyboard to this? Would make for a good, distraction free environment to write with.

The lag / input latency waiting for screen refresh would be quite annoying, I think.

Great review! Does it do white text on black background, or is it black-on-white only?
    Astonishing Comic Reader! =)

Does both, though you tend to get some after images on large sections of black. There's a button to refresh, but you don';t really want to be pressing that after every page.

By default there is no way to enable it in the stock reading App. However, you have two options to make it happen, because the device is android based.
      1) install an secondary reading app from the PlayStore which has the desired option. ("Moon+ Reader Pro" would be one good solution)
      Or
      2) go into the android settings and enable "invert colors"

However, like James stated, heavy ghosting is to be expected. And you don't realy want to avoid it by full refreashing the screen more frequently or after every page turn. (It is possible to set the interval of refreshes in the stock reading app) I've tried it out in combination with die inverted mode, and can tell you, it is not worth it. A full refresh under this setting is like a flash of an lightning bolt.
To wrap it up. I fell for the idear to read white on black too. However this device dosen't support it well enough.

you ommitted speaking about performance problems; you even show freezing at 12:19, when screen is not reacting to pressing "light up" buttons, but somehow do not comment on that terrible performance

The UI is generally a bit laggy; I mentioned that. I haven't made a huge point of it, granted, because it didn't happen to so often and didn't bother me.
