    Masterful theory, Cayla! I really like that idea of Pokémon being corralled to control them to showcase the darker undertones of the Paris renovations. This would make perfect sense for a time period after Legends Arceus, where Pokémon are outright feared, but before our modern times, where we have a more utopic coexistence with Pokémon.

    I love your analysis, but I can't help feeling that it isn't quite right, or maybe not the full story. The thing that gets me is that in the sketch of the city, some of the clothes don't seem to be suitable for the period. Most notable to me is the woman on the right (seen at 2:32 in your vid) wearing a baseball cap, pants, and looks to have a ponytail. From a quick google, technically, there could be a woman wearing pants and baseball cap in the late 1800s (though pants were a special rule and baseball caps were only starting to be a thing in America) but would someone include that in their sketch if it was being made in that time period? Could the Pokemon world's Haussmann have made the Urban Redevelopment Plan based on what he saw in the future somehow?

    I think if PokeHaussmann is the focus of this game he'll be wanting to introduce more pokemon to the city rather than remove them. Pokemon in Hisui were aggressive, but I think people forget the NPCs mentioning that other regions had different relationships with pokemon, including battles and training already existing in Kanto. Making it a city "that belongs to people and pokemon" sounds a lot more like welcoming pokemon than removing them. The villainous angle may be trying to turn the tower into a new ultimate weapon, now surrounded by pokemon to power it

    • @CaylasCapsule
      @CaylasCapsule  4 месяца назад +3

      That doesn’t match with the historical information we know about Paris, though. I think the trailer is kinda encouraging that misconception on purpose so that we, who will almost certainly be working for Quasar, will slowly notice that they’re not totally morally in the right as the game goes on. But for people who know the history, there’s no connection to bringing Pokémon in to the city based on what we’ve seen so far.
      Keep in mind too that the entire game takes place in Lumiose City. So if we’re bringing Pokémon in, we won’t be leaving the city to do so.

    • @Shinntoku
      @Shinntoku 4 месяца назад +3

      @@CaylasCapsule I would argue that it does match the history of Paris, because part of Haussmann's beatification included adding hectares of parks and green spaces, as well as thousands of new trees to the city. Making the city more friendly to nature would be something that attracts them rather than driving them away

      @@Articfoxgamez It could be that we find out in the middle, and go work for a kind of "anti Quasar" if those are the baddies. • @eeeeggnog._.

    Honestly I still lean towards it being in the future. Game Freak doesn't copy their real world inspirations 1:1; they could be inspired by the redevelopment of Paris but that doesn't mean it has to be exactly the same and in the same time period. Personally I think based off the Lumiose we know and Zygarde's role as a protector of the ecosystem, it makes sense that the game would be in a future redevelopment of the city with the goal of making it more natural and habitable by a variety of wild pokemon. It could be that the entire point of the game is that we need to appease Zygarde by making the city more pokemon-friendly, as to not disrupt the natural world. Plus Kalos to me has always felt like the most modern Pokemon game, and it just feels more appropriate to explore a future one than a past one, in my opinion. The fact that the game supposedly takes place entirely in the city is what makes me team future, cause if the goal of the game is to develop Lumiose into the city we know, that wouldn't really leave any space for wild pokemon.

    • @masturluck
      @masturluck 4 месяца назад

      How does the future lumiose leave any more space for wild pokemon?

    • @eeeeggnog._.
      @eeeeggnog._. 4 месяца назад +1

      @masturluck supposedly the redevelopment of Paris was to open it up and add more water and green areas. The lumiose we know is very tight and urban, so it would make sense if we do something similar in trying to add more greenery, water, and any other kind of nature to allow pokemon to live together with the citizens of Lumiose. Since Arceus was based in the past and was all about wilderness and people only learning to coexist with pokemon, I feel it makes sense for this game to be kinda the opposite. Given that it takes place in city, and what the trailer said about coexistence, to me it would follow that this game is all about the coexistence of people and pokemon. The lumiose we know wasn't really like that, so I think it makes more sense to be in the future. Unless of course some other redevelopment takes place afterwards that makes it more urban again lol, but I doubt that

      In XY Lumiose, its only one layer. In the trailer, its 2 layers (A top layer - the XY one) and an added bottom layer with waterways. If Legends ZA is in the past, XY Lumiose makes no sense anymore.
      Another issue is that it makes no sense for certain Kalos mons (Or mons that are in the XY dex without a Mega) to Mega Evolve in the past, since in-lore, they cannot explain why they weren't in XY since the explanation in XY isn't there. While for a future setting, they easily can explain it with saying: When we dug deeper for the redevelopment, we discovered new Mega Stones.

    Really great video. I think it's funny to consider this a sequel to Arceus because Legends Z is very akin to Legends 2. Since Haussmann restaured Paris from 1853 to 1870 (but it lasted until 1927) and the Eiffel Tower was done by 1889 I wouldn't be against the idea of this game taking place in 1896 (a centuty before RGB) since Kalos in XY had its Kanto-isms. Maybe the Noble/Alpha equivalents in ZA will be Wild Mega Evos and they're out of control like RotomDex's SM entries describe.

    Pokemon Legends ZA will be set in the future for a number of reasons
    1. A past setting instantly locks out every Pokemon in the XY that didn't have a Mega, from getting a Mega in ZA if its a past setting
    2. In the trailer, we see 2 layers, a top layer, and a bottom layer with waterways. In XY, Lumiose City has only one layer and no waterways. That only is proof enough that Legends ZA will be set after the events of XY, especially if we add the lore of Sina and Dexio in Sun and Moon, where they mention the five heroes of Kalos (Calem, Serena, Shauna, Tierno and Trevor), but also that Sycamore discovered the Zygarde Cubes. Based on Legends ZA logo, the game will heavily involve Zygarde.

Whether the upcoming Legends game is past or future based, one this is clear: each player will have a hand in history; whether living it out of making history.

    As a previous post of mine implied I'm with you on this one, it wouldn't be a "Legends" game after all if it wasn't based on the past. I would add the whole late 19th century though, I don't see the whole renewal be only about architecture but also technology, for example city lighting and the first road vehicles were from that period, and they could tie it with some new specific in-game mechanics or new balls. In this sense it would be a perfect next-step cultural sequel to the world of Legends: Arceus. Interestingly enough Xerneas and Yveltal should still be dormant in that period, so I'm not sure how they're going to justify their eventual presence. Q: Are you going to make more videos on A-Z?

    Something that actually crosses over with the Haussmann Renovation was the Franco-Prussian war where Paris was under siege. During the siege, the citizens were starving and resorted to eat every last animal within the city. This included dogs, cats, rats but also the animals in their zoo like an elephant.
    So, making Lumiose City a place for both human and Pokemon feels somewhat weird.

    Based on the 3D blueprints to the 2D blueprints, it will be in the same time period as Pokémon X and Y. The Lumiose tower, the woman on her cell phone, the sky scrapers in the background, and the modern clothes would indicate a 1900s time period. The teaser video is a cartoonish impression of what architects build now for current urban renewal projects. I’d speculate that the themes from Mauville City in ORAS games and the XYZ anime were used in developing the plot for Z-A.

My answer would be this: an x chapters series that portraits the cultural evolution of the Pokèmon world from early civilization (Hisui) to the modern day (Kanto) with a primary focus on human-Pokèmon bonding, the development of technologies to interact safely with the creatures and prehistory. Z-A will be chapter 2 in this sense and in my view won't be the last, so the x is at least 3.
