    If we weren’t the protagonist, I feel like Kieran should’ve caught Pecharunt. It’s similar to him since they’re both small yet strong with some toxic traits but really just need love and support. Plus, since the Mochi Mayhem storyline shows Kieran’s redemption arc, him catching Pecharunt would be a neat little bow on top to end his story since he finally earned a strong pokémon like we did with Ogerpon

    • @CaylasCapsule
      @CaylasCapsule  8 месяцев назад +2

      I agree entirely! I think Kieran should have caught this one, and we should have been able to find another shiny one after this by bringing another mythical pecha berry to the tree in Area 0. That would have been perfect considering the clues they gave towards this, and it would have given the tree a more obvious meaning.

    • @Oceane1803
      @Oceane1803 8 месяцев назад +1

      Hell nah. Carmine is much more toxic than Kieran, she should have caught Pecharunt.
      Besides, Carmine is mentally abusive towards Kieran, and a big part of mental abuse is control. So it really fits.

    I have a theory that Ogerpon is a good peach grown from that tree in Area Zero whereas pecharunt is the same but it grew as a rotten peach, hence the poison and ghost type instead of grass

    definetly hanging on to the unrelaible narrator angle for pecharunt - was super excited for a devious mythical pokemon with actual instory shenanians, only to have it slightly deflated by a sympathetic backstory. Sometimes i'm in the mood for a perspective clash where nothing is quite black or white, but sometimes i just really love a jerk being a jerk for no other reasons than "i am kind of a jerk actually"

    • @CaylasCapsule
      @CaylasCapsule  8 месяцев назад +1

      Good news: the unreliable narrator angle is definitely what was intended. I made a Twitter thread with all the evidence for it.
      Pecharunt may not see itself as the bad guy, but that doesn’t mean what it actually did was good.

  • @gligarguy4010

    So if wearing a mask is all you need to stop Pecharunt's influence, he must have been especially angry during the pandemic.

  • @mikaiink
    @mikaiink 8 месяцев назад +5

    Very interesting and fun theory. I agree that Pecharunt isn't the most trust-worthy narrator but also while the website describes it sly in using manipulative tactics and acting like a child- I still see it somewhat like one.The old couple didn't seem like proper pokémon trainers (in the sense they lacked the knowledge on how to handle pkmn).
    As for the sign-post, I found it very interesting. If anything it feels like the last attempt on behalf of the Mask Maker to protect the villagers from Pecharunt's capabilities. After all, he had tried telling the villagers the truth of the matter but they weren't willing to listen to him... so this is the most he could. And to add on that, it could kinda help Ogerpon to blend in- as she still had a mask and is confused by a kid (but this one can be a stretch for most, to me I can see it work).
    I've always read that Kieran's desire for "power" stems from his lack of a proper identity. The fact that Carmine and him might be orphans, re-enforces this.
    And you are right- Kieran has zero control but that's because most of the ppl surrounding him didn't allow it (Carmine's overprotectiveness). It's why he broke the way he did... because he went at it the wrong-way due to the lack of proper experiences and guidance. I still say Kieran was more of an antagonistic character rather than a proper villain- it kinda saddens me seeing folks demonizing the kid for going through feelings like anyone does at his age... maybe some handle it better but there are folks who lack the proper instruments to deal with their own self-loathe and insecurities. No, in no way- am I excusing Kieran's actions. Just wished people spoke of the humans aspects of his story instead of reducing him into something irredeemable.
    It also doesn't help that the school that Carmine & Kieran- is overly focused on battling. Which I found interesting as Blueberry and Uva/Naranja Academy contrast a bit (for me) in ideals. Clavell is more focused on the humane aspects, while Cyrano reminds me a bit of Colress... which is fitting as BB Academy is located in Unova.
    So most pkmn stories presented in these titles (and previous ones)- not everything is as Black and White, as we want to portray it.

      Whenever I say villain, I really mean antagonist (or contagonist depending on the situation). I don’t think Kieran is evil or anything, just very misguided early on. So glad that he redeems himself in the Indigo Disk!

    • @Oceane1803
      @Oceane1803 8 месяцев назад

      I completely agree. Though I do think that his actions are excusable since he learned from his mistakes, apologized, and promised to do better, unlike a certain mentally abusive sister who is partially responsible for the way he acted.

    I think the only thing that confuses me about Pecharunt's possession is why only the Loyal Three has the purple chains. If it has something to do with time under the influence, or them having the chains by default, or maybe even some other reason, it might make sense.

    • @CaylasCapsule
      @CaylasCapsule  8 месяцев назад +3

      Could be so that it doesn’t have to keep feeding them mochi. For everyone else, it seems like the effects fade over time, so Pecharunt keeps feeding them. But the Loyal 3 are still loyal after being dead for like a hundred years.

    • @zerodragonsaiyen3268
      @zerodragonsaiyen3268 8 месяцев назад +1

      I think the chain only appears with Pokémon and even then in the Pokédex entry’s the chains have been stated to stimulate Monkidori’s brain Okiedogie’s muscles and Fezendipiti’s beauty so the chains were really there just to change the appearance of the loyal 3 and none of the characters that got possessed in the dlc changed appearance so there was no toxic chain.

    Surely the shadowy figure part of the sign is about Pecharunt, but it has to be about both. Pecharunt cannot wear masks; so it cannot be a fellow mask wearer.
    And yeah, pecharunt probably doesn’t actually know how the old couple really feels or their motives.

  • @blueshadeseraphim6926
    @blueshadeseraphim6926 8 месяцев назад

    This is purely speculative on my part, so for all I know I could be entirely off the mark here. But my theory is that Pecharunt’s story is partially true to an extent. It’s likely true the old couple were trying to fight against its control in whatever ways they could, but I do believe Pecharunt’s core motivation is that it’s quite simply a glutton for praise and admiration. However, that desire manifests in some obviously toxic ways. It’s possible it witnessed how the trainer and Pokémon dynamic works in that a trainer catches a Pokémon and that Pokémon pretty much does whatever the trainer asks of them unconditionally from that point onward, and just assumed that’s how relationships are supposed to work. However, as time went on and it eventually became aware of the fact that wasn’t true, it was already too hooked on the empowerment it gained through what it had done to bother stopping. Developing a mindset that it has the power to force people to love it and do as it says without question, and thus it has the right to use it as it pleases. A scarily all too common excuse actual people use for real insidious actions. Even if they may dress up such motivations with a more seemingly justifiable explanation. And when Ogrepon gave it a hefty dose of reality in almost killing it and knocking it out of its state of presumed invincibility, Pecharunt was enraged by what it felt to be an act of humiliation and defiance. And we can see this sort of spitefulness towards those that oppose it in how it mockingly grins at the player character and Kieran upon taking control of their friends. And the way it reacts in anger to its brainwashed lackeys not being enough.
    And really, that’s the thing with power-mad people like that. When their sense of superiority is threatened, their response is to lash out. Because if you think you’re perfect, you believe that can’t possibly have made a mistake. Someone else must be to blame for things not going your way.

  • @bandoaleciance

    How do you explain the discrepancy between what is written in the Pokèdex entries of the Loyal 3 - enhanced by the wishes granted by Pecharunt - and what is said in the short animation - as a consequence of their talent, Pecharunt made them its retainers. I don't see a way to salvage this, another oversight from GF. Speaking of the resurrection I think there's a simple coincidence involved. Pecharunt woke up after all those years of rest the exact moment the kid hit the signpost. Its retainers were reawakened by its restored power, since they are totally dependent on Pecharunt. Intriguing question: are we sure Pecharunt was already ghost type back at the time of the fight with Ogerpon? P.s.: Pecharunt and Ogerpon are gen 9's bests in terms of monster design and concept (Terapagos the worst in the same categories)

    • @CaylasCapsule
      @CaylasCapsule  8 месяцев назад +1

      What is said in the short needs to be carefully interpreted since it’s from Pecharunt’s biased perspective. I think for the Loyal 3, it’s a bit of both. Pecharunt noticed their talents, controlled them, then gave them “gifts.” I think Pecharunt wanted a family the whole time, but it’s way of showing love is controlling.

    • @Shinntoku
      @Shinntoku 8 месяцев назад

      It's worth noting that the gifts the toxic chain gave them are different from their natural abilities, at least with the two we see. Fezandipiti had its pheromone powers but Pecharunt gave it beauty, and Munkidori could see the future and Pecharunt gave it the wisdom to use that future sight more effectively. Okidogi is a less clear case because he was recruited while still living with the old couple

  • @geealion
    @geealion 8 месяцев назад

    One thing I’ve been thinking about is the way the Mochi Mayhem epilogue is triggered - with the fancy pecha berry gift. My theory is that since Pecharunt is poison/ghost, it’s basically rotted pecha berry jealous of your fancy & delicious one - one that everyone wants. Thoughts?

    • @CaylasCapsule
      @CaylasCapsule  8 месяцев назад +1

      Did you watch Pecharunt’s story? It used to gather those berries for its “family.” Most people are theorizing that Pecharunt woke up because the smell triggered its memory of its family.

      @@CaylasCapsule I really struggled with the epilogue. I get it but I felt it was a little silly. It did nicely close off the loyal 3’s story but it’s one I’ll likely never use or care much for.

  • @Shinntoku
    @Shinntoku 8 месяцев назад

    I thought the signs were about Pecharunt from the epilogue, but after the story video was released I don't think that's the case anymore. The signs can't be about Pecharunt because the people of Kitakami don't know about it. Also the "man or momster" part definitely isn't about Pecharunt because its says right afterwards that if it's a human you'll be fine, which contradicts the idea that it's warning about a human victim making you also eat mochi

    • @Shinntoku
      @Shinntoku 8 месяцев назад

      Also I don't think the Mythical Pecha berry is "almost impossible" to get a hold of, it's just a gift fruit. They're valuable and expensive but not something impossible to access. Pecharunt was just stealing from an expensive fruit store

    • @CaylasCapsule
      @CaylasCapsule  8 месяцев назад +2

      Pecharunt’s story is not entirely true based on the other evidence we have, so definitely be careful with using it as evidence. Like we know the townspeople saw the fight; they didn’t see it in Pecharunt’s story. Considering Pecharunt briefly appears in the grandfather’s story, how much people are aware of Pecharunt is pretty vague. Plus Kieran mentions an old curse during Mochi Mayhem. Seems like Pecharunt is mostly forgotten, but not entirely.

    • @CaylasCapsule

      @@CaylasCapsule looking back at the cutscenes from the game I don't think the villagers ever saw the fight, just the aftermath. They saw a raging oni surrounded by smashed ground and the bodies of the loyal three and assumed the three were trying to protect the village. Pecharunt had already rolled into the woods so it wasn't found until later and no one realized it was connected to the story
