- This unique reusable zero clearance insert will save remaking throat plate inserts to suit different blade thicknesses , angle cuts or dado stacks . Simply slide in a new strip and raise you blade .
Great idea👍
Glad you liked it . It’s been in my mind for a while now and I hope the views on this video grows .
Really smart!!!
This idea has been floating around my head for ages I hope this video does well .
If you found this useful please consider SUBSCRIBING it would make a massive difference to my channel, thanks
Great idea! I noticed you dont have the riving knife inserted. Is this just for cutting small pieces?
I know the Irving knife is a good safety feature but it only works with 3mm thick blades . I don’t bother with it but would recommend using it if you’re fast using the standard blade . I am disappointed this video has received so little attention as I see this zero clearance setup as far better than others . Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Sion
Very well produced video. My table saw is the 305mm model from China via Axminster. It’s not bad at all - except that they have done everything possible to ensure that zero clearance inserts are extremely difficult to make (due to the very thin edge of the insert required to fit the very shallow rebate of the table).
Just one point - you referred a couple of times to mm, when I’m sure you meant cm. No big deal - if you are a maker of any kind, you won’t get led down an alley by it.
Glad you liked it . I was originally going to make a long video about this but decided the target audience would understand how to make the replacement throat plate . Funny thing I think in CM for 99% of things and MM if its really small but I don’t understand large dimensions in MM
Just watched it and realised I was talking gibberish 23MM but I actually said 2.3MM sorry
@@sionhughes5543 you’re young. I was taught in yards, feet and inches and had to convert to metric. Metric is undoubtedly better for precision but I still thinks something is 2 feet or 3 yards or 4 miles away.
Just saw this for the first time today. You are very creative and thought this out well. I have an old 113 craftsman saw probably from the 1960s and has a metal insert. I really like your design. Do you fasten it down after each insert change or leave it unfastened?
I'm afraid I couldn't use it. I've been using table saws since 1974 and still have all my fingers. I try to use the fence every chance I get and unless I'm not making a through cut like a dado i always have the riving knife installed. I had a kickback once that was so strong it went into the wall and knocked a piece of the outside siding off.
And after I got married my wife would kill me if she knew I didn't use something on it.
However, I might just adapt it for the miter saw.
Oh well that’s for your input . Cheers Sion
