      There’s a fine line between letting the audience draw its own conclusions and lazy writing. I am not sure yet where this episode lands.

      @@GoDzkRoNiKz I hate to plug my own content but my recent breakdown might help cover this problem. I was in the same boat as you but after researching the episode, more aspects of it seemed to make sense.

      @@MrGreaves bro, good video tbh. I enjoyed it and loved some of the theories you came up with. But I came to a conclusion, if you need to hit the good old google to explain part of a tv show episode then the episode seems to be a victim of poor writing. Loved the doctor and mad jack swapping places theory. Great video! And I agree with u, it’s not a bad episode but it isn’t particularly good either

    I think this episode is basically just a turn left sequel and supports the trickster being behind all of this. It was the trickster in turn left and it took donna dying to reset the timeline and this was basically the exact same

      @@RDeverall no I think it really makes sense. Did you see that the theme ruby is singing in devil chord seems to be the one from the trickster?
      So the trickster is gonna be involved. Your idea supports this even more

    Notice too where the old woman first appears. In Irish folklore fairy trees are lone, sometimes weirdly shaped trees that it's considered bad luck to chop down (which is why they're often left alone in fields - farmers will harvest around them but leave them standing). They were believed to be gateways to the fairy world.

    A comment in another thread offered the best take I’ve yet read on the meaning of the mysterious ghost woman. Yes, the ghost woman is an older (deceased?) Ruby, but she also represents something much more terrifying. She is death, personified. Which is why she frightens away everyone who speaks to her. Her purpose for the audience is as a reminder that death stalks us all, our entire lives. Just as it does Ruby all of her life in the form of the woman. While death is rarely in the forefront of our daily human awareness, neither is it ever far away. You might say that it, metaphorically, remains 73 yards from us at all times. Which it literally does from Ruby throughout the episode. All that we can do is learn to live with our knowledge that we will one day die. That truth constantly lurks near us.
    Ruby simply accepts the ever-present mysterious older woman as an inevitable part of her daily reality. Recognizing, that there’s nothing she can do to escape the anxiety inducing presence 73 yards away. Until finally, Ruby is at the end of her life, and then the mysterious woman comes closer, and closer to Ruby while in the last moment of life. While in her nursing home bed, and no longer afraid, Ruby embraces her death. Sadly, Ruby spends much of her life alone, finally, dying alone. Which happens to far too many of us.
    Contrary to the suggestion of some haters, that this episode is pointless, it rather, contains so many worthwhile ideas and messages that its main fault is that it’s too ambitious for a one-hour TV program. It probably could have, and should have, been made into a two-part episode.

    (Great Spider-Man figure atop that flatscreen!!! :) )
    Many people have brought up the abondment issue. I was shocked that Mrs. Flood wasn't more *directly* involved in this story.)
    No, that young girl campaign worker was "R. Kelly-ed," as @nupefromdaville said on @Syntell !!!
    I was so happy to see Kate again!!! And I'm down with Nardole joining UNIT!!!
    Keep this up above and I'll keep this up here!!!!

    I dunno. I'm really not feeling as drawn back to DW after the problems with the stuff that happened with #13 (tho I love Jodie W). With this episode, I just couldn't imagine anyone saying anything to Kate Lethbridge-Stewart that could so immediately and utterly terrify her to make Kate flee any situation. Of all the weirdness we learn to accept, that's the thing I can't see as happening, Kate L-S running in anject terror. She's just too much her father for that.

    Good review of a good episode. I originally thought along these lines too. But now I think it's not about magic at all, it's that the perception filter attached to Ruby's tardis key malfunctions...

    honestly i am not going to lie but i actually think this season has actually been pretty good. they dont feel nearly as standard doctor who as its been feeling for the last several years which yeah is a good thing it feels like the doctor is going in a new direction and honestly does not feel like its nearly the woke grabage the internet is making it out to be.

    sooo... a fairy circle killed the doctor no chance of regenerating... almost like that gun he doesn't have and definitely never fired because if he did what ever it hits would be erased from time... wait a moment...

    Everyone, re-watch the Toymaker/Doctor challenge interaction, Jack and running away from something once seeing its true form, Also, Check out Carla Langer, hmm, Carla, and her episodes and 'The Curse of Clyde Langer'/'Whatever Happened To Sarah Jane?' from The Sarah Jane Adventures, lots of interesting overlaps....

    Just noticed, 0:21, standing in the distance just out of clarity and looking very similar to the distant entity, a. incredibly good cinematography, b. could Marti BRIDGES also be important? And, Jack in the box now makes me think TV, puzzle box and... TARDIS? Locked doors, hmmm.

    Yards is an American Unit of Measurement. Is there a reason Davies used the American over Metric?

    • @ActualGiles
      @ActualGiles 4 месяца назад +5

      Not American, British Imperial. Unlike the rest of Europe, we still use miles and yards on roadsigns for distance, etc. Interesting to note that 66.6 metres is ~73 yards..

    • @theoriesbyt
      @theoriesbyt  4 месяца назад +2

      The UK uses imperial measurements interchangeably, I presume he chose 73 Yards because 66.6metres was a bit on the nose 😈
