I’m decorating an apartment from scratch for mid-term rental. I’ve chosen mid-century modern because I grew up with it! The furniture won’t overwhelm a small space.
Our overstuffed living room couch and chairs are soooo comfortable, but now they are 25 years old and showing their age. I really need to replace them. Problem is, I don't want white or tan or grey (especially grey). Ever walk into a furniture store and not like everything there? They have nothing I want. Frustrating for sure.
Thought I wrote this comment 😂. I want color in a couch. Lived comfortably with a chili colored fabric couch for many years. To me, beige is not a neutral. Instead of a couch for our small tv room we’re considering two caramel colored faux leather recliners that are not old lady horsey chairs. Southwestern/boho. I love the colors she’s showing and I like the couch she’s sitting on.
@louannhuber2651 I recently installed a wallpaper mural I got from Wallism and think I'll pull colors from it to make my color choices. But, being the decorating coward I am, it's taking a while to think about it and get my courage up. I'm going to contact an upholstery company next.
@Newword-b1s I just checked with an upholser, and the price for the couch would be $1965 labor and 25 yards fabric. Good upholstery fabric prices start around $40. That just doesn't seem cost-effective. Did you do the upholstery yourself? I'm considering this.
Although the styles you are showing are popular,it still incorporates a great deal of beige neutrals. I have a kind of eclectic style, lots of dark, real antiques, a variety of greens on my walls, real art, touches of burgundy rose and red touches. Plants, odd but similar colored area rugs, and quite a few cats! Probably not stylish, but warm ,pretty and comfortable. So many designs look like hotel rooms!
Me too. I use beige as the neutral complement and bridge in all my color palettes. I don't really like white, so to me, beige is the perfect neutral. I am Eclectic Maximalist and this color helps balance my bold choices in color for the rest.
In my opinion, go with what you like. I personally do not do trends. I decorate, with what I like. And will not do the western thing. Don't be I've, that's going to be a big thing. But that's just me. Happy decorating
Great video! I like and agree with you on the 2025 trends. I'm incorporating earthy tones like dark greens, rust, burgandy, browns, tans, etc. I find that as long as I stay in the same color scheme everything seems to pull together. The colors that are bold (like bright and vivid colors) are harder to incorporate for me. Staying with earthy colors pulls the look together. I find that I can still use them, but I'm incorporating them carefully. Pillows and light fixtures are easier to replace than the costly items like doors, furniture, and expensive items for sure.
Also, pale colored wood looks cheap no matter what it costs. Dark wood furniture always looks expensive. And industrial anything, from lights or furniture does not belong in a cozy, welcoming home. Unless you love cardboard box tables. 😅
I love the western/cowboy vibe, but I live in the Southwest 😂. That said, as with any trend, it can be overdone. My go to with decorating has always been a neutral, earth-tone palette and adding accessories for the pop. It’s so easy to overdo it, quality over quantity 😅. Enjoyed your video. ❤
How about early relative lol my grandmother passed away and left her stuff to my mother. My mother, then later passed away and left both of their things to me. They are very valuable so I can’t just have a garage sale and purge the things that I’m not in love with, but I’m really getting tired of looking at it. How do you integrate the styles so you don’t have to throw everything out the door.
I'm sorry but switching from Boho to Japandi would never work to a person. It's like switching from maximalist to minimalist in an instant. Boho originated in Middle Eastern/Indian aesthetic and asking them to switch to Japandi is like asking someone who prefer Parisian interior to do American farmhouse. Those style are completely different. I suggest curated maximalism instead
I like modern farmhouse-- but minus the shiplap & barn doors. I suppose I am more French Modern Farmhouse, if that's a thing😊 But what would you call a Ranch house that incorporated that vibe?
Japandi has been around for quite some time now. It comes across to me as "minimalist" and not having any kind of warmth for "regular living"! Where is the personality in your own living room? Comes across as a first cousin to the sad beige style, there is nothing of "you" there at all! Looks like a hotel room sitting space!
Minimalism, Maximalism ,Boho, are more than Decor trends, they are lifestyles, and not going anywhere . any time soon. Maximalism is not even a true style, it is just a part of Eclectic and Boho, and Eclectic is a very old style than can apply to many other styles as well. Minimalism and Maximalism are just the ends of the spectrum, it describes amounts of things, not styles, so not even true , free standing styles. And by the way, Boho doesn't even have to have macrame, bamboo, wicker, plants rattan, all neutral colors only, to be called that. It is not random clutter either, same as Maximalism. And comparing Japandi to Boho is ludicrous. Totally different styles.

You could reupholster and replace the cushioning, even change shape a bit. I remade one chair almost completely, it wasn't hard and definitely cheaper

A house is to have fun n enjoy. l Never got into the minimalism style. I have a neat n place for almost everything to not have laying around.

Whenever I see extreme maximalism all I can think of is the horror of trying to keep it all dusted.
it is not that hard if you have a good filtration system among other things you can do.

Great advice!
If you like your style of decorating then do you and don’t worry about what others say to do.

that is just Southwest with Americana and Country elements, nothing new at all. Funny how the industry spin things to make them look like new.
designedbyai AI fixes this. Interior Design Styles to DITCH.

Research English country homes. Comfortable furniture, cozy rugs, pretty lamps, floral slipcovers, books, flowers, etc.

Exactly! Besides Boho is a lifestyle, not just a trend, and many people will have this decor style for life.
All was going amazingly well until the fake plant part🤦♀️Fake plants look beautiful only at the cemetery!😂
Nope, nope, nope. Western Cowboy is most definitely not a thing nor will it ever be a thing east of the Mississippi.
As a real ‘’cowgirl’’ it means home to me especially with our lifestyle it needs to be able to take a beating

Maybe doesn't need a name - called "it's my home,my style"😊
Maybe French inspired farmhouse! Your home - your style! Love it!
It is French Country, what you mean.

I was never a fan of extreme minimalism. Too stark, too cold.

Your LR looks really OUT.
Self taught, go legit. Information way off
I know right. This is bad, pretty amateurish.
