    Hey David thanks for posting your review on these almost 2 years ago. I am definitely getting either the Smallrig or the DJI twist grip version but I need your help. What do you think about briefcase mode now? Do you actually use briefcase mode or would you prefer just using the dual handle upside down? What are your thoughts?? Thanks in advance!

    • @djeffway
      @djeffway  Год назад +1

      Hey Nikko! To be honest, I have barely used briefcase mode. Prior to buying the RS2, I had a Zhyiyun Crane gimbal and almost always used it upside with a dual handle because I felt it was smoother that way. When I got the RS2, I was expecting to use it upside down most of the time too, since that was what I was used to. However, the way the RS2 is designed makes it nearly impossible to use upside down. One of the arms actually sits directly above and in front of the lens when you're upside down with it, and is oftentimes in your shot and inhibits you from panning up at all. But, I've adapted to using it right side up and have loved it, and actually prefer it now. So, to answer your question, I don't use briefcase mode, unless I was doing a really low-to-ground shot, and using it upside down doesn't really work. Hope that helps!

    • @djeffway
      @djeffway  3 года назад

      I try to use the furthest mount toward the end of the handle (away from the gimbal body). But I also have a SmallRig Articulating Arm with Dual Ball Heads that I usually mount to the side 1/4" thread and then attach my monitor to. It allows me to get a better viewing angle of my monitor and get the monitor away from the gimbal so they don't physically hit each other when I'm on the run.

  • @TaoCovillault

    Hey David, very informative video thank you ;)
    I would like to use a handle system but I usually prefer to have the handle coming upward from the rail towards the camera.
    I know that the DJI have only NATO rail on one side so they must be mounted upside down in this case, which doesn't seem to be a big problem for me.
    Except when switching to briefcase the handle will be facing in the wrong direction... But I can fix that with quick release systems ;)
    But what about the SmallRig, is it NATO on both side ?
    Thank you

    • @djeffway
      @djeffway  Год назад +1

      Hi Tao! I wish I had a better answer for you, but I sold the SmallRig handle because I just wasn't using it. I don't remember from when I had it. I did a little research and on the SmallRig handle description on Adorama, it says "The handgrip is designed with two-side NATO rails, which is not only horizontal adjustable, but also easy for detachment and support shooting in inverted mode." I assume this means there are NATO rails on both sides.

      Hi Phil. My thought is that it should work. I would just suggest attaching it to the port furthest from the gimbal toward the handle. If anything, you might need a small adapter to increase the length but I would certainly think a 5" should work just fine.

    I used the DJI twist grip. One thing that I am totally disappointed is that the knob ( that allows you to change from dual handle to underslung mode ) drop off easily and there is NO SPARE PARTS for this small knob.. Once you drop this knob, you won't be able to change the mode. And when I spoke to DJI, I can only purchase a new set and they quoted me a price that is $40 higher than their listed price stated on their website.

    • @djeffway
      @djeffway  3 года назад

      That should definitely be doable. Just use the furthest mount toward the end of the handle (away from the gimbal body). Being a 5" monitor as opposed to a 7" should make it easier, too. The only issue I have is if I pan too far the gimbal arm will sometimes hit the monitor, but the RSC2 arms aren't as long or bulky, so it should work better. Good luck!

      This product does not work well with the R SC2 because the twist knobs are too close up on the body making it impossible to tightening. Question from a newbie: I want to record stabalized video of my hiking trips. Some of my hiking trips are day trips and others are 1-2 week long trips. I might need two different solutions because I wouldnt want to carry a heavy chest/vest/arm contraption for one week in the back country but might tolerate it for a day hike but it is not ideal. I would like to reproduce hiking videos that are similar this youtube example ( ruclips.net/video/U1j-eO3-aR8/видео.html ) Do you think any of the Dual Handgrip solutions you reviewed in this video would be a good solution ? • @djeffway
      @djeffway  2 года назад

      Hey! Happy to help. The gimbal and dual grip definitely make it easier for longer shoots, but realistically I would not suggest using the gimbal (with or without the dualgrip) for a hiking trip of more than an hour or so. With the gimbal and a camera, you're looking at several lbs of gear and holding that in front of you gets tiring quick, nevermind hiking or navigating on what could be uneven terrain. It's a great setup but would be far too cumbersome for a hike in my opinion. Depending on the setup you have, I would honestly suggest using something like the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 Gimbal or something similar. You would connect your phone, and if you've got an iphone thats new in the past 3 years, you can likely shoot in 4k. The quality will still be great, and as long as you don't need super cinematic, shallow depth of field shots, the iphone on a gimbal would be a great, lightweight solution.

      @djeffway  2 года назад

      @@newlifeeveryday1821 Yes, I think you could get similar quality with one of the newer iPhones shooting in 4k.
