Awesome playthrough! Good job getting past 20. Would love to see your reactions to some of the later levels (especially to the obsidian tanks) On account of possibly giving more starting lives. I'll do it if I get enough feedback on that. However, I'd just like to say 2 things to that end. First, the mod is still new (Sep 9, 2021), and one big thing I wanted with this mod vs Wii Tanks Pro, is for it to be future-proofed. I know that as time goes on, people will get better at Tanks (me included). People will find the best ways to defeat all the different tank types. And it might take a few months, but I fully expect someone will be able to finally defeat this mod sometime in the future! *(Think SM64 - Blindfolded runs require an insane amount of skill in order to pull off. I doubt that people back in the early 2000's had that on their minds when trying to speedrun the game)* Second, think of this mod not just in terms of *'Complete 100 - Success | Not Complete 100 - Fail"*. The mod was designed to allow people who are amazing at the OG Wii Tanks (yourself included), to find out how far their skills can truly take them. So cherish each and every level you do get through! Many people I know find getting a few missions past their record on OG very rewarding. And frankly, getting past 20 on this is already an astonishing achievement. And while the grinding may be tiresome (trust me, I had rage moments as well with this mod), it does make you better in the end. Both at Master, and OG! Again, if I do get enough requests to change the starting lives, I'll definitely do it. But I hope that my reply here might've given the rest of you some food for thought before you request any changes :)
This is a very well written comment! And I definitely get what you are going for here. I too would like to fight the obsidian tanks and get to the end, but I know it will take a lot of grinding. I have other fun projects I’m working on so I don’t want to solely dedicate all my time to grinding this, so I will do it wee tanks style and give myself a savestate every 10th level. That way I can experience the rest of the mod and have fun with it without having to continuously play the beginning levels over and over. If you want to add more lives, it’s definitely not a bad idea, but even starting with 2 extra lives won’t make a big difference XD So that initial reaction of starting with 1 life might not be a bad idea to keep. Anyways, the actual mod itself is completely insanium which is what this mod was intended to be! I will be returning with the checkpoint based system to ‘beat’ the mod, so wish me luck with the obsidian tanks!
I think it'd be a good idea to give you a fair amount of lives so that the difficulty comes more from the enemy AI rather than how punishing the game is. Also the gold invisible tank is straight up just unfair and bad design, please consider reworking it.
Finally, I've been waiting for today. I'll look forward to the live broadcast, tooni! Listen carefully It was harder than I thought. Watch out for the Obsidian tank!
Excellent! Do you have any screenshots to show or anything? I over the past 7 months I have also been making my own Tanks game: a Bubble Tanks fangame! Just put out my first test build, and I'll show a little bit of it on one of my videos in the near future!
@@Tooni8282 It's still early in its development..... and it's also the very first game I've ever made. @@Void1734 [Tank Types] ----------------- Brown Tank -> Bronze Tank What was once the humble brown tank has now shed its wooden hull and replaced it with a much more durable and flashy exterior made from bronze. In isolation, the brown tank realized it needed more than just 1 bullet to provide any assistance to its friends. It has thus re equipped itself with 3 bullets that also go slightly faster than I'm used to. The bronze tank has also neglected to put extra effort into calculating shots as it has found better success with just aiming directly at enemies. Unfortunately for it, those extra 2 bullets, along with its heavier hull mean that the tank remains immobile. Just be sure to take a few extra shots on this guy, and you'll be fine! Grey Tank -> Silver Tank The grey tank often looked up to the purple tank as its mentor when it came to learning new skills. And to say that the now silver tank has learned quite a bit would be an understatement. After many years of practice, the silver tank has many upgrades under its hood, with 8 bullets to boot, increased maneuverability, and the ability to lay 1 mine. This silver tank can be quite deadly when taken for granted! It also dodges quite a bit more than grey tanks, which makes this tank much more annoying to deal with. Your best bet is to try and catch it in a situation where it can't escape from. You can also go head on, but if it starts shooting at you, you would be wise to retreat! Teal Tank -> Sapphire Tank This teal tank hybrid was one of the first tanks to armor itself not with a metal, but with a gemstone. Matching its color tone, the blue sapphire was the perfect candidate. But don't be fooled! While this tank might look beautiful as first, in this case, looks are most certainly deceiving. The best way to describe this tank would be to label it as a shotgun type. It shoots 3 bullets in rapid succession, mimicking the idea of a shotgun. In close quarters, it can essentially continually fire at you. It also lays 1 mine for some reason. Best practice is to try and get them with some wall bounces. It takes a bit of practice, but it can be done. You can also outfire them at close range if you prefer. But this is often slow, dangerous, and not always guaranteed to work. Red/Pink Tank -> Ruby Tank The red/pink tank decided to negate work on its speed, maneuverability, and mine laying abilities, instead focusing solely on its bullets. The now ruby tank is a bullet spammer, and a ferocious one at that! While it ended up sacrificing its wall bounce abilities, it was rewarded with a total of 10 bullets rather than 3. It's hyper-aggressive nature still remains. Meaning it will often come right at you. And with its 10 bullets, when one of these fires at you, it would be wise for you to run away from it. Trust me, you will not out-spam it! You can try to kill it with some wall bounces as you would with the sapphire tank. But best practice is to actually kill it with a mine. They won't avoid them! I'll leave it up to you to decide how to lay the mine in conjunction with the ruby tank's position. Yellow Tank -> Citrine Tank Known for its mine laying capabilities, the yellow tank decided to merge its typical tactics with that of the black tank. Layered in citrine, the citrine tank is now an amalgamation of both the yellow and the black tank. Some might consider this tank to be more black with its 3 fast bullets, insane shot calculations, and incredible speeds! However, the 4 mines it can lay still shows that there is still very much some yellow in this tank. Due to its high speed and hyper-aggressiveness, this tank will often come at you. And it'll be hard to calculate a proper shot that will hit them! Your best bet is to create a wall of bullets and hope that they will run into it. Their high speed means low amounts of dodging. Always be very careful with these guys! I can't tell you how many times I've died because of them! Purple Tank -> Amethyst Tank Originally, the purple tank was mainly designed to be a well-rounded unit. However, as the other tanks developed in each of their respective traits, this essentially forced the purple tank to do one thing and only one thing right... to be the most annoying tank in the world! The purple dropped practice for all its other features, and instead read books on how to become the best ninja samurai ever! It's bullet count remains unchanged (5), and while it did gain one extra mine, it doesn't often use all 3 enough to make it worth it. But what the amethyst tank does do is dodge absolutely everything! If your aim and bullet spread is not perfect, they will find a way to escape! This often makes amethyst tanks the longest living of the other tanks as their dodging is so great, you could swear they dodge death at every opportunity! In order to eliminate these tanks, you'll need to get close to them, then fire a bullet at them every half a second, trapping them until they eventually run out of room. It might seem scary getting so close to an enemy tank, but don't fret! For if they are trying to run away from you, they often won't shoot back, making it easy to trap them in a corner. Green Tank -> Emerald Tank While many expect the titan of the green tanks to have insane upgrades such as better shot calculations, being able to move, or having their bullets ricochet more, I am here to say that the base design of the emerald tank is hardly noteworthy in regards to any differences vs the green. Mainly because (like dragonflies) the green tanks original design is already perfect! And with many considering green tanks to be the hardest tank of the original 'Wii Tanks', it's not like the emerald tank needed to change much to still be scary. That's not to say that it doesn't have any new tricks up its sleeve though. Not only are the emerald tank's bullets faster, but it also has one extra bullet vs the green, and also learned how to turn itself invisible! This might make them appear even more impossible to deal with, but if you've learned to calculate green tanks shots well, you shouldn't find these tanks too bad. Do be warned however that their added bullet speed means that your calculating skills better be on point! White Tank -> Gold Tank Ah yes, the invisible one. White tanks's invisiblity was one of its most unique aspects in the original 'Wii Tanks'. But it never seemed to make them any more threating. While there were instances where not paying enough attention could lead to one jumping you, their ostentatiously large treads made them quite easy to spot, even when invisible. Realizing this flaw, the gold tank did everything it could to try and remove its biggest issue. It gave up speed, bullets, and maneuverability. And in the end, it succeeded! Now, the gold tank can turn fully invisible, treads 'n' all! This makes them especially more threatening. As there's no way to tell where they are unless they lay a mine or shoot a bullet. Both of which can possibly lead to your demise! Keeping track of your gold tanks will be important when you're faced with a mission that has one. Also be sure to shoot a few bullets before turning a corner. And when you do know where they are, try to eliminate them as fast as possible! The last thing you'll want is to be destroyed by a tank that rolled right up behind you while you were dealing with something else. Black Tank -> Obsidian Tank The last tank, the obsidian tank! The obsidian tank's story is a bit of a redemption arc so to say. After finding out that many consider the green tank to be harder than the black one, one lone black tank decided that it would do everything it could to prove that black tanks were indeed the king of all tanks! Thus began a ruthless training process. The black tank trained for many hours, days, months, and even years to get to where it is now. And the obsidian tank is the result of this! With 3 insanely fast two-ricochet bullets, a mammoth degree of speed, and their supercomputer levels of shot calculating, it has been rumored that new obsidian tanks are born from the magma of the earth, as they are so monstrously overpowered, that they could only have been designed by the devil himself! The only upside is that they don't dodge as much as black tanks do. But that's not much to work with here. You'll want to kill them with indirect shots. And whatever you do, DO NOT LET THEM GET IN DIRECT SIGHT OF YOU!! Because if they do, you are basically already dead! -----------------
