- "Streamer Fishing for Trophy Trout" is based on Kelly Galloup's book of the same title, which is widely recognized as one of the most innovative publication on streamer fly fishing in decades. Using big flies to hunt big trout is nothing new but Kelly has taken it to another level. Years of observation above and below water studying the habits of these predators has resulted in tactics and specialized gear and flies that can hook you up with the biggest trout in the rivers you fish.
Kelly will explain his "Predator Theory" which he believes holds the key to when, where, and how we should fish for trophy trout. It won't be surprising to discover when Kelly thinks the best time to target big fish is, but where he hunts them is game changing. Thus there a numerous chapters devoted to identifying different water types that hold big fish, each including the specific approach and presentation required.
As unique as Kelly's read on where to find trophy trout is his presentation of a streamer fly to the water he deems productive. His "Jerk Strip" retrieve is a far cry from the traditional down stream swing method, and he will go into detail on how and why he employs it. Along with this he will break down the type of leaders, lines, rods, and flies he uses to hunt for big fish.
Along with discovering Kelly's style of fishing trophy trout you will get a close up look at the innovative fly patterns he has created specifically for his technique. They are big and and varied in color and style, but have proven highly effective. He goes over how and why he selects his offering depending upon what natural prey his trying to emulate, the water type, and weather conditions. Since this production was done Kelly has taken his streamer patterns to the next level and creating a number of articulated flies that have been proven effective. They can be found in the collection of the fly tying videos offered by Fly Fish TV .
This is not a new video and it is not a short one. It was produced fifteen years ago, at the time of this posting, and is nearly two hours in length. It is as well not fancy or particularly exciting one, but it is filled with information and instruction that, given some study, might just make you a better trophy trout hunter.
The complete video is available at FlyFishTV.com to stream, download or in DVD form.
Love this. After having listened to kelly talk about this 30 times its nice to see it implemented . He has a good series on his channel currently as well
Thanks for making this and thanks for posting. Today is 12/29. I have zero interest in euro whatever. I throw streamers of all types as my constant go to everywhere. This helped me tweak my current skills to catch even more trout today (winter )than ever before !
Absolute legend, great vid.
Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed this I use to live in Billings now I live in Washington State
This is awesome
The pattern Kelly describes for big fish timing for browns seems to fit the behavior for larger landlocked salmon on the West Branch of the Penobscot River in Maine.
Great understanding shared
What a gem!
You’re the best Kelly!
All casts….Single/Two Handed…Overhead…Sustained Anchor….Touch & Go….whatever you’re doing are the same…..Sustained or Increasing Tension into the “Firing Position”…….These are not “Circus Casts”……If you’re willing to waste a whole lot of time having fun becoming this good…. you can fish anywhere……Great vid Paul!!… How about doing one on your theory of the “Stop” or “Don’t Stop”……..😂 Regards Dave
sure
Lost my dvds thanks so much for this!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Enjoy! Thanks for buying the DVD
Great video... Are you targeting browns, or will these techniques work as effectively on rainbows as well?
Both!
At 37:00 the "hatch is on"..........
Excellent!
Many thanks!
Will this work on bluegill ?
Perhaps extremely large ones.
I’ve caught a many browns 4-5 jerkbaits and few had 8-12” rainbows in there mouth they are that aggressive
If none of that works, i go to dynamite.😂
Great great info
Glad it was helpful!
Is it better to work upstream while wading?
I have seen a lot of trout caught fishing up Up, Across, & Down .
This varies by pool to pool and river to river. But in general, upstream works best for rivers sideways best for large. You want your fly or lure to move with or across a stream.
What year did you guys film this?
2009
Nice brown Kelly put that picture on the fridge
Filmed a long time ago
Great video
Would these tactics and techniques work for Great Lakes steelhead in the fall?
Look at Spring Fishing for Steelhead with Kelly Galloup Video for Steelhead Tactics for Great Lakes Steelhead
@@FLYFISHTV
I saw that video and it didn’t help much.
I don’t swing for them. There was very little on nymph/egg pattern technique. And nothing on cast retrieve streamer fishing for steelhead.
Thanks and tight lines
Wake me up when the hatch comes off.😴
So if you're stripping and jerking you are in the perfect position for hooking?
PLEASEEEEEE
Looks like the Bighorn River in Wyoming. Canyon section. Big trout are hunters. They may feed on a pod of tiny bugs from time to time but when it comes to real feeding they eat big things. They also hunt more at night than during the day.
Madison. they say it several times
agreed
portions in video from a number of rivers. Madison, Wind(Big Horn), South Fork of the Snake
@@ktvlm3987 I've fished all of those places for decades. The Bighorn canyon is unmistakable for anyone that has fished there
Never understand the slamming and banging in the background. 'd rather hear you and the river.
I'm reporting this for adult content.
😂Absolutely.
Yeah, this beyobd soaking dough and worms.
I just came
@@Piscatorialveteran😂😂😂
Get a life
Its called the EMOVABLE ELBOW MOVING LINE .
Sure
My trout are 5 pounds as well when I don’t weigh them.
If you're going to fish that way why not just spin fish? GaIIoup's methods are inefficient. BTW I Iike KeIIy. He seems Iike a good guy.
If you’ll listen….
No it didn’t
Adult content??
Whar river is that? My kind of water
Madison
I guess because he said it was the Madison, I'm gonna go with Madison.
Quick question are we using the camcorder we got in 1997 to film this by chance? Lol
It was standard definition camera in the day when there weren't HD cameras
My favorite fly is a olive Camel toe Connie
By the looks of those shorts I would say yes😂
