How YouTube & Social Media Have RUINED Football

- Following Juventus and Barcelona getting knocked out of the Champions League last week, social media was full of Messi and Ronaldo partisans bleating about how it proved that one was better than the other.
The obsessive debates between those two is just one of the ways in which social media and RUclips have soured the game of football, and it got me thinking of all the other ills of modern media on Wednesday night.
So in this video, HITC Sevens takes a look at how RUclips & social media have polarised us, force fed us outrage, and stripped the fun out of football / soccer.
Had social media existed back in the day, sir alex would have been sacked two years into his job.
There was something called the printed press, which had serious weight back then. He was almost sacked but infamously saved by a Mark Robbins goal (FA Cup I think, which led to them winning it, which led to them winning the Cup Winners Cup)
@@TheMixCurator And I still irrationally hate Mark Robbins for that goal too
True. In the Prem currently for example there are only about two or three clubs who won’t sack their manager for the slightest hint of a bad run of form: Burnley and Liverpool (and maybe Wolves)
@@AS19Motorsport burnley would make the worst choice of their lives, wolves would probably get relegated, and liverpool has too good of a manager to sack
@@TheMixCurator Yeah, Robins' goal came against Nottingham Forest in 1990, they went on to beat Palace in the Cup Final, won the Cup Winners Cup and Super Cup in 1991...
And once 1992/93 kicked off the brakes were off for the success they enjoyed for the next 20 years
I swear to God, if I see the word "Pessi" or "Penaldo" again I will go insane. Football twitter is literally just a competition of who can be the most toxic
Or Uefalona or real uefadrid. They're insufferable
@13 champions league Chelshit, Var utd (its true tho👀), bayern farmersliga.....

@@nleak92 Uefadrid LiVARpool and penandes are the only true ones
Or calling any league "Farmers League" and acting like the Championship is the 2nd best league in the world
What I’ve noticed is that on Twitter in particular, the posts that get the most attention are almost always the hot takes, false statistics, made up quotes and copypastas. The accounts that do really good analysis work and in depth articles on interesting topics get nowhere near the same numbers as made up transfer rumours about Messi and Zlatan “quotes”. Football is sadly becoming more and more about marketing and entertainment and social media is the main vehicle for that change
agreed
Twitter in general is so bad
Hi! In many respects, I think football has always been about entertainment, due to the increasing attention it gained throughout the decades, but I understand what you're saying.
I'm a sort of a radical about social networks: I made the choice to stay out of the main channels, at least, knowing I wouldn't be able to handle them so easily.
Ironically, I ended up having quite the same problem with RUclips, but luckily it has consisted in wasting time on music-based content... 😅
Personally, I disagree with Alfie on the impossibility to see positivity and knowledge prevail on outrage and ignorance: every single word leaves its trace, that's true, but Internet (just like time) is such an enormous sea, and only the best-equipped "ships" can navigate through it.
The same goes, in this case, for football content: while it's strange (to say the least) to see the success of platforms that seek for clickbait, I think those who are more keen on elegance and care (this channel itself, or even something like Tifo Football or COPA90, to stay in the UK) still have got the winning formula. Why? Well, because they love what it's interesting and set to last, not what it's trending and set to disappear.
Sorry if I went too far from the main point of the discussion or if I was somewhat unintelligible, but I hope it's useful! 😅😉
Twitter is one of the most terminal cancers on the internet that is still growing.
Social media ruined the world not just football
Agreed I mean just LOOK at the state of politics. Controversial as it is already, social media made it a trillion times worse by allowing any idiot to sprout what they want
Social media has a lot of pros but so many more cons
Social media = left wing nazis 😂
in 2015 an italian writer (Umberto Eco) said that "internet will give the chance for every idiot to express his opinion", and this is maybe the best thing I've heard from someone about Internet.
It annoys me when people say this. It's not like bad opinions didn't exist before social media, it's just that now we're able to see them and, more importantly, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEM.
Stopped using Twitter a year ago, my life is much happier and more peaceful without it. Would recommend the same to everyone who doesn't want to give a shit and live their life in a carefree non toxic manner.
Stopped using Facebook 3 years ago, Twitter is also garbage, I got banned again today for calling Cardi a whore under her tweet calling other women bitches.

@Abhirup Nath Literally we are watching RUclips now, we just have to be away of toxic communities
With my own team, it feels like social mediais very reactionary. While thats just one thing, among the disgusting racism. But after a game it always feels like a drain. It seems people have a memory of a week. It makes it hard to interact my community, because one game they would win the UCL, the next they are below mid table. Also the CR7 v Messi debate, has gotten so weird now on social media, it was weird 8 years ago, but its just dominating the debate.
Even on posts not even about either one of them it's just full of it

Give it a few years and the Mbappe v Haaland debate will be just as weird if not weirder...
Everyone on Instagram is like: pEnAnDeS
I feel that it’s those that are doing the best that will be constantly criticised for having one bad game, or even for having a good one but scored a penalty like in your ‘pEnAnDeS’ example. People don’t like seeing players from other clubs doing well so they’ll be quiet when Fernandes has many MOTM performances but if he struggles in one game they will say he is shit and overrated. I mainly used Instagram to view the artworks of various young and upcoming illustrators and other artists before they moved back to either DeviantArt or Twitter (sometimes they moved to both).
I think another big problem is those people who support clubs like Man UTD, Man City or Arsenal, when they have absolutely no connection to the place itself and neglecting the clubs they actually have connections with
I would argue that is not a problem actually, it is the reason to pick them as a fad. One friend I have from Guatemala is a Milan fan, and he is súper insightful, Really knowledgeable and Smart about it. The difference is that he loves the club and what it representa, but he doesn’t fanboys or ídolizes the shit out of anybody there or is Interested to make unsustainable noise. There are people from smaller countries that have affection to europeas and big clubs, and I consider it Really healthy
@@javiermoreno5898 but I’m mostly speaking on a financial and social aspect. The more people who support these big clubs, the greater the difference in things like matchday revenue and merchandise sales, meaning quite often smaller clubs can’t be sustainable and struggle financially like Bury recently or Gretna and all these teams who’ve gone extinct, if people actually support and follow the teams they have connections with, they are less likely to fall to this. Also it can help reduce the financial inequality and hopefully make the smaller teams more competitive and potentially we could have more underdog stories. Fewer and fewer people are supporting smaller clubs now with all this technology and it’s killing them especially in a COVID climate
@@NO-ts5yt On that front and perspective I completely agree with you, I sometimes commit that sin too, but I have tried to engage more with my national league and school/local soccer competitions (Come from a pretty small country) because they need much more support than the big clubs, I don't know which club you support but I hope your club is surviving and having good results, but it is really important to be sensitive in football because you can't say you love football if you only watch the big boys and do nothing about your local teams or even community or school district events (If you have the time to), especially during COVID days. On that front, you are completely right

Using "Farmers League" and "small club" as an insult just shows what type of fans these people are. I obviously have nothing against their real fans who supported them before that or are from that area but I don't think anyone of them are writing these comments. It's even more ridiculous when they write "small club" under a Barcelona or Bayern post just to be trolling.
In Football Twitter, it feels like they don't even like football, hell, they don't even watch football. They just follow a team and go with their """"agendas""""

Thanks again for addressing my comment, I hope I didn't say something offensive, that is not my intention
Really enjoyed this video and your opinion, Alfie. While I agree that social media gives people the confidence to air opinions that they would not do so to someone in person. I still think channels like AFTV, Redmen TV, Anfield Agenda, United Stand, Stratford Paddock etc, while they can amplify outrageous reactions of certain fans, they do allow the fans that engage to say their opinions that they would usually say to their friends. In the context of football I think that still has value.
Furthermore if you believe in the Jeffersonian marketplace of ideas, then these channels provide good sunlight to give the average viewer a chance to weed out the good ideas from the bad.
