  • Join us as we head out on our backpacking trip on the Two Lakes Loop Trail in southern Indiana in the heart of the Hoosier National Forest. We are again testing our gear and trying to get some miles in before our big trip to Philmont Scout Ranch In New Mexico. Backpacking this 15-mile loop in the southern section of the Hoosier National Forest has a little bit of vertical gain to push us and the weather was mostly pleasant, at least for most of Saturday. It is a nice trail that allows for backcountry camping as well. I look forward to visiting again.
This 15.7-mile trail is designated a National Recreation Trail. The shaded complex of loop trails includes scenic hardwood forest and beautiful views of Indian and Celina Lakes. The main trail is marked in white, with spur trails marked in orange to offer short, day hikes. Much of this trail is on steep slopes and could take 4-5 hours to hike half the distance. Along the trail's routes, wildlife openings are maintained where deer, turkey, quail, and songbirds are commonly seen. One of the Hoosier's watchable wildlife areas are along this trail.

I thought it was a good trail. Not super difficult and it had some wonderful views. It can get a bit overgrown near the lakes so don't forget to treat your shoes, socks, shorts or pants! Did you?

Nice shakedown hike Andy. I sure won't be close to your pack weight. I'm starting on the A.T. in February of next year, so I'll be carrying heavier clothes, more food etc. I subscribed and will be looking forward to more videos. I also will be v-logging my journey. I have about 10 hiking related videos out now. More gear videos very soon.

Haven’t hiked this place YET! Thanks for the preview! Seems like everybody camps on the other side of the second lake ..... is it just because it’s about halfway , or because that is the only approved backcountry area? Thanks for sharing ! Hope to bump into you on the trail sometime!!

I believe you can camp anywhere as it is part of the national forest, but I think most of the established sites are on the backside of the loop... So that is where most end up camping...
