I bought two NEX-F3s at Best Buy years (and years) ago on a closeout sale for like $175 each (with lens). Still have them. The flip screen is nicer than my Sony NEX-5Ns that I have.
Can not tell you how much I appreciate your videos. You really found your niche while staying straight to the point. Great resource. Sadly however, I find that RUclips does not show me any of your other videos which even includes gear-related videos like the latest on the RGB. Hope that will change, want to support everything after all without the extra hustle of regularly having to check your account for new, unrecommended videos. Cheers
Thanks for the love! Yeah I have noticed that most of my subscribers only get recommended Sony camera content (which is why I try to do more of that), and don't see a lot of my other stuff. Hopefully that changes overtime. We will keep grinding though! Thanks again for the comment.
I use this as secondary camera to my a6000. The photos are great. The video performance are just okay but for the price around 80$, i still consider it as a good option since it can record for 20 minutes. It's weird that i find it hard to find a review for this camera, so thank you👍
I never miss one of these Nex series videos anymore, such a joy to watch every time. Most people just don't realize how good photos can be made using equipment that's 20 times cheaper than the newest full frame mirrorless. And by the way, I completely dig your opinion about that "iPhone vs real camera" debate: there's always something in photos taken with these old APS C sensors which I cannot really describe, but that gives them a more natural, pleasant and "genuine" look. I cannot find the same feeling looking at the photos taken even with the latest and greatest Cupertino phone. Maybe it's just my personal view, but for me it's just like that. :)
Thanks for watching! I agree, these cameras just provide something solid that a phone can't do. Plus you can change lenses to achieve all sorts of creative styles.
Hi there! I edit my photos in Lightroom with custom built presets that I will be selling soon on my website! Going to be launching a brand new site in January!!
I've been rocking mine since september of 2012, still takes really nice photos! My scroll wheel doesn't work anymore so can't shoot manually. Maybe it's time for an upgrade
You should pick up the Sony 11mm f1.8 to test on these NEX bodies. Honestly believe you could produce a whole channel (& other content) with that setup.
The Sony pancakes (16/20mm 2.8) would make for an even more compact setup. I like to use the 20 on my a7R3 for a super compact setup with the advantages (ergonomic and otherwise) of a full-frame body
5:19 No sir, you can customize the wheel buttons to use as a ISO shortcut. In my case I set the right button in the wheel to use as ISO shortcut button.
I had the 5 and it blew me away. I used it professionally for video and stills. I ended up sellling it to get the then-new Omd-em5 because I needed a viewfinder. It was great, but the images and speed never impressed me like that Sony.
I’ve heard that you can do this with a firmware update, but most of the drivers that run the updates aren’t supported by newer MacOS systems. So I can’t update the firmware currently.
Hello, thank you very much for the video. I want to switch from analog to digital and have many vintage lenses. I can create a budget, but I want to see how it's going first. Do you recommend the nex series along with vintage lenses or have you had the chance to try it?
I'm pretty sure the mount of all those aps-c Sonys take the same lenses. They'll fit mount of the full frame cams too, but with a crop on the lenses intended for aps-c.
Kraig im rocking the a5100 with a 35 1.4 manual lens thanks to you. Can you tell me what should he my next lens? I like portrait photos and i want to make videos for social media marketing.
I would snag a 24-70mm lens which will cover most of your bases. That, or a 16-50mm lens because you’re on a crop sensor. Since you already have a good prime, I’d go with a quality zoom and you’ll be set for shooting all sorts of content.
Hi!! I have a Sony Nex F3 and would like to upgrade it. I use the lens that originally came from it, I would like one with more zoom and more "quality" so to speak... Would you, or those of you in the comments, have any tips on which lenses to buy? If an adapter would be needed, etc.. I live in Brazil, and here it is a little difficult to easily find this equipment.. Thank you in advance, I loved the video!
Thanks for the comment. If you could find a Sony 24-105 f/4 G that would be an outstanding option. Other options would be a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. Or a Sony 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. All of these would be better than the standard kit lens of the F3 👍
What settings do you use for the nex F3? I have the same camera and my footage is nowhere near that good😩 I have been using it on intelligent auto. Lol
Hey Kraig! I have the Nex-5 and I want that newer 16MP with the 5N. Would you recommend the 5N over the F3? Are both of them a big jump from the 5? Thanks:)
Crazy fact, but I owned the 5N and the NEX-6 (never the 7). I shot the F3 every now and then (had someone to borrow it from for a day at a time). Either I am going crazy, or the F3 has more creamy colours and especially skintones. the 5N adds the great FN button for quick setting changes (flash, WB, etc), but I would very well appreciate an F3 as of 2024. Will reply back when I have more cameras for a side-by-side comparison in terms of real life, not charts.
Sony series is great, but I have to say the difference between the NEX c3, f3 and 3N is negligible and almost as if they didn’t know what to decide on for the release of the products
I bought this camera used and I believe you can't set up custom dials without a firmware update. I will dig into this ASAP. The firmware updates are supported on newer MacOS and I don't have access to a PC at the moment.
5:22 you can manually go into setup > custom key settings > right key setting and choose ISO like other Sony cameras.

Totally considering buying one second hand to get started, thanks for the review it was super informative fr 👌🏽

I bought this camera ( Kit Lens and Charger) for around 100-120$ on 2022. And its really good camera for that price...
Those Nex Cameras are really interesting. How do you edit your photos? What style do you want to archive? Good video, im excited for the next one 😊👍🏻

@@kraigpruett Ok, thx for the reply. Are you going more towards a film or retro look?

Tenho uma f3 e está me servindo bem 🎉🎉

I will see if I can get my hands on one! I have always wanted to try out that lens.

you can key map the functions, i usually have my iso on the bottom button ❤❤
I didn't see a way to do it without a firmware update!

Amen. All of these NEX cameras really are underrated. Love the NEX-5 for photos.
You can assign ISO to the 4 way pad. Usually Nex users put it on the right side button.
I’ve heard that you can do this with a firmware update, but most of the drivers that run the updates aren’t supported by newer MacOS systems. So I can’t update the firmware currently.
This is how I use my nex f3 and is really comfortable with this configuration. And yes, mine is updated and bought it this way.
F3 has a flash!!

Would you say around 130€ is a good Price for getting it Almost new Used?
I like your videos, how you can upscaled the video from F3 to be 4K?
I simply scaled the 1080p video up in premiere by 200% to fill the 4K timeline I was working in.
Zeiss 35mm 2.8 is amazing on any APS or FF Sony camera.
That is most beautiful Sony apcs camera design, Sony ever made period !
Really love the design of this too
i was thinking using this camera as an backup can this camera works on a sigma lens ?
Yes this will work on a Sigma E Mount lens!
Kraig, since you have so much experience with the difference NEX cameras, which one is actually the smallest and lightest of them all?
Sony NEX-C3. But it’s also one of my least favorite NEX cameras.
Bro can u provide link to buy the camera?
eBay.
Do any of the nex cameras with flip up screens support external mics?
Is the TTArtisan lens featured here compatible with the NEX-5T?
I'm pretty sure the mount of all those aps-c Sonys take the same lenses. They'll fit mount of the full frame cams too, but with a crop on the lenses intended for aps-c.
Yes it is. It will work great with the 5T. It will work with all Sony APS-C size cameras, and full frame cameras that shoot in crop mode.
Yes, that is correct. This is just a standard Sony E Mount.

THank you@@kraigpruett. I was actually just thinking and contemplating the zoom lens and you just validated my thoughts. Appreciate the reply.
Is there any way to use this camera as a webcam?
the f3 is a boss

Bought one with optional evf
Love it.
Do you think the autofocus would work better with NEX 5N?
Yeah I bet so… I’ll run some tests.
What lens was that 3:03
TTArtisan 27mm f2.8 af
@@kraigpruett thank you I’ll subscribe
Which would you recommend between the Sony NEX-F3 or the Sony a5000?
i think NEX-F3 better than a5000. nex-f3's LCD qulity better than a5000
Which camera should i buy? Nex 5 R or Nikon d3100
For sure the NEX 5R. One of my favorite affordable cameras from Sony
Olá.
Essa TT Artsans é foco automático (AF) ou só manual?
This lens has autofocus!
Sony series is great, but I have to say the difference between the NEX c3, f3 and 3N is negligible and almost as if they didn’t know what to decide on for the release of the products
Yeah I think as far as image quality they are negligible, but I think there are some significant differences in design and functionality.
You can set custom button, you should read the manual first

Check the Sony a3000, the worst of both(mirrorless and dslr) worlds
