In 1986-1987 I did van life right out of high school. Spent 15 months circling the country with my high school sweetheart. I still miss sleeping to the sound of rain on my metal roof. Your video took me right back to my adventures in the White Mountains. Now I'm 56 and thinking about another road trip...off road. I want to see polar bears in the wild and the Aurora Borealis.

I hear you, Chris, but to be loved, and to love someone back, I think, is one of the most beautiful sides of life. Yes, the van life might be nice for a while, and a dog is faithful and all, but a true soul mate is the real deal. Nothing else will bring you the true feeling of being loved by someone, with the same love, interest and warmth as the human touch. It cannot be replaced.

It's just pathetic. People watch and donate to other people who then live the life that people themselves want to live. It's just crazy where we ended up. The world is slowly but surely coming to an end and we are watching a person gambling in his dirty van in nature. Just ridiculous. Instead of doing something and helping the world, there are only selfish people everywhere.

I love COZY times in the forest. Don't worry about when life happens. No matter what, plans never go as planned. So worrying about planning it almost makes it worse. You have plenty of time to have kids, a family, land to take care of. It is alot to be around someone, even someone you love 24/7. Keep making fun Cozy times.

as a 36 year old man who wishes he'd have had some experience living the van life i tell you, keep doing this! don't stop and never give up.
I really like this van layout, especially the computer desk and the table up front. Having 2 work/play/eating/siting/relaxing spaces makes for a much more functional van that can easily accommodate 2 people inside on those rainy days. I'm planning to retire into full time vanlife in a few years and seeing all these different van builds on youtube is really helping me refine my own design concept. This is the life for anyone who doesn't want to be surrounded by bs all the time. Awesome video!
how do people build their vans? do you have to do it yourself?
@@iSoundpro I'm still undecided on that, but I'm leaning toward letting a professional upfitter do it. Many people do build their own vans, but most people hire a professional. Of course, a professional build costs a lot more, but if you don't have the skills to DIY, that's the way to go.
It's the definition of having everything you need.
@@iSoundpro people will often choose the long wheelbase tall roof work vans that are out there, with the Mercedes Sprinter being one of the go-to models. Retired vans from corporate fleets are often a nice "cheap" way to get into owning a van (cheap in quotation marks but these models are high mileage and very used, so they need some fixing before they're good to go for building a camper van). A bus conversion could also work, but these could and probably will get iffy. Other solutions are trailers hooked up to a towing vehicle (such as a truck or an SUV), a pickup truck camper conversion (these are hella cool too), or straight up buying an RV (winnebago or similar).
The perks of having a camper van is the stealth and how comparably easier and cheaper they're to set up, but you have very reduced space and it's a somewhat clunky format to live in, quite cramped.
As to how to build them? You strip them down, clean them, and start by insulating all surfaces on your living space, and making some framing for the wall construction. Once you have those basics set up, then it's about electricity (depending on if you need to have your living space fully powered, batteries, solar or gas power, etc), plumbing (if you're going to live in it, as opposed to having the van as a recreational vehicle, then you need the proper stuff, water tanks and all), and then furnishing.
Old timey RVs did more than enough with storage space, a sink, an eating space, and a bed, so there's that.

I just discovered you (two months ago) with the haunted vids that you put out, and at first was like, I give you mad props for being in those places and to add, overnight! Van life is great, but having kids is an amazing experience. Nobody ever regrets having kids, its such a wholesome experience. Plus, you can get another van for the family and still make videos of it.

Aww i mean to disrespect but the best parts of your video is Milly (or Millie) being such a good dog i have a dog myself named Charlie (mixed breed with cocker spaniel golden retriever and poodle also known as a golden doodle) and he's such a sweetheart and looking at your dog makes me miss my dog since Charlie lives with my mom and i miss him daily (he is currently 5 years old)

Loved the video! Quick advisory: Make sure to check for ticks regularly when in the forest or high grass! For both yourself and Millie. I used to live in Maine and contracted Lyme disease that way - took me many years to recover; not something I would recommend.

Hey man, just wanted to leave some encouragement.
I'm 30, have a wife, an apartment, no debt, and currently unemployed. We are managing life a lot better than many in our generation, don't have too much to complain about, but I can definitely empathize with some of the directionless feelings you mentioned. Whatever specifically may get you down from time to time, remember this:
The freedom and comfort you've managed to carve out for yourself and your pupper is a rarity that many would give the majority of what's in their lives to have. I for one, definitely wouldn't give up my wife, but I'd trade everything we have to give her what you have built for yourself. Enjoy the peace around you. Cherish it. Spread it around if you can. Best of luck to you, and I genuinely hope for your safety and prosperity for years to come.
Edit: Also, I would highly recommend a headset for your gaming setup. Much clearer quality to fully immerse yourself in the game, doesn't take too much space, several good options for relatively cheap (I currently use HyperX), and allows for complete noise stealth in case you are in a more public space or have a partner wanting to sleep 3ft away.

Man, your rig looks amazing. I've always wanted to do vanlife but having a business and hobbies that wouldn't fit inside of a van have slowly tied me down. Fortunately, I think I have found a happy medium by owning a house on the outskirts of my hometown, close to nature, but not too far from the city. And I'm able to take about a month off work each year to do motorcycle trips and live off my bike. The chaotic nature of these bike trips paired with the stability of having a home base and somewhere safe to come back to is my happy medium. Goodluck with your journey through life, I think you are on a great path & lifestyle.

Most bear attacks are only when the bear is being defensive like protecting their home or cubs. Bears dont go out of their way to cause trouble unless they are starving. Im more worried about when he sets his spacelink satelite on his van in the middle of a street hahaha.

Fun fact: your "weird meal" 28:19 is actually Brazils most common type of food: rice and black beans (actually, beans overall. The type of beans varies according to the region you're on. Here in Rio black beans are more common. That's why you see it in Feijoada). You add some protein, veggies like you did and bang. Rice, black beans, lettuce, tomato and chicken breast is probably the most common day to day meal in Brazil no lie. If anyone got the chance, I highly recommend it.

I love these vanlife vlogs! as a "soon to be vanlifer" i love watching Trent's videos of average days like this and I can imagine it for myself. Trent's van was my inspiration for my vanbuild. Less than a month and i'll be full time living in the Promaster! Trent, have you had any major mechanical issues with your van? and how many miles have you put on it since 2020?

I am just a random commentor for you, yet I would like to tell you right now just enjoy the freedom, solitude and vanlife exploration. You will know when its time to settle down and start a family if that is what your heart calls for.
This looks awesome and you could probably have a average full time job and make this work! Seems a lot less stressful! Can't wait until they get starlink to bypass the light clouds/storms, once that happens I might have to get a van setup like this!
