You produce nice work so you must be doing things right. I can see for sure you choose good paint products so that's not a question for me. What I want to know is your process and timing. In this video you primed and laid a base color all in one step. Would priming, off-gassing for 2 days and then wet sanding the priming coat, cleaning, drying and then applying a top coat be better or worse or same and why? How long did you wait to apply the gloss/matt clear coats? It's obvious you didn't do the base/clear in one step since you wet sanded the base coat. Thanks for the great video and your time in putting it together and sharing it.
Glad I've found your channel. I just want to paint EVERYTHING after watching your videos 🤣🤣 cant wait to paint my first frame

In this video you recommend wet-on-wet spray painting, but in another you recommend waiting for the primer to dry, sanding it with 800 grit paper, then applying a second and final layer of primer. As far as I can tell, one method saves time, while the other saves spray cans. Is there anything more to it or am I overthinking all this? Eager to try and apply everything I've learned from your videos soon, when I get my steel frame sanded :)
Well done videos man.!!! You are awesome. I am wanting to do my wheels and spokes matte black. In your opinion what paint would give the best matte finish?
Great job! Should I wet sand and buff after I spray the color? I finally got a smooth coat of black on my stem. Before I use the 2K clear do I wet sand ?
Hi Martin. Love your videos, entertaining and informative (as well as hilarious). Want to do this with gloss white logos on matte black frame. Guessing most pro way is: 2K white primer, sand, white base coat, mask logos, black coat, remove stickers, sand, gloss clear coat, re-mask logos, sand, matte clear coat, flex like a boss. Sound right?
Hey! What great tutorials!! I really love your feed. Just have one question for you. I’ve worked with vinyl for quite some time and was just wondering why you are working with masking tape and/or clear packing tape instead of transfer tape? I found that regular transfer tape works better with vinyl. It is easier to remove after application than other types of tape and have less changes to tear the vinyl.
Love your videos - Thank you On my MTB i have lots of stone chips into the lacquer (paintwork is still intact and not chipped). I would really appreciate a video on how to delicately sand the lacquer without destroying the original paintwork and then apply new lacquer. thanks
That actually is some really in-depth high quality how to. I’ve just ordered a cube bike and don’t know if I’ll be keeping the colors. Looks like a fun winter project. Also thx for the European links. Cheers. 🙂
Great channel! Thanks for the knowledge you provide. One question I have is what software do you use to present your paintings to your customers? and maybe a video on that side of your process?

I have a carbon Rocky Mountain frame that I want to sand down, 2x primer, and color gloss black then 2x matte/satin clear like in the video. I have experience painting solid colors on bikes and feel like I can take it this far from your videos. Issue is that I want to paint on letters and some accents over the matte clear but have them show as gloss. Assume that I mask, then spray on the color for this but then spray 2x gloss maybe one coat before removing decals? Concern is will the lettering be too high with 1x color and 1x gloss clear. Thanks!
Thanks Martin for your tips ! I see all of your videos and i try also to paint my bike! Actually yesterday I paint my bike with paint gun and airbrush! The results was fantastic ( i have use black color and after pigment powder to color my bike frame like you did in the specialized video) till I remove the masking tape...The color (only the black color not the pigment powder color) was also under the masking tape and destroy my graphics! I have try to paint only the destroyed masking parts but no luck! I must sand all the bike frame and start over! :(

Great vids Martin. I followed one of your vids to paint an old aluminium frame. I cleaned the frame to bare aluminium, used etch primer, Montana gold colour and spraymax 2k clear coat. It looks ace, like a pro finish. But the paint is not very durable, it chips off easily. Is there any way to get a more durable finish?
This honesty couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve just finished sanding my frame to raw, and I’m also about to use Montana cans including the aluminium primer. Going to go two or three colours in simple lines, sanding in between each layer etc. My main problem is I’m unsure which varnish to use. I feel like semi gloss is the safest option but may go full gloss as I don’t want it to look dull. Also going to do two coats of primer. Sanding in between the first coat, do I sand the second coat and then go onto base colour or do I just paint straight on top without sanding?
@@cmg9916 thank you that’s what I first thought, the paint needs something to key into so wasn’t sure if it would be too smooth. I’m really excited as I’ve taken my time sanding and I’m in no rush as I have other bikes. It looks so pretty raw I’m almost tempted to polish and clearcoat but think I’m going to stay with beige, plum and pine green with white accents throughout.
When painting a bike (carbon frame with 2k primer) I need to sand after the primer. Do I need to sand again after applying the base coating? Or is it enough for a high quality paintjob to sand the primer and then sand again in between the clear coating steps?
