    ***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
    Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
    We put out 3 new videos every week! Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

    Seeing your darling dog, waiting for his chicks, made me cry. I had a Springer Spaniel who did exactly the same when we had chicks. Even when they were hatched by the broody hens, he would alert us by not leaving their nesting box, telling us that the first babies were here. Sadly he died suddenly. You provoked a very precious, tender memory that I think I had deliberately quashed, because it's still recent. Thank you. xx God bless you and keep you all safe.

      When I was a child we raised pigs. Sometimes we had to bring the runt in & bottle feed it. We had a poodle that would wake mom up when the little pigs squealed & wanted to be fed.

There are hardly any people who do not know someone who has died in the last month. Funerals are forbidden and no buriels. So cute cheepie chicks and yummy greens was a big boost. You can freeze cilantro in water in ice cube trays, then pop the cubes out of the trays and put them in ziplock baggies. When you need that fresh cilantro taste in a recipe, just melt as many cubes as you need for that recipe. You can do that with other fresh herbs, too. Many herbs have a different flavor when fresh and when dried. I've really noticed that with sage and thyme.

      I notice it with basil I think dry basil takes on a black licorice scent. I was coming to suggest this, but my idea was to use olive oil. Water would be nice and neutral, though.

      @mamiebobb4173 4 года назад

      @@HaphazardGardens Even in my little east-facing apartment I manage to get basil to grow like a weed. I do the same as you - rinse it well, blanche it, squeeze out the water, chop it and mix it with olive oil. Then freeze it in an ice cube tray and then pop them into a freezer bag. (Learned that MANY years ago from Jacque Pepin!). I've never tried it with cilantro though. I believe I will now!

    We have had cut and come again lettuce, Swiss Chard, and spinach in the greenhouse, all winter, for several years now. This year we also grew pac choi, cabbage, kohlrabi, radishes and Choi Sum. When you cut the greens, don't wash them until you are ready to use them. They will last better that way. There is nothing like greens fresh from the garden! I harvest almost every day. My favorite salad for tender lettuces like what you harvested is a Wilted Leaf Lettuce Salad. We fry bacon, boil eggs, add chopped scallions or finely diced onions and make a warm vinaigrette with the bacon fat, vinegar, a little sugar and water. It makes a delicious lunch as it is hearty with the crumbled bacon and eggs in the salad.

      Ì do something similar in the Summer but I add Chicken and Tarragon to the Vinaigrette sometimes even a couple of New Potatoes (Especially when the first Jersey Royals appear) . It makes a great lunch or dinner and it's a big hit served as a starter to a dinner party.

    The herbs that you use for cooking you can cut them up and put them in a ice tray. Then gently fill the tray up with water and freeze them. When they frozen ice cubes pop them out and put the ice cube in a freezer bag. Don’t forget to label the bags. When you need them in soups or stews or whatever you are cooking just put the ice cube in the pot or pan and let it melt. Fresh herbs. Good luck
