I started to incorporate the plant paradox diet 2 weeks ago and have lost 4 lbs and sleep better at night. I watch your videos every morning on RUclips and love all the great information provided. I wish I found out about you 10 years ago when I was suffering from terrible migraines. I had no idea the connection food had on my headaches and poor sleep!

Very interesting podcast. I’ve been on the Dr Gundry diet now for about 18 months and have lost 16 kgs. I have to say that I am amazingly surprised by the changes in my body. I no longer have a ravenous appetite. After listening to your video last night I thought I’d skip breakfast today and not snack. I can’t believe I was able to do it. I’m sooo grateful to you for your program Dr Gundry. I am so excited about reading your next book on Energy when it comes out. I watch all your videos, I’ve read all your books and I think you are way ahead of conventional knowledge on a healthy diet. Here in Australia dieticians largely promote a whole grain diet. I wished I’d known all your information 50 years ago. I’m 70 just like you. Thankyou very much for your work. Suzanne

So much great information!!! I need to re-watch this like 3 times. I have always thought about Ramadan and the fasting period. It's been going on for centuries and obviously have healthy benefits regardless of the religion view. That ancient knowledge!. The elders of the villages. Thanx Dr. Gundry!!!.

I've been Vegan since november 2019, not a long time, but I keep myself to the diet strictly, and I have never felt myself better! I have been working out way before my diet change, and what I realized after the diet change, was that I could stress my muscles for longer, and with heavier weights, I had way less muscle tension the other days, My overall mood got better, I started losing fat, and I am now happy with what I achieved.
I just found out about your channel, and I have been watching a few of your videos, it's always nice to learn new things.

    Dear Dr. Gundry,
Thanks a lot for all your insights! I really love your podcast and share it a lot with my friends and family.
I started your diet because I found out, that I had real problems digesting lentils and beans... so here is my problem and question: even though I pressure cook chick peas and peas after soaking them for 48 hours, I experience extreme stomach aches and pimples after eating them. So what else can I eat for the 5 days apart from salat, since the plant based proteins seem not to be available for my gut bacteria ;o)
Thanks for your advice from Switzerland

Hi Dr, you seem to be suggesting that for longevity the less animal protein the better for everyone. I thought Valter Longo recommends increasing animal protein in older adults after a certain age to prevent frailty. Could you please help clarify? Thanks!

Dr Gundry, This Podcast is excellent!!!! This really helps me describe how I eat to my friends and family. And most of my friends and family are terrified that they might not be allowed to eat meat. A lot of people are fascinated with the Keto diet and it's primarily because they get to eat meat. However, the Keto diet doesn't really explain the science of MTOR or IGF-1 and NEU5GC. I also really like how you are projecting your next book, The Energy Paradox. I am excited to read it. I also appreciate you mentioning Dr. Bredesen's new book. Another thing about the Keto diet is that they tend to vilify the Sugar Industry for blaming heart disease on saturated fat, however, they never explain cholesterol. Currently, I am still trying to get my cholesterol down to the normal level on my labs. I have made great progress, but I have done that by limiting my meat intake. My cholesterol is almost normal, so for my next labs, I am limiting my meat even further. I have recently been studying the Dr. Esselstyn diet from his book, "How To Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease". But, the Vegan diet is heavy on rice, soy and other proteins that cause inflammation. I did the Vegan diet for one entire week. I gained 4lbs. I had a low level recurring headache. I reversed this and went back to The Plant Paradox way and my low level headache immediately disappeared. I have been eating in a two to three hour eating window as well as exercising while in fasting mode. I should lose those 4lbs. as fast as I put them on. What I have discovered is that Your plan and the way you teach, is superior to anything else out there. And, I watch a lot of podcasts because I want to learn what works and what doesn't work. Thank you for your good work!

I had to go back to the Plant Paradox and diet for people with autoimmune issues before I lost weight. I read Plant Paradox , fell down the rabbit hole. I tried keto diet, carnivore diet - nothing but " losing inches'. When I went back to Plant Paradox (which I must credit as being reccommended by my primary Dr.) I realized the auto immune diet may be for me and it was. I had experienced hair loss and red skin on my face and neck for no reason. I honestly thought bloodwork would lead to testing for lupus! Instead the Dr. said I was pre - diabetic and to cut out processed foods, told me to read Dr. Gundry too. It took awhile for me to make the connection but when I did it made sense. The auto immune diet is plant based ( greens) with limited animal protein. To give a visual the book literally said your daily animal protein should be about the size of a deck of cards or less. I lost 60 lbs following this.

I also meant to say I did add approx. 1 hr. daily exercise in fasted state. Also, it is a waste of time trying to explain this to some people. They don't want you to lose weight!

Dr. Gundry, I have been following your plant paradox food pyramid and 16:8 fasting for weeks now, which I love, but I am still having some sleep/insomnia problems, especially after workout days. I have noticed if I eat less than 200 g of carbs, I have these problems, probably because I have depleted my carb storage and enter a keto-flu state. (This is my guess because I have been on Keto before and I wake up with bad breath) I know your pyramid focuses on higher fat eating in general, but for athletes do you see any issues with having our macro nutrients split more even between approved carbs and fats? Does the combination of carbs and fat cause weight gain due to insulin? Thank you Dr! Your program has improved my life in so many ways.

I do not know how vitamins could get mixed, it is good to know how to take vitamins for example Z, D, B12 , Mag, Omega3 , C can we mixed them up together or can we take them together ,what is the best way to have? I know has to be with food if we restrict our eating time then we need a good program for vitamins I am not big fan of multi vitamins and as one of the comment said how about exercise, Thank you so much for this greatest lecture.

Dear Doctor Gundry. I am one of your book readers (I have three, the plant and longevity paradox + the plant paradox cookbook).
Despite not being new to the information or the solution provided in your book (let's say I won't be able to hate you for the first three days cleanse).
I believe yours is the best book about healing from bad disease I have ever read!
I need to understand why you only recommend Alaskan wild salmon. Is it because the book is mainly written for the US audience? I can find wild UK salmon, but somewhere in the book you clearly state not to buy the Scottish salmon (or the UK anyway) if I am not wrong. Should I avoid it?
    Thanks if you answer :)

Thanks Steven, this was a fascinating episode. I read, and loved, the Longevity Paradox earlier this year and started adapting my diet accordingly. Currently I fast 16 hours a day, but am keen to start the 5 day vegan fast once a month on top of this. My question, as someone is who is very active, should I restrict my exercise on the days of the fast? I am 37 years old, 190cm and weigh about 92kg, I do a lot of weight based exercising, on top of cycling and yoga (according to my fitness tracker I burn an average of 3,800kcal a day) and have always followed the mantra of requiring protein for recovery (often a vegan or fish source). So curious if I need to take a little break over the 5 days?
I'm already excited for the Energy Paradox
    Thanks always

    27:48 Loss of the mind..
In a nutshell- the main reason is because the homies (neuro cells) prefer sugar than doing their job. So if you eat alot (because all food has sugar, they just vary) you're damaging your brain.
If you limit sugar, neurocells wont pay much attention to the sugar because there isnt much, and theyll just continue about their duty. But if you over indulge.. it's just a matter of time before you forget your own name, motor function, cognitive abilities, etc. Again, in a nutshell, just dont be 'big'. Stay thin and live good.
If you're big you're only going to suffer, not just from health, but the run around and medical bills. And the medical cartel will have you hop through every hoop they can think off, and not even cure, but treat you for now. It's a mess. And it's all because you couldnt control your eating habits or junk food.
Look up your BMI and stick to it.

This is what happens when you base your diet off of garbage epidemiology with several confounding variables like healthy user bias. Animal protein restriction as we age is a very bad idea because of muscle wasting that occurs. Eat plenty of meat, take care of your metabolic health and no worries about IGF1
