Before you leave a crabby comment because you are mad about the title of the video, I suggest you actually watch the video, because youll probably end up agreeing with what I have to say AND youll realize that I also made a video about why Iguanas make great pets for the right people :)
So you got a couple up your facts wrong green iguanas can get to be 7 foot I have a 7 foot male and I would never feed him a whole head of lettuce cuz first of all that's too big of a meal and when I feed its fruits and vegetables with it i always mix it up so he has different stuff every day anyway you did a good job with you rest of the facts i just wanted to let you know keep you the good videos
@@killapopper8835 Thank you for your feedback. I always refer to them getting 6’ because that is the common average, but like any species there will be individuals that end up being bigger and those who end up being smaller :) As for diets, those are discussed in more detail in my care guide and iguana nutrition video. This video was more so meant to dissuade people from buying them, as opposed to telling them how to care for them. As for greens, I guess it depends on where you shop, because my bunch of greens could easily be eaten in 1-2 days by an adult iguana, but if your bunch of greens is much larger than what I have access to, then It probably would take a couple days :)
Ok true they just take more care and time than others not bad just more work
@@zareptiles mine is 5’ I thought that was huge danggggggg
@@Anchlous_TTV I have seen some MASSIVE ones in some of the iguana groups in in on facebook! It’s amazing that they can get as big as some of them do!😄
ZA: " Iguanas can live up to 20 years, that's a long time."
My Sulcada tortoise that's been past down 3 generations: *Pathetic*
Thats a whole other ball park for a whole other topic 😂 Also why I cringe when I see people get baby tortoises and I hope and pray that they have a future plan for when the tort out lives them😂
@@zareptiles Ya, most people don't know how long there going to live but get them anyway, my grandfather bought Odin (the sulcada) when he was 17 in the mid 60s and has been a part of the family for almost 60 years.
Edit: He when to Africa in the mid 60s do to my great grandfathers work and bought him because he was injured. He is missing a foot, I think he was caught in a poachers trap.
@b b because the tortoise is 60 years old .
@b b it's called a joke
@b b because he’s saying how if she thinks the iguana lives a long time think about how their tortoises are a long life
The iguana listening to you say that they are horrible pets: 👁💧👄💧👁
He’s ok with it because he knows he’s my favorite lol!
She’s doing an excellent job educating people who don’t know much about iguanas, and are considering buying one. If you don’t understand that, then you’re a perfect example of someone who should not have an exotic animal, or any animal, for that matter.
Thank you for realizing that iguanas aren’t for everyone and take a lot of energy and patience to keep happy and healthy
Absolutely - this subject is super close to my heart and important to me to talk about because of the condition Arcadius was rehomed to me in. The people that had him didn’t mean to not provide for him correctly, and they thought they were caring for him right, but he ended up with severe MBD and honestly shouldn’t have survived what he went through with his injuries. I see this happen with iguanas too often - except unlike Arcadius, they don’t even up making it, so I try my hardest to really help people determine if an iguana is right for them before they make the purchase and commit.
I was at college . At the bathroom , there was a lady with one . He was dressed up in a Bow tie . He was a hit with the ladies . I said hi . He seemed very calm .
Did he score? 😝
You went to college at a bathroom?

I’ve had my Bobby boy for 4 years now, from hatchling- and he is the best decision I’ve ever made. The sweetest, calmest, most affectionate iguana I’ve ever seen. I agree they aren’t for everyone but they definitely don’t make “bad pets”. That’s all up to the caretaker.
It’s not all about them and their attitudes - this video covers any aspect of keeping an iguana that wouldn’t be ideal for the average person looking for a pet reptile. Arcadius is the sweetest boy ever, so I wouldn’t say he’s a bad pet, however due to the level of care they require and the potential for a bad attitude which could result in very dangerous situations if not prepared, I would consider them bad pets for most people. We just happened to be very fortunate that our iguanas are very sweet! :) This also isn’t the only video I have made on the subject - I followed up this video with “why iguanas make great pets for the right people”, because they do make very rewarding pets (for the right people)
💞💞💞💞
How long did the iguana stay a baby?
@@deondavis4123 not very long
@@deondavis4123 that’s all I know
Rule number one: don't get more than 1 if you get an iguana. The can fight and wound each other viciously. They might get along and stay together as little ones, but as they grow one can try to become dominant and attack the other. Years ago I had a male and female. The male bit the female on the leg and ripped the flesh open. I had to take her to the vet.
Agreed! Something that shouldn’t be attempted unless you are pretty much an expert and know what you are doing 😂 I’ve seen groups of females being kept together before, but usually the males have to have their own enclosure 😂
Iguana was my first lizard. I wish I could go back in time to tell 15 year old me what a mistake that was for me at the time. I should've told 15 year old me to get a tegu instead
I think tegus are definitely much better pets for someone wanting a big lizard without dealing with the dangers of an iguana! 😄
@@zareptiles I'm actually considering getting an iguana again now that I've got some years under my belt on good reptile care
I'm 15 and I want one
But I might get a tegu idk
I have an iguana I've had her for about 2 years now, when she was wayyyy smaller I had her in a cage and then once I was not able to get any cages for her to fit I started to let her Roam around the house she gets along perfectly with me dogs and my other reptiles I have a huge container in the bathroom so she knows to go in there when she needs to I make sure if she wants to be in the heat she has a room that is inside or I let her on my deck with a little kitty pool( shes a little spoiled baby girl )
I have done 7 months of research and I have saved up for 1 for over a year 😃 as there are just so many different options on green iguanas
That’s so awesome that you are taking your time and not rushing into it! That’ll definitely help you be nice and prepared!
Umm... if it takes you over a year to save up for a $70 iguana, I don't know if you should get one...
@@rowenakers8712 well iguanas also require big inclosures, correct lighting and food and also vet check ups so they're quite expensive if you consider all their other needs
@@claudioconforti5608 from my experience, females are the ones that that need to get vet checked. Males tend to do good
It took you a year to save 50 dollars
I desperatly want an iguana but I realise now (because of this video) that right now I’m not prepared to have one. I’ll probably get one in the future when I’m fully prepared to have one! Thanks for making this video :)
Im so glad this was helpful! Thats why I started this channel - to help showcase iguana ownership and help people have a better understanding of what goes into owning one, because thats stuff they dont tell buyers upfront. Way too many iguanas suffer from people not being fully prepared for them, so any person and Iguana I can help is a win in my books! 😁 Im so glad to hear you are waiting a bit longer to make sure you are fully prepared 😁
Great stuff. I’ve been doing a lot of videos here lately on these guys. So thought I’d check you out as well. Great stuff.
Thank you!
Me looking at my iguana right now:👁👄👁
Iguanas are my favorite animal, and for 2 years I have cared for a lovely Axanthic Iguana, he's friendly, loves people and attention, but would I ever recommend one? No. The main reason being that just because mine is sweet, doesn't mean others are. And even so, I have scars running down my body due to his claws. There is so much upkeep and maintenance I have to take care of, there are numerous cons (As well as pros) but Iguanas are definitely expert level pets and should be avoided at all costs as a beginners reptile.
Couldn’t have said it better 👏
love the video! thank you so much I'll be sharing this on my site :)
aww thank you so much! :D
I always wanted an iguana when I was little and as of recently I’ve started really getting into reptiles. I currently have a sulcata so I’m waiting for her to over grow her enclosure and I was curious about iguanas as pets and this is super informational because there are SO MANY different species and knowing some sort of knowledge about one species of iguanas is great as I can have conversations with other reptile owners.
I’m so glad you found this informational! 😁
Thank you for the very useful information 🙏
Thank you ! 😁
Great video with a lot of amazing information! Iguanas are incredible animals but definently not for everyone
Arcadius is soooooo cute!
Aww thank you! 😄
TL;DR: It's like owning a big dog. Most people get them when they're small and cute, but when they grow up, get rid of them. People are stupid and treat their pets like plush toys
💕 I enjoyed listening to the 10 reasons. I have a blue iguana 4 yrs old, about 30 inches long. Its a He...
I just posted video of him in this category. just look under blue iguana...
People have asked me to do this so I did. He is very smart. Easy to teach. Paper trained in House, RV. He is un caged and does unusual things. Anyway I don't want to brag on him too much. I live in Flordia . We should compare notes sometime...
Great video! Very informative:)
thank you!
I'm always cautious of buying reptiles in general now. Parents should be very careful when picking one out for their kid. My mom let me rehome a friend's gecko when I was in the 4th grade. The thing ended up living for 26-28+ years (age unknown)! Whatever their lifespan says, double it as a precaution.
Lol early 90s we were getting a reptile from our suburban pet store. Choices: iguana, Burmese python, leopard gecko. Got the gecko. Lived over 20 years easy. I grew up, joined the army, did 4 years, got married, had a kid, that kid started growing up, sucker was still alive.
To be clear to people, this very beneficial information she provides revolves around mostly green iguanas and perhaps some other forms, if you DO IN FACT go the Iguana route. Might I suggest getting a "Spiny-Tailed" Iguana.
The pros with spiny-tailed iguanas
> More diverse diet
> Not quite as big as green Iguana
> Since it isn't as big, you can settle for a smaller enclosure
> Don't worry too much about a vertical enclosure, as Spiny-tailed iguanas tend to be more ground dwellers
Cons:
> Watch that tail as it comes with spikes!
> Smaller size can also make it easier to slip away from you and hide (I have already had 2 close calls lol)
Miscellaneous:
> As far as aggression? It is hard to say considering that some sources suggest some species of iguanas are more aggressive than others. But then other sources will turn and say the opposite information. (Like humans, some iguanas have their own personalities) Personally, the Spiny-Tailed female iguana I own was only aggressive with me the first week I owned her. After a week of handling, I now let her outside of her enclosure to roam around in my room. She has not tail-swatted me or made an attempt to bite me in aggravation (She DID bite my finger on accident once when I was dangling a pea pod above her)
Other notes:
Please do pick up after these animals as like most reptiles, they tend to carry pathogens (Like salmonella) in their GI tract as well as their saliva has been known to have it as well. So, make sure to bathe these animals in warm water every day or 2 and brush their claws so if they DO scratch you it lowers the odds of you contacting infections (And also be sure to wash your hands and the areas where you were scratched with anti-bacterial hand soap) Warm water and vinegar will be your best friend when cleaning the enclosures or sanitizing areas the iguana "did their business"
Now of course, BE CAREFUL with looking on the internet about salmonella, the internet will have you thinking that you're gonna get salmonella every time you so much as touch the iguana. Though the risk is always there, just keep to basic hygiene standards and cancel any plans of French kissing your scaly friend, and you should be more than fine.
Great info! Thanks for adding it!
@@zareptiles No problem :)
Very informative and a lot to consider! Before I invest in anything I always like to hear the bad and ugly before I admire the beauty. Realistically there are several points about Iguanas, which I learned from your video, that may make it difficult for me to take care of one... having said that, I believe there's a right pet for everyone, perhaps an Iguana just isn't on the table for me at the moment. Cheers! 🙂
Thank you so much for the great feedback! I love hearing that! This is why I made videos like this! Everyone gets mad at these videos because I am talking down on species, but I think it is so important to know the potential negatives of owning an animal, not just the positives, because that is what really has an effect on your relationship with the animal
I could listen to your voice all day
Awww archadeus getting a kiss on the cheek ❤❤❤
Thank you, this video is extremely informative. i used to have an iguana as a pet and invested a lot of time caring for it. I would like to do it again as I am now an adult and can cover all necessary expenses. I went to a pet store to try and buy a green iguana and I realized i developed a phobia...i would like to understand how that happened? i used to love all reptiles, now i am all jumpy and scared of them..i do not understand, yet i am fascinated by them.
Im glad you thought so!😁 Also it might just be that youve been away from them for long enough that your just a little nervous from being out of practice. Maybe see if you can find someone else with reptiles that will let you hang out with theirs to help you get comfortable again :)
Nice video. I actually don't own an iguana per-se, but I do live in the tropics and there is park with a creak close enough that wild iguanas come to the backyard all the time (actually my mom hated 'em 'cause they keep eating her bougainvilleas - they particularly likes the flowers 😆). There's this large male that is so used to see us that actually let some of us pet him (My gf named him Gaston - LOL). Also whenever eggs hatch you can see the little green things running all over the place some actually get in the house to hide from the birds (they hunt 'em down) and like you say they DO have personalities. Some of the littlest ones (about the size of my palm) will actually jump into your hand if you reach for 'em and some others actually hiss and others just don't care.
i agree so much on all of this! people truly dont understand what they are getting into when they get this as a tiny cute lizard
I have a green iguana, and your Right her tepament is ❤ I love her . ❤️ she's in a huge cat hut we enclosed with thick plastic and 2 huge basking areas and a 24 in ubv high out put . ❤ she's definitely a hands-off reptile, but again, Gamoria is loved . ❤ . Love your videos and arcadias
thank you!
YESSS 🙌 I LOVE iguanas but it's not realistic for me to house one, at least not now. Also, "eat a better diet than me" 😂😂
I missed a perk of having a reptile in my new video... sometimes they encourage you to eat kinda healthy 😂
Informative, sad people don’t give the best care😩 I wish people researched pets before getting them, and be prepared to give them the best care for their life.
Great video. Looks like I’m ordering one right now
I’d watched on my main account before deciding that I definitely wanted one and can handle it and care for him properly. He arrived yesterday. He’s a good, tame boy. I love him.
Im glad you were 100% committed and knew what to expect going in! I hope you guys build an awesome relationship together 😁
ZA Reptiles thank you so much💖
I liked the video because I learned something and you’re very cute!
thank you!
Just got a young iguana a few days ago, and even when they're young you've still gotta care about them well
Exactly! Its especially important to have your care spot on when they are young, because that is their time of rapid growth :)
This is a good video I love iguanas but you pointed out some things that makes me think twice.
Very informative video.
Thank you!
Excellent iguana instructor
Can you have an outdoor enclosure for your iguana if you live in Florida as I do? Whenever I go outside I see iguanas chilling in trees even when its cold and they seem fine. Seems if you can get an area with a tree and build a small lake next to it then your iguana will be fine.
Yes you can though I believe there are now strict guidelines on how indoor and outdoor enclosures must be built in Florida, so I recommend checking in with your state laws :)
Everything you said is 100% true. Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
My 5 year old male took years to calm down with patients and respect he is now a puppy even when he comes into season he still is fine with me witch isn't that common for a male. The problem is there so readily available and sold cheap in pet shops and people don't do enough resurch in the UK rescue centers are full of them. Great video buy the way.
Thank you so much! Im so glad to hear you were patient and spent the time working with him! Sounds like it really paid off!😁
I rescued an iguana and had no idea they could play dead. So to add to your point definitely do your research lol it was a dramatic performance. I did so much research bought the right lighting but I never knew they could play dead
I had actually never heard this! Definitely not something you hear about often!
I live in India, here the climate is tropical. And thinking of getting an Iguana!
I believe it'll be easier for me to care for an Iguana than someone in US?
I am constantly doing my research though. Thanks for the video!
I just woke up from a dream very convinced to get an iguana so thank you for taking me out of it 😂
Glad I could help! 🤣
When I was 16 I got a 10 year old big boy and to say I was unprepared was an understatement however I did the research and he was happy he passed away unfortunately at 14 years old but I'm actually about to get my second iguana this guy's maybe a year or two old wish me luck
Im sorry for your loss, but so happy to hear that youve done all your research! Best of luck!
fun fact.... you can give adequate light to a very large lizard with REFECTIVE SURFACES and ONE light. I have done it. Hope that helps someone.
We got my little brother a blue iguana about a year ago, we left him in his enclosure for a few days and admired him from a far, I don’t know if this is normal but he absolutely hates us, he won’t let us pick him up, as he got bigger we had to drive a few hours to get him a big cage and they said as he got bigger he would feel less threatened, he is huge and loves to hang out in his little hammock at the top of his cage, but he hates it when we try to touch or even look at him, he is adorable and I hope at some point (especially during quarantine when he gets more used to us since we are always at home) he will get more calm and understand we aren’t here to hurt him :3
I have an iguana taming video with lots of tips for bonding! Maybe youll find something helpful there 😁
i agree. i see so many people feed them bad things, its so sad.... and when they give them small cages
Yes! I feel like the two main parts where people tend to fall short on their care is the diet and the enclosure size
I wouldn’t consider them bad pets for everyone but most people who haven’t done enough research might have a hard time for them, bc for me I’m 15 I’m planning to do a lot of research on Iguanas bc I want one when I am like in my late 20s or early to mid 30s It really depends on how much research u do on them, how much money u have, how often u try to tame them, how much u feed them, if u give them the right lighting, and what enclosure u buy them

Nothing will stop me from buying a literal dinosaur, I’m sorry😂💀
As long as you feel as though they are a good fit for you and you can provide proper care to one then go for it! That’s the most important thing! Otherwise there are plenty of other alternatives that would be suitable to your dinosaur needs 😁
I never had an Iguana, while I love animals and reptiles are extremely interesting in my opinion they terrify me. I wouldn't be able to socialize a snake or lizard properly so I haven't and won't get one. Great video and great advice!
Thank you! Its very important to know your own personal limits! :)
Thanks sister, my iguana got a good home now
If I lived down south and had a greenhouse for it to live in I'd consider getting an iguana
that would be awesome for an iguana!
Thank the lord I watch this truthful video!
Important things to consider when thinking about getting an iguana! Thanks for watching!
Had mine for 13 years I love all your reasons though
I have 2 babies and they are easy for me to take care of because I live in Florida so I don't need light bulbs because the sunlight is better for them. I grew up with iguanas and I had wild caughts Florida iguanas.
I have a blue iguana and he is 6 months old but comes from a neglected home. he wont let me tame him and he just whips his tail at me all the time. any tips?
I recommend checking out my iguana taming video for some ideas! :) ruclips.net/video/zpq7g4OzsXI/видео.html
Omg i think im in Love 🥰
I really appreciate this video.
It's super important to know all of this information before committing to a large reptile.
I also have an iguana. He's a touchy boy but I love him very much lol😊
Thank you so much! And you are absolutely right! Its all fun and games to say you have a big animal, but big animals = Big commitments
I have heard about one of those potential problems on some Nature Program on Reptiles. Which is on the Lizards. Henry Lizard Lover said about the Male Iguanas. They’re raised alone & don’t see other Iguanas & will stalk & attack humans. But it was a good thing Henry Lizard Lover showed the demonstration when 1 Male Iguana sees another Male. But at least he held on to the mellowed one while the other was in its boundaries for a private moment. Sometimes I wish Iguanas would understand that we’re different from them. No doubt that some life like toy would let it be a minor comfort of its own kind. Especially if it’ll be convincing enough to not attack a human. But we might have to pretend that the toy or figure it struggling like the real thing wanting to fight & takeover the other’s area.
My mom had one when I was a child and it became a nightmare when it got older. It attacked everyone, killed my pet bunny and it got so territorial not even she could handle it. She had to give away to a sanctuary. Also they're an invasive species in my country, we call them bamboo chickens.
@Coomer D Puerto Rico.
Aww im sorry to hear about your bunny! It's amazing how much they can change when they hit puberty
Op is so pretty I forgot I was trying to show my daughter the iguana.
I've had my iguana for about 5 or 6 yrs. Bought her from regular pet store . She had a tail that was brown like it got cut off and grew back or something. She was sweet . Once she got to about 4 ft I no longer kept her in a cage. I built her a little home in the corner of my room. She had heating rock and lamp , and branches and a hammock. She was free to go wherever she wanted in my room. I would walk her around in the summer time and everything. She was about 5 ft when I gave her away. I had to move from Massachusetts to Washington state and couldn't bring her with me. Iguanas take a lot of work to care for them so if your thinking about it do your research.
If I ever move into a place with 2 rooms then I might consider it but depending on the size of the room so probably not going to happen
My big red iguana was like the iguana in the video but someone stole her because I kept her in a outside enclosure and someone used bolt cutters to cut the lock on the cage and I was so mad but I got 4 babies green iguanas that eat well . I also am keeping a ornate nile monitor which also needs a big enclosure.
Aww I’m sorry about your iguana
I raised two male iguanas from hatchlings to 20+ years old. You are correct, they are not for most people.
Thank you for backing me up LOL! Thats awesome that you were able to raise them up to those ages!
Awesome video! Cost me $500 to build their outdoor enclosure and I already had a preexisting base. It was about $300 for their indoor enclosure but I'm very fortunate to be friends with people who can sometimes provide me lighting for free/discounted
I’m hoping to build an outdoor enclosure for Arcadius this year! It’s awesome that you have those connections!
I live in Panama so we already have iguanas everywhere 😂
So I've been doing research and everything because my mom said I could have one if I dedicate myself to it. My question is mainly just what I should do. I got one today (I actually found it because it was moving pretty slow) and I just wanna make sure I don't mess up
Before I can give any information that will be usefully to you, can you tell me exactly what you mean by you found one? I’m curious if you mean you found a wild one and your in Florida. How I answer your question depends on whether or not he was wild caught and if you are located in Florida :)
@@zareptiles yes. It was wild caught. I'm actually in south florida. Someone told me it might not be an iguana though and that's where I'm getting confused
Ahh I see. I was wondering if you lived in Florida, because If it is an iguana, it is now illegal to own iguanas in Florida. You would have had to own it prior to July 1st I believe and would have to follow the new protocols and guidelines to have your animal grandfathered in to be able to legally keep it
zowie: You need multiple heat lamps
az heat: 🥸
When you have a big fully grown iguana, the only way to make sure the heat covers the surface area of their body is to provide multiple lights
I remeber we had a room just for an iguana we had when I was a kid was 15x15x10foot long and it was a mini jungle saddly we moved and we couldn't bring her we had her for 10 years
That sounds amazing! Im sorry to hear you weren’t able to bring her with you
Is an iguana leash a good idea? As far as them resting on shoulders?
I have a harness and leash for arcadius. I wouldn’t put him down outside without one because they can move quickly when they want to. There are different styles of leashes/harnesses, so you just have to find one to your liking :)
I have a question about blue iguanas in general. I’ve been researching on my own time and I wanted to know if blue iguanas are legal as pets in California.
sorry Im unaware of the animal ownership laws in other states. Be careful when googling blue iguanas, because you might get info on the Grand Cayman blue iguana, which is illegal to keep. When looking for information regarding ownership in your state, look for “green iguanas”, because the blues like Arcadius are just a color variation of a green iguana :)
@@zareptiles Thank you for the information.
Would a Bearded Dragon be a better choice for a pet lizard? I remember back in the 90s everybody had an Iguana it was as common as having a dog or a cat. Ferrets and Macaw parrots I remember were another very common house pet in the 90s. Today not so much except maybe Ferrets I still see common once in a while.
Yes bearded dragons are much better! Their care is very similar to an iguanas but on a smaller scale, and you don’t have to worry about humidity! The only addition would be that Bearded dragons also eat insects where iguanas dont. They would need uvb, high heat, and salads like a bearded dragon, but a smaller enclosure, lower humidity, and they are much better with tolerating human interaction! Mean beardies are much less common than mean iguanas
ZA Reptiles Thank you so much for the info! Do Bearded Dragons live just as long as iguanas too? I’ve been getting conflicting info online some say bearded dragons only live around until 8 to 12 years while some say they can live up to 15 years old and even 20!
Being a beardie owner brought me here. I think a beardie makes wonderful pets. They love to be held! The only bad thing is the live insects. I learned to get over that pretty quickly, but some of the insects are like a second pet. You have to house them properly, feed and give them water so your beardie gets healthy insects. Its kind of sad taking care of them then feeding them to your dragon lol. But my dragon is super chill and loves to hang out and he is even good with my 5 and 3 year old.
I really want one. My family owns a farm so providing food won't cost me as much cuz itl get fresh produce.
That’s convenient!😁
So beautiful Igunana, I from Indonesia
thank you!
is it a good first pet because i am looking to get one for my 13th birthday and my sister has a bearded dragon
I definitely would not recommend them as a first pet. Having experience and a good understanding of lighting, nutrition, is key not to mention understanding how to handle a very large animal prone to becoming aggressive during breeding season. Check out my should you own an iguana quiz video as well as my best beginner pets video for some ideas! 😁
I’ve been asked to take on a green iguana by a gentleman that is going through kidney failure and can no longer care for him. I’m used to ball pythons (aswell as my cats and dogs 🙄) and have a whole room I could dedicate to the iguana but how would I keep a 12ft by 8ft room warm and humid enough to let him free roam? Unfortunately this little guy (10-12 months) is also quite angry and tail whips when you approach his current Vivarium. I really don’t know what to do 😩
Bless your heart for taking him on! Hanging basking lamps isnt too hard, just make sure they are hung so that he cant touch them and burn himself and you can use a humidifier to keep up the humidity! Id also recommended asking iguana fb groups for tips for converting a room to an iguana enclosure because many people have done it and can give you helpful info! :)
About thirty years ago, I wanted an Iguana as a pet after someone brought one to a party. It looked really cool with it's lovely orange green colour and was really sweet and a little harness and lead set, I let it climb on my shoulder. I think it was a female. I started nagging mum to buy me one and she said let's go to the pet shop and ask about them first. We went in the shop, spoke to the assistant who showed us their Iguanas and all the equipment and care they actually needed. Naturally I decided not to buy one.
I just adopted a young blue female, she has a massive home. I did my research before
Thats awesome! And thats great that you researched before! 😄
Is it legal to sell them in California? Specifically Stockton California? I went to the Stockton flea market, and they sold them there, and that’s not the most “exotic”, they also sold TUCANS and BLUE AND YELLOW MACAWS. I’ve done some research, and a lot of conflicting sources contradict each other. So yes… asking a human who has one
I just got a pet iguana and got extrememly lucky he was docile and tame from the moment i picked him up
That’s very lucky!
Depends on the person. I miss mine. But my dad accidentally killed mine by overheating him. R.i.p. Oliver
Im sorry to hear that! and you are right, it completely depends on the person! Thats why the title for the second video after this was Why iguanas make great pets for the right people! 😁
@@zareptiles thanks! I'll check it out
I got an iguana before doing the research & there are so many sources on why they are bad pets. I do not know what to do 😀
I would just recommend continuing to do lots of research and going above and beyond to provide him with a great life! If you think you will not be a good fit for him, theres no shame in finding him a home with someone experienced that can give him what he needs :)
When I was a teenager my mom said no to an iguana and I was salty about it but now I am glad she said no
Hmm, interesting points I will agree. But where I live people do not keep Iguanas in enclosures and keep them in their backyards! And put heating lamps outside! It's really funny. I think you made a good vid. But I'm just saying.
Where I live its winter most of the year, so for everyone up north keeping outside isnt an option for the majority of the year
@@zareptiles
Hmm... well, in south Carolina we beg to differ.
@@IguanasPlace and thats fine - its not a possibility for us up here
What is the minimum size for an adult iguna?(baby and adult)
Babies can be kept in smaller set ups, but they’ll out grow them very very quickly. You want a large enclosure ready to go by their first year. My views on minimums keep changing as Im in the hobby longer. Ultimately minimum i’d go 6-10’ long, 3-4’ deep, 6’ tall. It really depends on the size of your iguana. Arcadius is stunted so he doesnt need what a huge adult would need, some adults are bigger than others, but plan for alot of space :)
I just got a Blue Iguana a month ago. How do I tell if I got a male or female.
Males will have a broad head, typically a bump on their head, larger dewlap, and larger femoral pores under their legs. Females have a smaller dainty body shape in comparison and smaller or barely visible femoral pores. I suggest googling the difference so you can see images, because its very easy to tell :) However, its not easy until they have reached sexual maturity typically around 2 years of age. Before that they all look like females 😂
I ate a green mix whit blue iguanal already.
I really miss my blue iguana I moved and I couldn’t bring him :(
aww im sorry to hear that!
I just got myself a blue iguana a month ago I love her
I live in Florida so I own about a thousand iguanas haha? if you know, you know

@@raeannegarcia804 yes they're our versions of rats lol
PLEASE HELP ME! MY ROOMMATE JUST GOT A BABY IGUANA AND HE LITERALLY DID NO RESEARCH! I TOLD HIM NOT TO AND HE DID IT ANYWAY! HOW DO I KEEP THIS THING ALIVE!?!?
I have 4 iguanas love them
Your iguana and you are gorgeous!
Thank you!
Im sorry but ive had my iguana for 2 weeks he had scratched me but not on purpose he loves climbing and he has his own room and i take him out every day
They're absolutely beautiful, but I understand I wouldn't be able to take care of one the way they need and it would be irresponsible of me to get an animal that's too difficult for me, so I'll just settle for watching videos and enjoying them from afar. :)
Its very important to be able to admit when an animal wouldnt fit into your life in a way that would benefit the animal, so big kudos to you! 👏😄🦎 Not many people are willing to accept that, hence why I started this channel with the intention to bring awareness to iguana keeping 😁
I just got a igauna yesterday
i wish i could go somewhere to feed and perhaps interact with lizards
