    Hi Michelle & Holger, we loved your opening to the vide, great music and road shots. The drone shots of porpoises are cool and much nicer from the aerial views. We heard "step 2" and had to giggle, we totally relate to step 2's! Holger, great inspiring words, yes your videos make us want to get out and explore. Keep the great work you guys! Ps the crab looks so yummy at camp. Have a great next adventure! Tom & Suzanne

    Fun ride out there in the boat😁 You need to get yourself a boat and get used to being on the water. Start with lakes to get yourself used to it😊 Oh, if you can't swim, then learn to do that!
    Beautiful sunset😃
    Other than the rain, it looked like a good time😃

    • @backroadjournals
      @backroadjournals  3 месяца назад +1

      That was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed myself on the boat in the end. I am actually a decent swimmer and do not have any issues on a smaller lake.
      There is just something about being on the ocean that just gets me, which is kind of ironic considering that I lived most of my life near, or directly by the ocean.
      That certainly was a first step to working on overcoming that fear 🙂.
      Thank You for coming along 🙂.
      All the best,

    Sayward, British Columbia, has many lakes to explore too, but the ocean has many wonders with wildlife.
    In the Campbell River Mirror Newspaper it has the times of the cruise ships to Alaska or heading back to Vancouver/Seattle.
    Up at Cape Scott you can see the Auroras when you look towards Alaska/Russia headings when the Sun ejects CME's.

    • @backroadjournals
      @backroadjournals  3 месяца назад

      We've seen a view cruise ships along the Johnstone Strait last year when we camped in the area. Nice to know that you can actually look up the schedule👍.
      We still have to make it up to Cape Scott, it is certainly on our list of things to do this year. Never seen the Aurora, I guess September, early fall, is the best time for it?
      Thank You for watching 👍.
      All the best,

    Those were Pacific white sided dolphins 😊.
    You have inspired us to go out and explore more! We really enjoy watching the videos and usually try and find the places you go to which isn‘t easy or successful most times, but we did go to the place of this weeks video last September when we visited the island. We love Vancouver Island and have been every year since 2015, except during Covid, but are probably going to give it a miss this year, because we want to explore Europe in our campervan. Whenever we miss the island we‘ll watch your videos. 😊 Best wishes from Germany.

    • @backroadjournals
      @backroadjournals  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank You so much. Just looked up the Pacific white sided dolphin and it fits it perfectly 🙂👍.
      So glad to hear that we could inspire you to get out and explore. Some of the places we've been to have taken us 2-3 tries to get there, but that's just part of the adventure and usually worth it.
      Travelling through Europe in a campervan sounds like a lot of fun and is something we want to do in the (distant) future with our jeep.
      Whereabout in germany are you at the moment? I (Holger), was born and raised in germany.
      All the best,

      @@backroadjournals We live in Bielefeld. Europe is a first step for us. The dream is to ship to Canada and visit lots of interesting places in Canada and the US in a couple of years. 😊 Whereabouts are you originally from?

      I'm originally from Itzehoe, a town north of Hamburg no one needs to know about unless you're taking the train to Sylt 😂. Left Germany in 1998 with stops in Michigan, Mexico, Fuerteventura and Vancouver Island since 2009.

    👍Great Video my friend. Dolphins tend to have prominent, elongated “beaks” and cone-shaped teeth, while porpoises have smaller mouths and spade-shaped teeth. The dolphin’s hooked or curved dorsal fin (the one in the middle of the animal’s back) also differs from the porpoise’s triangular dorsal fin. Generally speaking, dolphin bodies are leaner, and porpoises’ are portly.
    I looked it up because I had the same question? There are more differences but the above is the main. I've got to do a trip to the ocean myself looks amazing. That was a great spot to camp, again great video. God Bless

    • @backroadjournals
      @backroadjournals  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank You 🙂! We looked it up as well as soon as we got home. Turns out these were porpoises, by just comparing the description with the footage. They are also more dominant in that particular area.
