I'm a metal head most of the time but Colter and Tyler and Sturgill are awesome...and I maintain that Colter can smoke an entire brisket just by talking to it
@hb1990 they might be, but Colter is the only one who didn't sell out for Nashville and California. Tyler wasn't the same after he did that run on the west coast, I think he smoked some of that weird shit out there and it fucked his brains harder than the usual shit he does. We've all got opinions, I wouldn't trade Colter for the pair of them any day of the week. I'll never go to another one of either of their shows.

Colter is the epitome of a true country/folk artist. He talks the talk in his records and he’s walked the walk. A cowboy through and through and a storyteller through and through. Favorite artist right now
Such a humble man. I don’t think colter realizes some of us (I think, speaking for myself) listen to his music religiously. “...as a public figure... I don’t see myself as one...” sir, you definitely are a public figure. You bring joy, sadness, and hundreds of emotions to anyone who has listened to your music. Cheers, from Clarksville, TN.
what makes him great imo is that he just wants to deliver first and foremost his music, in an era of constant self promotion and search for social approval the man keeps to himself.
What's the only thing worse than dying? Dying and becoming a legend. But legendary status is earned in his case. He may not be able to recognize it now. Good guy.
I’m a bouncer/ bartender at the Remington in whitefish MT and he just played at our bar and stayed and had drinks with us after closing the bar. And he’s truly a nice and humble dude, having some drinks and talking with him was amazing.
You are right up there with Hank Jr. Waylon, Willie etc. You are the best thing to happen to country music since outlaw country. You’re music is all I listen to now. My phone is loaded with your music. I can’t wait until you start touring again and make sure you come to Alabama when you do. I’m 53 years old and I’ve listened to country music for a long time and I can’t believe someone has finally gotten it right.
Whenever Colter sings, it’s incredible how naturally musical he is like he’s not singing he’s just breathing and I’m just so glad and grateful he picked up music and I know I’ll forever be a fan.
Bald Butte is such a beautiful song for me. It’s a movie in a song with my own characters, picturesque sceneries and a colour palette in my head painted through Colter’s song writing.
Colter is such a genuine down to earth dude. Absolutely love his sound and style. Nice to see him getting the notoriety he deserves, been listening to him for a few years now.
Not to distract from the fact that Colter's singing and song writing are next level but he is a seriously handsome man! He has the most beautiful eyes and a smile i'd walk a country mile to see! Saskatchewan (scratch and yawn) proud!
Love this young man. Honest, down to earth. I live in Alaska bush. Found this artist accidentally, listen to him pretty much 24/7. Gorgeous in looks and soul.

His music creeps into most places in my life but I don’t think it had ever been more fitting than around that fire. Thanks for the great interview
Best interview of colter I have heard ever, great questions and you let him talk. Sound quality wasn't the best due to the circumstances but oh well, i listened to the entire thing through.
Its crazy hearing him talk compared to when he sings its like he really digs deep down into his chest and uses the deepness in his voice as a man with a really deep voice i used to think that i couldn't sing and colter wall really inspired me to start taking singing lessons and learning how to control the bass in my voice.
When he said that the new record is for a certain type of person, it’s apparent. I’m from Iowa and grew up on a farm on the plains. Those songs speak to me on a personal level in regards to lifestyle that nothing else does.
He said he wants to see Alaska? Hey guy! I’m Alaskan! Come on down buddy! Southeast Alaska is the true beauty though. North Alaska might disappoint! Grew up listening to Johnny cash, willie Nelson, Kris kristofferson etc back in the 70s & 80s - when I first heard Colter it took me right back there. Immediate fan and have been playing his music like crazy this last year. He’s a blessing. Thanks for a great interview- it’s great to see and hear colter in a natural environment. 🙏

I've gotta know what Colter did to completely turn his beard growth around. He's got some of the most epic facial hair these days, and that's exactly opposite of what it looked like when he first got noticed in them brewery sessions! Thank you for this fantastic interview. colter wall is a really easy artist to love. not sure what kind of music I really listen to -- a few different genres, but Colter is for sure top of that list.
I can understand Colter wanting to change his voice and learn to sing but there's also an emotion we feel through his gritty raspy voice that gets lost as people learn to sing proficiently. Hopefully, he can find a way to convey that emotion again that dont wear out his vocal chords
I don’t think he’s ever lost the ability to convey that emotion…? Even his new 2-song single released this year sounds just as good as Imaginary Appalachia
You don't hear such deep, rich vocals anymore, especially in country type genres. Mainstream anyway. I was telling my friend that I was just over all the high pitched voices in country and I couldn't get into it other than old country, outlaw country. She said, you'd love Colter Wall then. Because vocals are big for me as a listener, and good guitar pickin' is the bonus. It's about time we have some young blood in the genre that's a classic sound but fresh af at the same time.
It's always a treat to hear artists you look up to discuss their writing process. Also I really enjoy your podcast Mike. You always leave me with good stuff to think about. Keep it up!
I was fortunate enough to see him at Saturn in Birmingham Al an let me tell ya... live is tha best. Hearing it on a phone or radio is one thing but live is 10x better
It’s a far stretch but Colter should write something with Caamp. Both are distinct and have a great way of writing songs and I would like to see what they can come up with
To Colter's bit on stealing from other artists, if you listen to classical much, you'll hear all kinds of floating melodies. Especially in the Baroque period.
Colter wall and Benjamin Tod is all I listen to. Colter shouldn’t feel intimidated by anyone. Because none of those people have his level of talent. He’s miles ahead of anyone, not called Benjamin Tod. Keep on making that awesome music.
