Of the over 1000 Cup races I've seen in my life, this is one of the few races I will always remember watching. I was watching from a recliner in a hospital room in Naples, FL, while my wife laid in the bed beside me, oblivious. I was holding my first child, born about 14 hours earlier. She slept though most of the race. Actually, both ladies mostly slept, Momma and daughter alike; they'd been through a long, exhausting night. But not me, I held that little girl and rocked her and told her how happy I was to finally meet her,.. and just maybe dripped a few happy tears on her brand new cheeks. Oh, and we watched a little bit of Daytona. She became a Bill Elliot fan.
Best era for NASCAR period, late 80s into the mid and late 90s, cars looked and sounded so much better, real paint painted by talented people not some vinal wrap slapped on, actually had men driving them not a bunch of spoiled brats that have had everything handed to them, and over 800hp compared to the pathetic 550 of today.
I'am totaly agree with you my homie ! greetings from france ! it's too square today everyone is controlled it's too much, the only thing on which I think we all agree is the positivity of the evolution of security it is undeniable but , on the side of the car level, style, paint, look it's ugly the cars have no charm anymore they are all identical in their look and their paint scheme excuse me but we don't have a style I have hard to recognize who is who frankly so the nascar of the 80s/90s I am able to know at first glance who is driving who and the sponsor and who is the car!
These cars had vinal wraps too lol. Its been a concept in nascar for a long time lol. It might help to actually know what you're trying to complain about 🤣. Yeah vinal wraps are what ruined nascar lmfao, thats *definitely* whats wrong with nascar 🤡🤡
@@JackTheripper911 Excuse me, I'm French and sometimes it's difficult for me to make myself understood! What I mean is that the car designs from the late 80s through the 90s and 2000s were cool and had better paint schemes. I'm sorry, but today's designs are ugly, too flashy and have too many patterns. A paint scheme like Kenny Wallace's "Cox Treated Lumber" car in green, white, and yellow was really cool back then, or the Snickers car driven by Dick Trickle and Rick Wilson in the 90s or the car chattanooga of larry pearson the car also dirt devil of kenny was so cool really and many others cars. Do you understand what I mean? Nowadays, I have a hard time finding a driver or a car to attach myself to, you know?
"If you only knew how I feel exactly the same way as you. How much I miss those Buick, Lumina, Ford, and Pontiac Grand Prix cars, and their paint jobs with such stylish designs. Today, it's not really that the drivers are young, which is the issue, but rather all the money that surrounds NASCAR, like in all sports where money is massively involved. It generally ruins the very sport itself, and we will no longer have real drivers like Schrader, Earnhardt, or Martin, or any of the others. Even those cryptocurrency sponsors on the cars or internet sites, which we don't even know if they are real, are a disaster. When I watch a race today, I literally get bored.
How could anyone not just love Ol' Sterlin?? He wasn't my driver, but I was so happy to see him finally WIN! 😃👍!!! Neil getting killed really messed up CBS's telecast, as this was easily their worst job of broadcasting The 500 during their entire time doing it, even The GOAT, Ken Squire sounded lost & confused all throughout the race. Of course, that completely understandable, under the circumstances. Guy's like The Great Neil Bonnet don't grow on tree's & his tragic passing still hurt's bad all these years later 🙏 RIP NB 😞
We broke the wall in ARCA qualifying the day before Neil's accident. He hit at the same place we did. Our driver was OK, thankfully. Our car is in the museum at Talladega. Number 77 Chrysler Lebaron. I heard about Neil's wreck on the radio while I was taking our car to Talladega.

I remember getting into a discussion back then with a couple of other NASCAR fans on the gruesome topic of "Who is gonna be the next Winston Cup driver killed in a crash?" and we all agreed it would be Loy Allen, because he was fast, but didn't have much experience. He was put into the Hooters car not because of ability but because he had the image Hooters wanted. Kulwicki wanted Jimmy Hensley put in his car if anything happened to him, and when his wishes were followed, Hooters pulled their money from the Kulwicki team and backed Loy Allen. A couple of years later, Allen did come close to getting killed in a bad wreck at Rockingham that basically ended his career. By that time, Hooters wasn't backing him any more either.

Awkward race! Two people died over the weekend, let's race!
Somewhere out there Bubba Wallace is in diapers dreaming about extension chords in the garage area.....
I bet you’re still in your diapers after making a stupid crybaby comment.
Imagine still accusing Bubba of something he never even found to begin with and being a crybaby commenting about Bubba Wallace over something that has nothing to do with Mr. Wallace. NASCAR fans (or former NASCAR fans) like you have no class.
Move on and stop living in the past, old head
He wasnt even born then!
and get out of here cuz no one asked for your racism
AND HE IS NOT RELATED TO RUSTY WALLACE
@@entertainmentstopmotionnetwork Maybe Kenny Wallace. lol

I wish I could have all the gasoline that they spill during pit stops. I could run my car for quite a while from the wasted gas from just ONE race.
🙄
Union 76 gasoline was the best known supplier for NASCAR. Except the kind of fuel they had was leaded gasoline. Made specifically for NASCAR races. No telling how it would have worked on regular passenger cars.
44:25 Jeff definitely regrets that decision….that little winch costed him millions lol
