It absolutely was. Sadly I was only 11 and didn't realize what I was witnessing. By the time I did, Davey died. My hopes were diminished and then when Dale died, that was it. No particular reason other than interest loss. Then, the rules and gimmick changes over the years have justified my turning away long ago.
One of the sad things about this race is that within two years Neil Bonnett was dead, Alan Kulwicki was dead, and Davey and Clifford Allison were dead.
RIP Glen Wood, glad to see that he saw Trevor Bayne's big upset, but the Wood Brothers couldn't get to 100 wins (Their 99th was Ryan Blaney's first career win at Pocono in 6/2017).
At 1:54 the great Chris Economaki said the Grandstands have been sold out since last April (of 1991), those days even for The Daytona 500 are long gone thanks Brian France.
as somebody 1 year in the future from when you posted that comment...I think Nascar is coming back...or getting better. I didnt watch for 2 years because of how bad it was...im now excited for races again.
Very True and you can bet both France Sr and Jr. are rolling in their graves with what the Asshole Brian France has done to the sport, I hope he Chokes and soon.
Guys are forgetting that he was one hell of a race car driver too he never gets the credit he deserved I know he wasn't no Champion but nobody had more hard licks than he did and maybe had he don't have so many hard licks and bounced around so much things would have been different cuz he was very talented in my opinion deserves to be in the Hall of Fame
now I remember, youtube has a 2.0GB limit so I had to make cuts where they weren't filming any racing just had blimp photos or still photos when broadcast viewers were watching commercials, I finally got it down to 1.993 GB without losing any live action, it was the best I could do, but the still photos had to be sacrificed, I didn't cut any live action
Richard Petty, the King of Stock Cars. A legend on his last ride. 1992...one of the most competitive NASCAR Winston Cup seasons of all-time. By the finale in Atlanta, six drivers would be eligible to win the Winston Cup. Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki. Two of NASCAR's rising stars, yet we're all left to wonder what might have been.
I miss Davey Allison to this day, Nascar got huge without him but I bet if he were still there Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt wouldn't have won as many races and championships, that 28 team with Davey and Larry Mac were to strong and with Fords help they would've ruled the 1990's, but were only left with that all to familiar phrase "WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN", same as Tim Richmond and others.
Dale would've definitely won in 93. Davey wasn't as good in 93 up until he passed it would've taken a good bit for him to beat Earnhardt in 93 but 94 he might've had a chance considering how dominant Ernie Irvan was in the 28 car until his injury. Again what might've been
I think that Clint Bowyer describes the feeling viewer has when one car dominates race to the point where you KNOW who’s going to win.. He calls it “stinking up the show”. And that’s what Yates extra horsepower did here. And, really, the entire 92 season. Crash. Or win. I often fantasize how 28 car would have fared if they had a guy like Dick Trickle or Morgan Sheppard piloting it. The cup would have been Yates for sure
It wasn't really a close call for Kulwicki making the field. He was over 150 points clear of Hut Stricklin, the other provisional starter, and the next-highest in 1991 owner points was Jimmy Spencer, and Stricklin was over 400 points ahead of him in 1991.
Hey, maybe you can write "Race Winner Spoiler -->" or so in the description. So you can only see the winner, when you hit the "more" Button? Would be a good compromise imo. :)
18:00 race start 1:25:00 first caution 1:26:30 second green flag 1:39:03 second caution 1:54:30 third green flag 2:23:10 third caution 2:31:00 fourth green flag 2:42:15 fourth caution 2:47:50 fifth green flag 3:11:28 end of the race
great race thanks for all the effort, the sat/feed is the best quality you can ever have before digital or Hd. Think its cuz its only a wire from the sat to your tv, rather then all the wires from the cable co's to your home kills the quality
people that don't like spoilers should shut up.. they don't have to look at the video descriptions... thanks rowdy for your posts... they are your videos your channel post what you want and forget the babies
Back then, they would do that...drive through the pits at pit road speed limit...to help the drivers match their tachometers to the pit road speed limit.
hey look sorry, but for everyone of you who doesn't like it there are 100 people who are looking for the race won by [insert drivers name] and they don't know what year it is, and all of us die hard old school fans already know who won and wouldn't be upset, so sorry
For the 12th consecutive year, GMA Radio-Television Arts aired the Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway that was won by the late Davey Allison of Robert Yates Racing, as the 12th Year of NASCAR Racing on Philippine Television Commenced on February 17, 1992. The first NASCAR on GMA race of 1992 was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired via tape delay at 2:30 P. M. following Goodyear NASCAR Today with Rico Hizon and Bobby Guanzon
You know, many NASCAR tracks will be perfect for swap meets. The stands are 3/4 m.t. now days. I have found motorcycle side hack racing to be better than circle stock cars. No segments, no cry baby drivers, and no walthrups.
I love the three wide Earnhardt made through the trioval on Ricky Rudd and Michael Waltrip at the beginning of the race without any drafting help so he could get back up with the Fords who had a serious horsepower advantage over the GM cars including Earnhardt.

It was a terrible blow for sure, but they had several great seasons, beginning with '94. They got tired of Nascar always having to help the GM cars keep up, thus the end of the bodies matching the stock cars.
1992 season of NASCAR maybe the best ever.
No maybe about it

What a great day/year for Ford , Alan & Davey , R.I.P. ... You were both great !!!!!!
Losing 2 huge franchise boys in one year was the end for Ford.
RIP Glen Wood, glad to see that he saw Trevor Bayne's big upset, but the Wood Brothers couldn't get to 100 wins (Their 99th was Ryan Blaney's first career win at Pocono in 6/2017).

@@MistaVidz I take that back for 2019.
@@MistaVidz this past year was great. But the 2019 changes will most likely fuck it all up now.
@@MistaVidz Exactly! They always ruin a good thing. They don't wait to work out the small kinks. Just one drastic change after another
It’s a shame that Neil Bonnett died in 1994 because he did a great job as an announcer.
Great, great point/post.... You are exactly right about that... Neal was tremendous with his ability in the booth.
Chris Smith Neil was such a great guy. So sad when he died

Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki. Two of NASCAR's rising stars, yet we're all left to wonder what might have been.
That's all it should be, NASCAR wanted to be mainstream but the more it got that way, the more people wanted to change it to something it never was.
RIP Robert Yates & Davey Allison.
I miss Davey Allison to this day, Nascar got huge without him but I bet if he were still there Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt wouldn't have won as many races and championships, that 28 team with Davey and Larry Mac were to strong and with Fords help they would've ruled the 1990's, but were only left with that all to familiar phrase "WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN", same as Tim Richmond and others.
saddest part was Davey haven't reached his peak. He would have been a championship a few times
That comment pissed off Earnhardt fans.....but it's the truth
Dale would've definitely won in 93. Davey wasn't as good in 93 up until he passed it would've taken a good bit for him to beat Earnhardt in 93 but 94 he might've had a chance considering how dominant Ernie Irvan was in the 28 car until his injury. Again what might've been
The grid music is called "Chasing Shadows" by Yanni.
RIP, Ken Squier.
R.I.P. Davey 😥
I miss the Chris Economacki intros... RIP Pope Chris I.
+Michael McIntyre ...and Ken Squier play by play on the track.
Dale Earnhardt R.I.P.
1992. One of my favourite Daytona 500 of all time apart from many others.

RIP Ken Squier and Neil Bonnett
1991-1992, the greatest years for Nascar.
my favorite daytona 500 allison won if i remember gordon showed up but sadly the king was on his farewell tour
Such precious memories!!
I would say this was the last of the real men of Nascar. The early 90s

Thank you for putting this where we can watch it
So cute the Davey´s babies :))
"Okay guys, let's go! Crank 'em up!" R.L. Petty 2/16/92
Swervin Ervin strikes again.
Surreal looking at Richard in a car since I didn't watch the sport when he drove, but also to see him without the cowboy hat on
wow this is great nostalgia great post

a future nascar team owner has a nice segment at the 1:33:34 mark.
21 Championships combined in the "Big One"
Thanks for the race
1992 season of the underdog...
Thanks for posting this very cool
Holy crap dude, thanks for the upload!
Hey, maybe you can write "Race Winner Spoiler -->" or so in the description. So you can only see the winner, when you hit the "more" Button? Would be a good compromise imo. :)
dont know why. but this is more entertaining to me than the modern day restrictor plate races.
Because it's more of a race than a lottery.
great tribute to the King richard petty 1:31, even got a young brad daughtry giving praise.
really like the helmet cam on richard petty
ROWDYEVERYLAP DOES A GREAT JOB OF POSTING THE WHOLE RACE!
ROBERT OLIVER Satellite feed and all...
I never realized how close Alan came to not making the field. The greatest Championship battle there ever was could have never happened...
Time between Commercial breaks were starting to lessen in the this era. The races in the early 80’s sometimes seem like 20 minutes between breaks
18:00 race start

1:26:30 second green flag
1:39:03 second caution
1:54:30 third green flag

Back when EVERY team tried to compete, not just run a few laps, and then pull off and still collect a check.
The first NASCAR Gen 4 race (as the cars don't look anything like their showroom counterparts, not even the length and height.)
They can always google it.... or else make the spoiler be after you hit the "Show More" button...
great race thanks for all the effort, the sat/feed is the best quality you can ever have before digital or Hd. Think its cuz its only a wire from the sat to your tv, rather then all the wires from the cable co's to your home kills the quality

being very young at the time i almost lost it when i heard alot of thgolden age of nascar drivers
First time i see the king without sun glasses and no hat.
Diego Ospina That's only because he is in the drivers cockpit.
Back then, they would do that...drive through the pits at pit road speed limit...to help the drivers match their tachometers to the pit road speed limit.
but kuddos for having it
Anyone know the name of the music playing during Economacki's intro?
It’s from the soundtrack to “The Rocketeer” by James Horner.
Final Daytona 500 for Richard Petty & AJ Foyt

because it is the satellite feed
Richard Petty's last Daytona 500 ever.

Not knowing what year certain drivers won it is what wikipedia is for.

One of the worst days of my life
Dont be sorry for the butt hurt.
I love the three wide Earnhardt made through the trioval on Ricky Rudd and Michael Waltrip at the beginning of the race without any drafting help so he could get back up with the Fords who had a serious horsepower advantage over the GM cars including Earnhardt.

Allison and Kulwicki's death was the end for Ford in NASCAR...
It was a terrible blow for sure, but they had several great seasons, beginning with '94. They got tired of Nascar always having to help the GM cars keep up, thus the end of the bodies matching the stock cars.
stop putting the winner in the description!!!!!!!!!!!
Way to cause a huge wreck Sterling. Don’t you dare lift a little to avoid it. Just like with Dale
The day Gary Nelson took his new job for92 was the beginning of the end of nascar
If Gary Nelson was the equalizer then why did, HOW C oULD the horsepower under Allison’s hood be sooo dominant all year
Earnhardt finished 9th and never lost another lap the rest of the race with a wrecked car.
Would people look at the 92 season differently if marlin was the top dog instead of Elliot. Just a thought.
nascar died with earnhardt and countless lehends like him and allison
It was going down hill before earnhardt died....so get the bs out of your head
