  • Before you decide to file a patent, you need to do market research. Doing market research before you decide to invest in getting a patent is crucial, actually - otherwise, you are very likely to end up wasting your time, energy, and money on a patent application that goes nowhere. Remember: Most patents never make any money at all. So, how should you conduct this market research? What should you search for? What tools can you use to help you?
inventRight cofounder Andrew Krauss interviews Steve Hafif, CEO of Cypris, a new marketplace and search engine for patents. Because Steve has some unique and different angles on how inventors can and should approach doing market research, we had to have him on to share them with you! Steve's unique buy + sell patent website also includes research tools. Check out his company at ipcypris.com.

Q: How about simply assigning/selling off your patent to a company instead of licensing its use? I'd first do the provisional, of course, and then if a company liked it, tell them that they could pay for the non-provisional and have it assigned to them right away.
I just don't wanna deal with long-term time commitments associated with licensing like lawyer appointments, renegotiations, market research, accounting, etc.
    Thanks
