Keep us posted about the Phuket investment. I bought a condo in Kamala beach in 2019 that was supposed to be ready a few months after and never got finished. The developer (Blue Horizon) ran to Panama with all investors money. Best Western was also involved.
Oh wow, that's so unfortunate :( Yes, such cases happen in Thailand and Indonesia. You should be careful when choosing a developer. As for the guys from Layan Green Park, I'm 100% confident in them! My condo is nearly complete. The grand opening is in just two months.
I feel you. Sorry for your loss. Covid times fucked up a lot of developers companies. And criminals in Thailand are so high that you can always bribe the police to run away with money. (

Yes, agree. I’d love to see a more in-depth and longer interview with Michael, there is so much to learn from him, his business sense, his attitude to life….. his father and grandfather were also successful business people and gave good advice.
Good information and interview Max ! It would have been nice however to zoom in on his father’s beginnings ie: what kind of shop? Service ? Product did his father start off with his successful business in Australia ? Otherwise very nice job.

You learn everyday something new, like shophouse in Singapore has a 999 year lease.Gosh, I used to be a used car dealer and learn to solve one car at a time lol . Invest in something tangible that generate income.
The Spotify seed round offer - Michael shouldn't beat himself up about missing that. $1m seed is a lot of cash if it represents a significant portion of your portfolio and as he said "it's a bit much". He's a smart man to not take that offer because in an alternate universe, Spotify could have gone to zero. I'd once more push back on his idea of putting capital into property. As an asset class, it's not as liquid as owning equity in businesses via the stock market. He could run a simple rate of return calculation on his property portfolio via the S&P 500. I'm curious to see if his properties returned more than just investing in the market.

200k USD for a 1 bedder over at Phuket is absurd even with the assume ROI. Aside from being a tourist spot there is not much concrete infrastructure development for the island. Just because this guy you interview is well off doesn't means he is always right with his investments. How do you buy a property as a foreigner in Phuket? Is it straight forward or you have to do all kinds of stuff like in Bali?
For a foreigner, you can choose leasehold for 90 years or freahold. Pretty straightforward. Not like Bali
You pay a heap of under the table cash to the then chief of Phuket immigration and acquire Thai nationality and the passport. That's how he did it.
