I have this lens. Absolutely a wonderful lens to have! However. Price. If you can get it bundled with a body in a kit, get it! But if you already own the cheaper version, I don't think its worth the retail cost to upgrade even with a minor sale price. I'd hate to have to replace this lens in the event off...
I tested the Lecia 12-60mm f2.8-4 at 16mm vs the Sig 16 f1.4 both at f4 and they are identical. I cant tell the difference! Lecia 12-60mm vs Oly 40-150mm f2.8. At 60mm at f8 and the Lecia destroys the Oly!
Really looking forward to the comparison. I looked for lenses that can replace my 12-60 kit lens for quite a while, but honestly, I am in the bahamas right now and the photos the kit lenses took are blowing my mind 😁
Would've been nice to have a comparison between the Leica VS Lumix 12-60mm. The Lumix is a much cheaper lens, but also features weathersealing and OIS. The Leica prime lenses have a distinct character, but I do not really see it back that much with these zoom lenses. The Lumix is actually amazing value for the price. So that raises the question... is the slight advantage in sensitivity and image quality worth hundreds of bucks more? Personally... I'm not sure.
curious, all the pics you show in your video. are they all RAW files processed in Camera Raw, or are they JPEGs that came out from G9 with auto settings? they all look amazing!
I enjoy your videos a lot. How would you compare the image quality overall of the 12 to 60 Leica on a G9 versus the Sony A6400 with the 18-135? The price of these combos is about the same here where I live. Thanks.
I either use these quick release plates bit.ly/2qy2FHB but those are not arca swiss compatible or I use plates that come with ballhead bit.ly/2F3rVc7 those are arca swiss compatible. This gorillapod works works well amzn.to/2BFL95l but at the moment I prefer to use Manfrotto PIXI EVO amzn.to/2BGo2L
I had broke my lens and had to replace it asap. This is my 3rd comment on this lens, there is a reason for that. Its that good if you use it to its strengths. One of the features I even overlooked, or got used to was the digital parfocalness. To be able to see my focus, switch it to manual to 'lock it', change my zoom, change my settings, shoot different modes, put on a 10stop ND, and still keep my focus. I can't do that with any of my other lens. This is very important to me when shooting in the dark as I have to do one thing to set my focus, and change it up to take the shot. With my other lens I have had to use while I was getting it replaced, I was coming home with way more out of focus shots, and shots I could not have gotten that I knew I could have gotten with the 12-60mm.
Thanks for a great review video! I had a question about the zoom behavior at F4 and above. Through the zoom range, can you see exposure "popping" as the aperture adjusts throughout the range, or is it smooth throughout? It's a little hard for me to tell from the zoom examples provided in the video. Thank you!
@@TheHybridShooter hmm. Consider the fact that perhaps it only closes to, say 3.5 at 35mm, then you can treat it as a constant f3.5 from 12-35 instead of 12-35 f2.8, but then you still have the option of 12-60 constant f4 if you need. I think this lens is better, especially since the parafocality.
@@thatsreallyamoon No, it is F3.5 at around 21mm. If you want any sort of low light performance and work with DoF, every bit of aperture helps on M43, so I still recommend 12-35.
@@TheHybridShooter ah okay. I guess it's mostly preference so the guy would have had to decide for himself. To me, the huge zoom range is more useful than low light. If I wanted lowlight, I would use primes haha. So yeah, for me the compromise is to give up light before zoom. And you prefer less zoom but better light and shallower DoF 👍
I have Olympus body while my three main lenses are M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2,8, Lumix Vario GX 35-100 f2,8 II and Leica DG Summilux 25mm F1,4 II. I am looking for backup and travel lens - eg. lens with extended zoom range, which can cover both of my zooms in case they will need repair or in case i will be restricted to single lens only. I take photos on concerts, in clubs and if you know Gangy Prešporku. I need that kind of water resistance and something that wont go below F4,0. I can take slightly more expensive M.Zuiko 12-100mm F4. Its twice as heavy, twice as big, and 1/3 more expensive than this Leica. IS is not much of a factor, because i already have 5,5 stops IBIS, distortion as well not a problem - this lens has lower distortion without correction than 12-40 with correction. Chromatic aberration and fringing... With Summilux i found a way how to reduce it with UV filter.
Dual IS still a makes a difference even with 6.5 EV IBIS, it is definitely worth trying. I would probably go with Oly 12-100 in your situation, although it is pretty bad value.
The inner barrel of my example seems just a little 'loose' at the 12mm end (perfectly tight at 60mm, though - oddly enough) - which always struck me as a bit disconcerting given how nice the feel of it is in every other respect. Did you notice any movement in the inner barrel at the wide end of the zoom range?
The Hybrid Shooter what would you recommend? I'd have the sigma 16mm 1.4 for low light. I would just use the other lens to get day light travel shots. I was also deciding between the Canon 24-70 mm with speedbooster for the g9.

Hi. Just bought this lens with g9. I notice that in APC mode when I press focus button half way down the preview image is really flickering and shaking. The photo is clear but the preview while composing is really bad. I don't remember that when I had my GH5. Do you have the sam issue? Is it normal or my lens is bad copy? Thank you.
It is issue of the camera, not the lens, it is unfortunately normal on G9. Make sure that you have the latest FW installed.

I'm about to buy this lens but there there is one thing holding me back - zoom capabilities. Can you confirm that with f2.8, the exposure change is gradual and not jumpy when zooming in/out though the whole zoom range? Also does exposure hold still when aperture is set to f4 and higher? Thanks in advance! Also great work, I love your channel.
The Hybrid Shooter yes that would be great thanks - there seems to be a dramatic difference to the continuous AF - I was wondering if it could be used on the G9 or G80 or if it's just confined to the GH5 .
Is there a way to adjust the focus ring (inside the Panasonic G9), so you don't need to turn it full way around to focus from far away to close? I need to make smaller adjustments, because of an external focus motor from my gimbal
No, exposure values are same regardless of sensor size, with same settings exposure is the same on FF and MFT, because every sensor is set to provide same exposure at given ISO. Aperture only needs to be multiplied for depth of field and amount of noise but that is complicated topic.
No it wouldn't because F stops are logarithmic. There si no reason why you should be concerned by these old rules, since every camera has internal metering nowadays.
I got mine today and found it's not parfocal. Focus changes when I zoom in manual focus mode. I use G80 body. But that shouldn't affect the result. When I use switch to the autofocus it does stick on the subject as if it's parfocal.
I find many people say it's not true parfocal. The camera compensate the focal distance when you zoom. I can't believe they make a true parfocal lenses at this price. Evan Many Fuji professional zoom cinema lenses are sub parfocal.
