There's a short interview clip with Harley Race, where he said that he warned Brody before he went to Puerto Rico. He said that he told Brody that if he doesn't change his attitude and the way that he does his business that he won't leave Puerto Rico alive. This clip was in RUclips. I don't know if it still is or not.
Another factor is that supposedly, Gonzalez's child had died just 3 days before this whole thing took place. And some believe that he was consumed with both grief and rage.
Still...... while all of this is very tragic, and we truly lost a great wrestler and entertainer, we cannot take away from the fact that Brody wasn't a saint. He had a reputation of rubbing people the wrong way. Unfortunately, it caught up with him.

As a Puerto Rican myself, I am hugely interested in this topic. I really want to learn more. Also, when it comes to the popularity of wrestling here on the island, it has diminished a lot, but it's not completely gone. WWC shows are not that popular but still get attendance. They get more attemdance than few indie shows. When WWE comes, they almost sell out the venue. Last time they came, they filled 95% of the Coliseo de Puerto Rico. So yes, popularity did take a massive hit, but it has not completely diminished

The Onita thing goes deeper than WC said. Supposedly Onita wanted to get Gonzales out there because he hired a Yakuza hit on him for what happened to Brody

Do not bully others. If you think that this is a message directed towards Brody's behavior than you obviously think that he was a bully

Prototype Lesnar? no way Lesnar's more like Backlund on steroids. Brody was like a prototype Kane. That shit back in the day when Kane would snap and start attacking every body, that was classic Brody.

What does it say about Brody that with as popular as wrestling was in 88 he was in Puerto Rico not the Wwf, nwa, awa, world class, or japan

I'm puertorrican and to me is Embarrasing and feel disgusted by the way Jose Gonzalez got away with this, and also how people who saw what happened never testified even more ended going back to work in that promotion years later

Mano!

As much as I love Rusev and appreciate what you're trying to do, I don't think it's appropriate for this case.

I saw the whole thing unfold and it was a giant mess. To tell you the truth, the invader number aka José González, was protected by Carlos colón (yeah, of those colóns) and others. Puerto Rican wrestling was a shadow of what once had. Before it happened, Puerto Rico was on par with Japan and Mexico and the United States. After, no one wanted to come over to do anything. It wasn't until savio vega and Hugo zavinovich joined the wwe that Puerto Rico didn't do anything wrestlingwise# and even still, it is not even close to what is was before. I hated every minute of it and I am still angry at the invader.

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but how could a guy as large as Bruiser not be able to defend himself against a guy half his size, even if that guy had a knife?
