    I love when you draw from a reference photo because that's what I use for all of my drawings....Also, my favorite sketchbook is "U Create", the spiral-bound black sketchbooks that are sold at Walmart (in the stationary/school supplies aisle). It's the only one that really works for me 😅

    Hello. Great work! Love it. I had a question as a beginner: I thought the guidelines might have some perspective with a vanishing point to be ok with the perspective. It seems to be parallel in your tutorial. Am I wrong?

    • @emmykalia
      @emmykalia  10 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you. Yes, you can also imagine a cube around the head and the guidelines will follow the same angle as the cube. Because the vanishing point is very far the lines are almost parallel. I draw the guidelines on the reference parallel because then it’s easier to draw them for the sketch. You can analyze each reference photo by drawing guidelines and checking the angles

    My drawings are always so smudged and blotchy. Any tips on how to keep them light and smooth? I start light but they always get so dark so quickly

    • @emmykalia
      @emmykalia  3 месяца назад +2

      Which pencils do you use? Or maybe you smudge with a dirty blending stump?

    • @MS-sq3ur
      @MS-sq3ur 3 месяца назад +1

      Rough sketch with 4h, then usually a 2h or hb to start shading. I use stumps and brushes to smooth the blending but within minutes it’s blotchy. I try to clean brushes but not so much the stump

      I had a male figure / portrait teacher once tell me that women are far better at drawing women and men drawing men. He said women have a tendency to draw men feminine and men draw women masculine. He was right on my account all my men did seem to look feminine so there was probably some truth to that. This teacher did fashion illustrations as a profession for newspapers back in the day and his women figures definitely had a masculine edge. I am a woman and I prefer drawing women. Children are very difficult not to make them look old. They have larger eyes in comparison to adults. I think Emmy is an amazing artist and I really appreciate her talent and her videos.
