I typed in "slow cooker soup" and this was the first option that came up. It seems I have stumbled onto a goldmine of easy, delicious recipes courtesy of theonepotchef! Thank you sir!
Made a version of this recently, used 2 cups each of the soup mix, some cheap frozen veggies, 1.5L vegetable stock and added a cup of shredded ham at the end. 4 big servings and 1 small "taster" serve. Cost was only $3.50 australian. Perfect Simple Basic Bachelor meal.
@zub1964 Slow Cookers use a fraction of the electricity of an oven or stovetop, making them very economical to use. Food doesn't stick to the pot because the food is cooked at a low temperature (compared to an oven etc) so it's gently simmering away :)
I bought a bag of pinto beans once to put in slow cooker chili. I didn't soak them over night and even though I left cooking in slow cooker for a long time, they never did fully cook. I started soaking them after that. I think it varies with the type you buy. The recipe you made on this video looks very good and it's easy! Thanks for posting it!
Slow cookers are single handedly the best tool for someone on a budget who still wants flavor in his meals. I LOVE mine. I can't believe how useful they are.. I have no idea how I was surviving before I got it. This recipe is very simple but looks absolutely delicious. I'm at work now.. going to be home in an hour, then I will dig into this bad boy!
Looks very tasty and also, very affordable too! In these hard financial times, my husband and I are always looking for good, wholesome recipes to cut down on the food budget. This is just great! Thanks!
I just told my son, im going to go to one pot chef, he is really nice and does awesome easy inexpensive meals....maybe he has a crockpot winter soup.....and whammmm, here you are...never disappoinr....exactly what i want.....THANK YOU!
Hi there, I made this soup yesterday. It was my first ever meal in a crock pot. And the result was wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. And especially for a newbie like me it was very easy and fun to make. The only thing I didn’t understand was the shredded boiled chicken that was in the recipe but I didn’t noticed put in the soup. I looked it up how to make the chicken and found a great video by Marsha Eilleen on RUclips. Again, thanks and I recommend this fantastic soup to everyone, and not only in the winter 😊
David - I made the soup this morning & it is delicious!! I made quite a big batch so I will be delivering to family later today. Looking forward to getting my copy of your cookbook. Take care
@OneFeistyScorpio Getting a slow cooker is a great money saver (and time saver) - you can cook a big batch of something, eat some and freeze the rest for later. Plus there is very little effort - that's a bonus!
Hey there Handsome, I make slow cooker soup to, it's so nice to throw a few good veggies in to a crock pot let it cook all day and when your ready it's ready too. I love to use something like a chuck roast for this, but my favorite thing to do is use V-8 cocktail juice instead of beef stock. Stewed tomatoes and it makes lovely broth and taste amazing. I wish you'd try this. I know you'd love it as much as I do. I love your show.. keep sending the USA your lovely recipes. Please. Thank you for your time. I enjoy watching you do your thing ,cooking.!
A crock pot lid is usually fairly loose. The weight of it is usually enough to keep it down, but it may lightly rattle sometimes as steam pressure builds up during cooking ;)
@koabarra I find adding cooked chicken (such as left over shredded roast chicken) is easier. Otherwise you could cook a chicken breast and shred it up or chop it up (depending on if you want large chunks or not) ;)
I decided to use my slow cooker today, after years of not using it. I am making a hearty vegetable soup and wanted to know how many hours it required cooking. Your video was the first one shown. I put mine to cook on high this evening, so it should finish in about 3/4 hours. In the past, I have watched your videos back to back and enjoyed all of them.
Hi thank you One 'croc' Pot Chef - I am an old pro at making soup, and about to try using the crock pot for first time - have to say I was glad it was you whose demo came up first on my search - with you no dithering about so 'off to get started'. Oh and I know its not winter - thanks
ive made a stew up and set it to low just before bed and had a lovely stew for dinner the next day.this was approx 11 hours so you would be fine leaving it while you went to work.
@MrsTillyBattersby You can put cooked chicken (or raw chicken) in at the same time as everything else. The advantage to slow cooking is it's very hard to overcook things ;)
This will definitely be a recipe I need to try! I made the pea and ham soup and it turned out beautiful. Thank you for sharing this with us! looking forward to making it !!
I just discovered your channel and love love love it. I bought a new Sunbeam slow cooker recently when my old crockpot had to be replaced. But, my Crockpot recipe book didn't inspire me. Your recipes are so easy and look so good. I will be following you this Winter here in Australia. Please more slow cooker recipes! Thanks.
This looks amazing!!! I'm going to get some lentils and put some of this soup on before I go to bed so tomorrows lunch will be devine!!!! I'm in love with you! hahah.
I been following your recipes for years you make everything soo easy. You really deserve more followers than you have! Keep them recipes coming please 😊
@Ruth42 I've never noticed much difference. The advantage to slow cooking is the ability to avoid all the extra pre cooking and just chuck everything into one pot ;)
Thank you One Pot Chef! It's mins to 3 and I'm going to make this now.. don't have a crock pot so I'll be doing it the old-fashioned way... I had no idea you can use barley in soup..lol I will try
Making this today and it is absolutely smelling gorgeous. Just going to shops to buy some Crusty Bread. Thankyou for this recipe. Had my Cooker for years. Even made a roast Dinner a month ago and couldn't believe the results. :)
I have the SAME slow cooker! In fact this particular video had me running to make vegetable soup, although a variation but still! I've been watching lots of your videos recently too. Good stuff!
@DrSunnz Essentially, you take the left over bones etc from a roast chicken and cover them with water in a pot. Season with salt, pepper and some herbs (rosemary is good) and boil for about 30 minutes. Once the stock has cooled, remove the bones, skim the fat off the top and strain the stock with a sieve (to remove any smaller bone pieces) Use immediately or freeze for future use ;)
I have always wanted to get a slow cooker, I think you might have just persuaded me ! How economical are they to use , as opposed to cooking in a pot on top of the stove ? Doesn't the food ever stick if you don't stir it every so often ? This looks really good !
mmmmmmm I think I'm going to make this in the morning for supper ❤ this looks amazing!! you need to put your recipes in a book! I would buy that in a heart beet!! I work at a coles (Canadian book company indago) i need all your recipes!!!!! your so fantastic!! I need a recipe book from the one pot chef!!!!!!!
Yummmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I LOVE WINTER SOUP!!!! It looks so delicious! I agree with you 100% about slow cookers - they're the best ever.

In my mind, soup cannot be replaced as the perfect food. Easy to prepare, cheap, and nutritious. No real clean up either.
I typed in "slow cooker soup" and this was the first option that came up. It seems I have stumbled onto a goldmine of easy, delicious recipes courtesy of theonepotchef! Thank you sir!
Love your recipes
You have. This guy is terrific. Easy, successful recipes, explained clearly and pleasantly. A+
This guy is great!!!
Kube Dog k
Easy to whip up, delicious recipes is what most of us are looking for. Wonderful!
If doing this on the stove, bring the soup to the boil , then reduce the temperature to low and let it simmer until the vegetables are tender ;)
You are seriously becoming one of my favorite chefs here on RUclips. Your recipes are so good and so simple!
Probably the best site for a retired person`s bachelor-life slow cooking.... Thanks!!
Amen brother. Mid 70s retired on Gulf Coast of florida

I found that you need some fat in vegetable soup to give it flavor. So i add some soup bones at the start. You can buy them at the Supermarket

@ZivEstVeritas You can eat this anytime you like, I just called it "winter" as I used vegetables that are commonly available in winter ;)
@gcarped I don't have one on hand, but I'll see if I can find one ;)
@dudeitsjorrelios Thanks - glad you liked it :)
@OneFeistyScorpio Getting a slow cooker is a great money saver (and time saver) - you can cook a big batch of something, eat some and freeze the rest for later. Plus there is very little effort - that's a bonus!

@johngillies13 It's very much like a "stoup" - it's very thick and chunky. Give it a go ;)

@DrSunnz Essentially, you take the left over bones etc from a roast chicken and cover them with water in a pot. Season with salt, pepper and some herbs (rosemary is good) and boil for about 30 minutes.
