- Zapdos, following Articuno, has debut in Dynamax Legendary Battle.
Dynamax Zapdos is an Electric/Flying type Pokemon, which is only weak against Ice/Rock type moves. Similar to Dynamax Articuno, its precise stats is unknown, while we believe it has 0.7 CPM with a hidden 2x attack multiplier, shared with Dynamax Articuno. So far, there is no investigation on its HP yet, we can only make a approximation that it is around 12k HP, which is notably lower than Dynamax Articuno's 17.5k.
Once again, Dynamax Zapdos will pick 2 charged moves from its entire movepool as a Max Battle Boss. It would pick one of Zap Cannon/Drill Peck/Thunder/Thunderbolt/Ancient Power as LARGE MOVE and another one as targeted move.
The lack of Rock-type Dynamax Pokemon had already posed a challenge on Dynamax Articuno, but it even escalated on Dynamax Zapdos. Apart from Rock-type, its only weakness is Ice-type, where Dynamax Articuno, Dynamax Cryogonal and Gigantamax Lapras are the only 3 Pokemon with access to Ice-type Max Moves. Unfortunately, none of them are particularly good at offense.
Thankfully, in defense side, Excadrill double resist 4 out of 5 of Dynamax Zapdos' charged move. Even more, it has access to 0.5s fast move, Metal Claw and Mud Shot, as well as a Rock-type charged move, Rock Slide. These make it the best tank against Dynamax Zapdos uncontested.
With Ice-type being rather underwhelming in general, we tried to avoid investing them. Instead, we will use the generalist attacker Dynamax Gengar, which has the higher base attack out of all Dynamax Pokemon released so far.
This time, Dynamax Excadrill and Dynamax Gengar will fight together against Ancient Power/Thunder Dynamax Zapdos as a Solo Battle without weatherboost by utilizing Max Mushroom.
We had avoided using charged move against Dynamax Articuno because Gigantamax Lapras hardly deal any meaningful damage against it. However, our tank this time, Dynamax Excadrill, has access to a super-effective charged move. As such, it is still better to let Dynamax Excadrill use Rock Slide. However, we have to count our Rock Slide usage carefully such that it won't give Dynamax Zapdos opportunity to use an extra charged move.
With careful usage of charged moves, the team has barely defeated Dynamax Zapdos at the end.
