Gigantamax Kingler made its debut in Max Battle Day in Season: Dual Destiny.
Gigantamax Kingler is a Water type Pokemon, which is weak against Grass/Electric moves. Similar as before, until core members of the raid mechanics research team has conduct testing, precise stats of Gigantamax Kingler remains to be unknown. Based on our experience throughout the event, we would estimate Gigantamax Kingler with the same CPM as Gigantamax Lapras but with 105k HP. Which is around 1/6 more than Lapras (90k HP).
Gigantamax Kingler as a Max Battle Boss learns every charged moves it can learn in the past. However, Kingler has no legacy or excluvie move, so it will use moves that it can learn normally this time. It will use one of Vice Grip/X-Scissor/Crabhammer/Water Pulse/Razor Shell as LARGE ATTACK and a remaining move as TARGET ATTACK.
Kingler is known as a budget Water-type raid attacker in normal raid, thanks for its decent attack stats and its powerful Crabhammer. While charged move has less influence to a Pokemon performance in Max Battle (due to the more powerful Max Moves), Gigantamax Kingler is the most powerful Water-type Pokemon in Max Battle released so far.
Kingler is also known as a "glass cannon". However, that does not applies when it is a Gigantamax Battle Boss. As opposed to Lapras, which has high HP and low defense, Kingler has low HP and high defense instead. With HP stat being overridden, as a Max Battle Boss, Gigantamax Kingler is in fact more difficult than Gigantamax Lapras with its higher defense stat.
In terms of offense, sarcastically, as a Max Battle Boss, Gigantamax Kingler does not hits particularly hard. In fact, it hits arguably lighter than Gigantamax Lapras, due to all its moves having moderate to low base power. Crabhammer, its strongest charged move, has 85 base power, and it is also the one to be aware of.
Water-type and Grass-type would be a good tank against Gigantamax Kingler with their resistance against Crabhammer. In fact, even when they don't resist X-Scissor/Vice Grip, Crabhammer still hits harder than those coverage moves. Gigantamax Lapras and Blastoise would once again be an excellent tank against this boss. Since Gigantamax Kingler does not learn any Ice-type move, Gigantamax Venusaur can also perform well as tank this time.
At last, we would like to talk about an ongoing raid issue. Some of you might have already aware, if you Mega Evolved another Pokemon in raid lobby, you can use 2 Mega Evolved Pokemon in raid. Interestingly, the glitched Mega Evolution (the one who was supposed to be replaced) would bypass the check when entering Max Battles. Which means, by using the double Mega Evolution glitch, you can use a Mega Evolution in there.
This glitched Mega Evolution would perform exactly the same as it is in raid battle, it would have higher stats and providing Mega Boost to its teammate. This time, we will use Mega Gengar against Gigantamax Kingler. With its high stats and Mega Boosted G-Max Terror, it is stronger than most super-effective counters except Gigantamax Mega Venusaur's G-Max Vine Lash.
Gengar as a Ghost/Poison type would double resist Gigantamax Kingler's X-Scissor/Vice Grip. However, there is only 10% chance to encounter that exact combination. Unfortunately, the glitched Mega Evolution does not stays long, so they cannot afford heavy move resetting for a favorable moveset. As such, we would continue using Gigantamax Lapras as the tank for this battle.
Even with Mega Gengar's overwhelming power, they cannot defeat Gigantamax Kingler before it enrages. Since Mega Gengar can barely defeat Gigantamax Kingler before the time limit, it is not feasible to spare any Max Phase for Gigantamax Lapras to setup defenses. As a result, Mega Gengar might requires to tank a few charged moves from Gigantamax Kingler in order to defeat it. So, it is preferable to have a Gigantamax Kingler using Vice Grip or X-Scissor as its LARGE ATTACK.
Sarcastically, the first such Gigantamax Kingler we had found was precisely using the most favorable moveset, Vice Grip/X-Scissor. Since there is 4 Pokemon fighting simultaneously this time on a Gigantamax Battle Boss, charged move is ineffective and we would once again using only fast moves. At last, Gigantamax Mega Gengar has defeated Gigantamax Kingler barely after it has enraged.
