Wands, books, antique alchemy bottles. Lovecraftian items. I actually have some questions Steffi. If my building has a bunch of tight restrictions how do I get around those for my decor? Also, How can I blend my love for mecha and sci-fi prop items without those looking too tacky in my decor?
Dark academia is truly one of my favorite aesthetics. I am drawn to black and dark color palettes. I am also a scientist and college professor. So… literally this is “me”. 🐈⬛📚🥀
I’m truly in love with Baroque Dark Academia. Always have been. There is a coziness that comes from it for me, and a life beyond the “normal” types of decor. I also love the vibe of your room. The couch against the mural, with the lighting is so cool. ❤
I’m so stoked you’re covering Dark Academia! I’m such a fan of your beautiful style. I’m glad you address the misconception about dark colors shrinking a space, and the comparison of the night sky. I find it add depth as well! 🖤
Yay another dark academia video, thanks for sharing 🌚 Always good to see when you pop up in the feed ✨ Totally agree on dark being expansive, especially if the room doesn't have tons of natual light, leaning into the darker tones can really transform a small, dim room.
Hello Steffi, I love and decorate in dark academia, I'm a big fan of Abigail Ahern and I'm also happy I get to enjoy the moody rainy weather of Seattle. Awesome video, Thank you for sharing 🌿🖤
Hey Steffi! How are u? One question: i loved the final result! This particular It would fit in a men's apartment? Idk if i would do an entire decor with this style, but i liked some ideas. Some video ideas: ideas for decor with vintage/ retro itens. Small apartment with goth decor.
I've been searching for a video like this. I love it!. I live my myself in a apartment small actually and this is just what i needed. And this is truly Dark Academia🖤
Would you consider doing a video on how to combine distinct design styles? I'm moving in with my partner and they're a minimalist who likes light palettes ;-; complete opposites
@@MsIlovemusic07 tbh it's not so much the light pastels that throw me off, it's the minimalism. They're like.... kinda Ikea-core. I appreciate u trying to give me hope tho lol.
Been doing this for years. We lived in a very HOT climate and I endeavored to decorate to make the house feel cozy and cool. Had no idea it was a thing! Nice!
could you do a video about balconys? I want a moody combination of plants, privacy for sitting down and still some light for my living room while not being allowed to damage the outdoor walls.
That's a great topic for her next video! I love it. Looking for ideas myself. I still want sunlight in but the harsh noontime sun is to hot! Maybe a screen? I'm definitely looking for stuff. Also, lots of sun loving plants too.
I went to an old school built in the 20s and it had built in bookshelves and beautiful old wooden floor that were really dark due to not only the wood but decades of waxing. It was something else.
I've been trying to incorporate dark academy into my new apartment and this helped a lot. It's funny that the One Piece pillow actually matched with the look.
I love the dark academia style most of all 🥰. I have 3 very dark grey walls in my bedroom and intend to paper the last wall in something similar to the design you showed with the black background, but I don’t know what to do with the ceiling. It’s white atm but needs to change, do you think I should I use the wall colour on the ceiling as well?
I’m a retired equestrian who loves gothic flare so I think this style would be a great way to use some of my horsey memorabilia without going to the farmhouse/cottage core style. However I like a lot of natural light and think my space would be better suited for light Acadamia. Do you have any advice on light Acadamia?
I’ve seen some preppy/equestrian/old money rooms that look nice. Many of them have plaid fabric like throw pillows or comforters. My mom is an equestrian. She has lots of old inherited antique colonial furniture (grandfather clock, chairs, etc) paintings of horses, oriental rugs, a hall stand in the foyer to hang all her horsey stuff and put umbrellas etc. Just do what YOU like. Pintrest can help for inspiration and finding out what you like.
Thank you Steffi. really love the vintage sleeper sofa, however, would love it NOT to be a sleeper sofa as I would like it in my family room, do you know if they offer it? I couldn't find it at Wayfair. Thanks again. Cheers
People are going to do what they want with their things but I will say that I think painting old vintage furniture is quite upsetting. Furniture isn't really made that way anymore, so what we have left is what we have. Instead of ruining a perfectly good, timeless, beautiful piece of history, consider painting over something from Target or Ikea for example.
Agreed. Even furniture from the Great Depression was made to highlight the beauty of the wood and details which are lost under paint. At the very least, DIYers can change the look yet preserve the character by applying a darker stain or antiquing wax.
Yes, but there’s enough of it in the world that it shouldn’t affect you that much and if you prefer something else, you really aren’t gonna live that long so do what you want with the furniture that you own and then the people who come after you will either throw it away or strip it or keep it the same or painted a different color
DeathNote! I am considering converting a spare 10x10 room into a dark academia office space. One wall is almost fully exposed brick. Any tips/ideas on what to do with brick in a dark academia decor?
Hi! All the items featured are in a link the description. I'll paste it here for you too! 😊 www.modamisfit.com/modamisfitblog/dark-academia-decor-in-a-small-bedroom
Dark colors especially on walls do in fact, make a space seem smaller, but I take your point that other things also factor into it, such as availability and/or volume of natural light along with scale, furniture placement and general cohesion of all the elements.
I think a lot of your style and what you discussed in this video is more gothic romance with Victorian goth elements rather than Dark Academic. Dark academia is more Harry Potter movies minus the magic element and more like Sherlock Holmes aesthetic.
So basically "Dark Academia" is just old classical traditional vintage decor with a somber look... You college folks love to make stuff up and be in your own little world 😅🤣 just call the decor style what it really is. Don't replace the names. smh...
Jimmy94411 exactly! When I first heard "Dark Academia" I was like is it new designs...Nope just regular old vintage dark decor. Just call it by the actual decor style name. Don't replace all the original vintage style names loose the identity with a new foolish name. I'm sure this was made up by some silly college girls what a dumb idea.
So faux Goth totally bought at Wayfair unless you want to spend mega bucks on something that Will last past the current trend of Dark (fill in the blank). Smfh.
Thank you for watching! Do you incorporate any dark academia style elements in your space? How so? 🖤

I have a bust!
@ModaMisfit, where did you find that Medusa Bust? I'd love to get one!
Is there a link for the Medusa bust/planter?

Me too, it is challenging to do now I live in Australia!
Just recently painted my old china hutch black and it turned out so pretty!
Would love to see...I have one I'm thinking about painting black

I really love this style of video! Keep them coming!🎉
Can you do this same concept (dark academia) but in a larger room? Mainly because I want to know how to fill up empty spaces

Abigail is the coolest
Gorgeous, Moody, Dramatic, Dreamy 🤎💛🖤
I love Deco/Hollywood glam mixed with a bit of darker touches like in the show the Golden Age.

There’s a style called “light academia”.

I Love dark green and dark black 🖤 in my bedroom and living room and kitchen
Always wait your vidio, and hope you upload everyweek... Really enjoy it...
Thank you!! I'm hoping to get back to the consistent weekly schedule. 😊 Just need to figure out how to balance everything!
Love your videos ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful styling! Is there a way to blend different dark decor? From the dark acadamia, dark woodsy/fairy, dark cottage core etc.
They are all very similar so it shouldn't be hard as they complement each other

A Ralph lauren look would work

Hi Steffi! Loved his video on Dark Academia! Although not my style, some of the pieces shown were quite striking!
Yeah dark academia definitely is a striking statement!
I really like this! I'd love to try this in my very small and cluttered bedroom! If I do, I will let you know!
Yay please do!

Vintage furniture looks amazingly beautiful painted in unexpected colors.
I cringe when I watch a beautiful piece of furniture of good wood painted over. Just awful.
Yes, but there’s enough of it in the world that it shouldn’t affect you that much and if you prefer something else, you really aren’t gonna live that long so do what you want with the furniture that you own and then the people who come after you will either throw it away or strip it or keep it the same or painted a different color
Of course people are gonna (sic) do what they want with what they own. But don't pretend there's a glut of fine furniture everywhere.
I live in a vintage 23-foot motorhome, and can attest to the value of well-placed mirrors in giving the impression of more space.
Wow, I never knew that’s what this is called. Where can I purchase that dark olive green velvet looking comforter on the bed from? TFS!!
hey can you make a video about how can we achieve a dark academia look with light furniture (but not light academia) thanks xx
I NEED TO KNOW where your black necklace(s) are from!!!
I love this! I'm a bit obsessed with the rug you found, where can I find it? 😅
I think these designs are amazing. I've done this before. My boyfriend doesn't like it though. So what does one do?
DeathNote! I am considering converting a spare 10x10 room into a dark academia office space. One wall is almost fully exposed brick. Any tips/ideas on what to do with brick in a dark academia decor?
I actually think exposed brick would be beautiful with dark academia styling!
What is the Etsy shop for the wallpaper panels? Thanks!

It may be worth noting that busts are particularly fitting if they are pallid ones of Pallas.
Sure! As long as they fit in with the palette!
My studio is small i want this in my bedroom and flowing through out .. can you shoe that
What is the best way to get the dark when you can't paint
Maybe use peel and stick wallpaper
Looks nice, but I'm afraid I would have nightmares in dark academia bedroom. 🤭
"The joys of living alone." I guess I've been away for a while
I think it's easier to decorate small spaces. You don't need much to make them look dramatic.
I think a lot of your style and what you discussed in this video is more gothic romance with Victorian goth elements rather than Dark Academic. Dark academia is more Harry Potter movies minus the magic element and more like Sherlock Holmes aesthetic.
Agree! Academia would call for a greater emphasis on books, globes, maps, old clocks, typewriters, balance scales, etc.
Lots of tall bookshelves
Huh, I guess I'm more dark academia than dark cottagecore. They do have plenty in the common.
I love dark academia.I am gradually turning my Bedroom into one. My number one word to describe this type of style is "SEXY"
That head is Medusa. In case anyone was wondering…..
So basically "Dark Academia" is just old classical traditional vintage decor with a somber look... You college folks love to make stuff up and be in your own little world 😅🤣 just call the decor style what it really is. Don't replace the names. smh...

I hate the stupid trend of renaming old styles with cutesy names and pretending it’s a new thing.
