I think that would be a fun idea. However, it's important to note that here in New Orleans, we have a wide array of styles. Yes, there's the French influence from the French occupation of New Orleans, but there's also Spanish influence from when Spain has control over the territory for a time, and then back to the French. And under the Louisiana purchase occurred, our architecture took a noticing shift into a more American Colonial style. So the question would be, which time period within New Orleans history would you want to look at for style inspiration? Or would it be a more modern take which includes elements of each? A great example of how varied New Orleans style is would be to look at how different the French Quarter, the Garden District, Mid City, and 7th Ward all are. Each neighborhood is in New Orleans, but each has a distinct style based on city expansion and time period influence.
Wow this is super helpful insight! I'll definitely be coming back to this comment when I eventually do a video about Southern Gothic/New Orleans design!
I love the dark academia style. I want that for my home office, but it's too dark for my living room, so the idea of the French Parisian design is perfect. Thank you so much for sharing. Greetings from Chile, South America.
Steffi, you have piqued my curiosity as to what you do when you're not making your wonderful videos. You're absolutely adorable, well spoken and you really capture one's attention. Oh, and I almost forgot, so knowledgeable. You're a sweet delight to watch. Thank you very much for the amazing videos. Everyone should want to sponsor your work. 😊
@ModaMisfit Just keep making your videos, please. But, you didn't answer the question 🤣🤣🤣 please forgive me for the intrusive question 💕✨️💕✨️. You rock!
I think my cat Sylvester is in love with your cat Helo. Everytime I watch one of her videos he insists on watching them with me. I'll try to let him down gently.
Craftsman and MCM- I’m in a craftsman style house, but don’t care for the heaviness of Craftsman furniture. Would love to hear you discuss this combo. Love your channel!
Wow -- gorgeous images, thank you! I love the warm romance and elegance of these rooms and objects. Perfect escape from the everyday onslaught of dull, practical, nondescript modern decor. Am so enjoying this channel! 🐱🌹
I love elegant, high-ceilings, mouldings and French windows, with Juliette balconies, cast iron railings across the windows or small balconies. Classical ornaments and furniture and big squishy velvet or damask sofas. Let's not forget the crystal chandeliers 🥰🌿🌺
Hey Steffi. Just wanted to thank you for not only this video, but the offer at Craftsy. Paused your vid to go over and register. So looking forward to hearing about a couple of other crafty stuff I’ve been curious about. Finding out what’s all involved, process, time, investment, etc. BUT NOW……I’m so excited to hear and see your thoughts and ideas about my 2 greatest inspirations….Dark Academia & French Style…or for me it’s French/Victorian/Antique….Filigrees, Damask, Antiqued Silver & Gold, and I love Antiqued Glass. Right now I’m trying to decide for my wall mural to be either this dark, moody antique floral grouping, or this dark, moody Damask wallpaper that is flocked….?! Anyways, I’m watching your vid now….so so curious 😊
Hi Steffi. Thank-you for another inspirational video on a snowy morning here. I think I will have to check out those faux moldings for my bedroom. Take care!👍
I have always been fascinated by dark decor. My current apartment has white walls, dark woods and black accents, with black rugs and runners over a dark wooden floor. I find that poster gallery arrangements give it a sense of visual ambience, but I find it difficult to decide on exactly which type of elements would be best suited for the Studio. I see a lot of statuettes and shelf accessories in a lot of designs, but never felt like any of them connect with me. I do enjoy the occult and Horror movies, so there are a lot of those types of posters in the room, but can't decide which other elements would suit the aesthetic. Any ideas you could pass along?
I love this video and I agree that Chanel is the one and only! Well... you didn't say one and only..LOL Being a male I go for the Bleu and I have two of Chanel books.
Oh dear - art is not decor! Except to real estate stagers. When you update your style, as you'll do over the years, you'll be throwing out all that dark academia matchy-matchy art because nobody else wants it anymore either. Invest in a piece of art because you love it, because it speaks to you. If you do that, it won't matter how your home is decorated because it fit in as well as you do. Art is an extension of your soul.
Secondhand is the way to go with mirrors because they're so expensive! I've had good luck on FB marketplace and Nextdoor. Love French style, love you Steffi, but HATE the AI images you use!!! Please support real photographers/artists and credit them instead of AI, which steals :(
Thank you for the love! Regarding AI, I can't support and credit images that don't exist on the internet to begin with. And when a specific photo doesn't exist, and I'm trying to convey something I'm seeing in my head, I'm going to find ways to create images in order to visually express what I'm talking about in the video. It's commonplace nowadays for interior designers to use MidJourney as a tool to communicate decor ideas to their clients, and I'm going to do the same. There's a lot of misunderstanding and black-and-white thinking around the very nuanced subject of AI (which of course has TONS of problematic issues we need to work out as a society and regulate), but creating these interior design images is an amalgamation of MANY visual references, not stealing. It's like saying scrapbooking a bunch of decor pictures from a magazine is stealing. Anyway, I do appreciate your concern about this! But with one of the main goals of my videos being to provide visual decor inspiration to viewers, I'm going to continue to use a combination of MidJourney, photographer stock photos, Pinterest (sparingly, because crediting becomes difficult on that platform), and shouting out specific IG accounts for inspo. It's all meant to work together to give inspo and ideas. 😊
Thank you so much for the video my apartment lean's Moore to French style plus it's had a dark academia have a large bookcase but anyway thank you for the tips I will incorporate some of the things you shown like that beautiful Mira and also some artwork

I would love to see a video on Southern Gothic design - particularly focused on New Orleans.

Love the idea of mixing these two styles. 💜
They're truly meant for each other 🥰

Love your videos .. have you ever done a dark and Moody kitchen with a Tuscan Vibe? Like an old world style with a twist to it.
Oooh love this idea! Thank you!
Could you do celestial academia please? I'm struggling to find inspo which is not too literal and actually doable :(
Steffi you are looking 🔥😊
Haha aw thank you!!
Can you please let me k ow the music you are playing in the video?
It's a combination of Epidemic Sound (a royalty-free music subscription for videos) and an artist named Harris Heller 😊
@ thank you!
Just don't do art until you can get real art. Get to the thrift to fill the walls with real art until you find forever art.
