+JustLyn: I know, right? Who *wouldn't* feel utter joy playing ANYthing by JW? Just listening to his Olympic theme he wrote in 1984 gives me chills and happy tears after all these years! I love how everyone in the comments is giving all the love to the French horns. I’m a French horn player so it makes me feel all warm inside when someone actually appreciates the special sound it gives to any John Williams piece.
French horns are the real foundation of the regal quality to John Williams pieces. Trumpets are the sparkle, but the French horns are the majesty. From a trumpet player.
It happens fairly consistently when orchestras perform John Williams' music! I was lucky to see him conducting the LSO many years ago and I've never seen an orchestra having that much fun.
OK, a totally different kind of entertainment, but for band members enjoying just being there, IMO nothing beats ruclips.net/video/uMPEUcVyJsc/видео.html (sorry, I couldn't find the full version now). But the musicians' enjoyment is one of the things I enjoy most about that piece.
+Balls McGee Composers for movies or games are way too underestimated. Just look at this theme, or at Schindler's List, Lord of the Rings, etc. So many good composers out there, play their music!

Thank you so much Berliner Philharmoniker. I was there and never forget that moment even it has been more than 10 years. I cannot believe that I was there at the top end camera box. I could buy the ticket at the boxoffice the day. It was unforgettable memory forever. And the gentle German grand mum from my side. Thank you so much. Hope to get the chamber again with my lovely my wife some day.
The Berliner Horn Section will forever be one of my favorite sections in any given orchestra. Bravo Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker on such an amazing performance on a classic!
This made me cry because of how beautiful it was played. My father had a hat JUST like the India Jones fan. He was CRAZYYY over those movies, and he used to wear a hat and leather jacket like his. Just brought back so many beautiful memories. Thank you for the gorgeous music and the memories. Love you pops
Wow, I smiled when I saw this. So pristine and clean! See! One of the world's greatest orchestra's is NOT restricted to classical, avant guarde, or opera! Kudos to the Berliner Philharmoniker :)

As a life long Indiana Jones fan (it was literally my life from the ages of 6 though 10. I wanted to be an archeologist so badly it hurt)I was in tears at hearing this version. WE LOVE YOU INDY!!
I remember being 9 or 10 and always playing as Indy in my backyard with my grandpa's huge fedora and a toy revolver. Then one day, I came home and on my bed were the iconic whip, the holster, the metal revolver (toy ofc) and of course, the exact bag that Indy wears throughout the franchise. After that day, every time I came home from school, I begged my parents to go to the local park and play as Indiana Jones, running and rolling around the place, shooting at people and wrapping the whip around their foot before pulling them down, and all that stuff...Those were the days.
It was only literally your life if you are a fictitious character, which is clearly nonsense. You see what a minefield you step into by forcing the word 'literally' into everything you say?

Great stuff from a great composer, great orchestra, and great conductor. It's always so cool to see the players clearly enjoying themselves while still playing at an astronomical level.
I went to a strict catholic school. When we had a field day we went to the St . Louis Symphony Orchestra. What caught my eye was at 0:20 and 0:52 where the trumpet player closest to the camera was using a left side blow technique on his mouthpiece. I have a tighter embouchure in that same spot and can get a much wider range. I wish I had discovered that when I was starting out as a brass player in junior high school before I switched to Baritone and a bigger mouthpiece because I couldn't reach the notes above G consistently.

While it was made in Germany, the way the French used it popularized, and that's why it's called the French Horn
