To me it's not that The Chosen portrays Jesus more human, it's that they portray His Humanity intermingled with His Divinity. Most movies separate the two and just portray Jesus as human or God but fail to do both. When actually He's 100% both at the same time.

In Semitic cultures at the time (Jewish and Arabic), dogs were considered pests. They wouldn't have used one as a guard, let alone a pet. The fact that Matthew has one highlights how he doesn't fit in with Jewish culture, and being a publican means his only friend is this pest nobody wants.

You should watch Dallas and Jonathan‘s interview about his playing Jesus. Jonathan is so committed to how he portrays Jesus! You should also see his testimony. It is really, really interesting. There are no spoilers in either of those videos. The deep dive round tables with the consultants are done by episode. So after you have watched an episode, you can see the round table for that episode. Again, no spoilers. I think you would really love them.

1:06:40 ... I studied organic chemistry in college; so, Nabeel Quareshi’s story of studying resonance structure molecules in his organic chemistry class helped me understand the trinity and the duality of Jesus as fully man and fully god.

he came as a human to model and carry out what man could not do which is to be fully directed and submitted to the Holy Spirit, living a perfect life in communion with God, like the original design in the garden of Eden, to carry out Gods commission on earth. He had to in order to redeem mankind (this is why Jesus is called 'The last Adam' and 'The firstborn'), and He modeled what we would become restored to...people restored to right relationship with God and empowered by His Spirit ❤️
Really enjoying rewatching The Chosen with you Leonardo! When I discovered this series I was so disillusioned with Christianity, or actually the politicizing of the faith. I'm seeing the story of Jesus with fresh eyes! It's a pleasure to watch with a non-Christian, one with limited frame of reference. Your analyses are awesome!

I can't explain the comfort and hope I've gotten after such despair over the state of our country, the environment and constant disasters. It has made me realize, God is who I keep my eyes on and the rest is in his hands. I've found peace that is making my daily life so much better. Less anxiety and anger. I am grateful for the changes I’ve seen in people that could only have come because of The Lord and dreams I’ve been given. One in particular reminded me how The Lord feels about us: I dreamt that Jesus was in a beautiful field surrounded by people. He told me I was allowed to ask Him one question. I asked Him “You say that You love all of us, but how can You love me?” He was sitting at the time and then He sat me on His lap. He brought up sins He knew I was very ashamed of and said “these things have been forgiven and I love you beyond all of it.” He then wrapped His arms around me and hugged me. I can honestly say, I have NEVER felt so much love in my entire life as in that very moment, and it was a dream! I can’t wait to experience a hug in person from our savior!

Jesus was fully man fully God, it's OK not to understand it, I have a "shelf" where I put everything I just don't get...yet....Can you imagine the vastness of the universe?? No, and God is outside Time and Space, so how can our brain possibly comprehend it all? we will have eternity to understand
Yes, like they mentioned on episode 03... We won't understand everything now, and it's okay. God will reveal what must be revealed when time is right, we might not have the understanding needed now (or we might not need to understand it now, which are two different things haha)
Jesus is fully human as well as you pointed out. Of course he could of accessed his divine nature if he chose to, but he decided to empty himself (Philippians 2:5-11).
Jesus did what we couldn't, he represented humanity and fulfilled our part of the covenant. He was the vicarious man in that he did things on our behalf, he died the death that we deserved and took the full weight of mans sin and its consequences on the cross.
So Jesus walked this earth as a man. Acts 10:38 says that God annointed him and that he went around doing good healing all who were oppressed of the Devil. While he did a lot of symbolic and messianic signs that show he was who he said he was. But the cool thing is that Jesus lived as a man, as humans were supposed to be. He is our Lord but he is also our example. We are supposed to imitate him and follow his example of love, holiness etc.
"He who believes in Me will do the same works that I do, and greater works than these shall he do." - John 14:12
Not only do we imitate Christ in that sense. Not only do we have the Spirit that was in Jesus living in us, we are also to love just as he loved us.
"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:31-32
"This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends." - John 15:12-13
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” - John 13:34-35

When this is viewing is over, I hope you also watch the interview with Dallas Jenkins and Jonathan Roumie who plays Jesus. A lot of your remarks are covered including Jesus' deity and his humanity. It's wonderful. The word you were looking for as far as 'other' Jesus portrayals is 'pious'. I'm curious though why you didn't like the 'delivery' of this miracle? Was it the actual miracle or the words he spoke about sorting the fish because the miracle; the tipping of the boat and the excitement was extraordinary. ALSO, in one of the Bonus Content clips is all about the music and how they chose sounds...Lastly, the Deep Dives pertain to each episode. They dont discuss future episodes in the Deep Dives. One final,last thing, lol...Brandon Potter plays Quintus , he is delightful and you can find his interview with Dallas Jenkins on RUclips
Our hearts go out to Peter as he tries to do the only thing he knows to try to care for his family. But at the same time, most of us need to come to the end of ourselves before we turn to God to solve life's problems. It is heartbreaking, but necessary.

Bountiful fish when Jesus meets Simon where he is (in a deep pit, ie. in great trouble): only when Jesus is in your life, only when you trust him with all your plans, only then can all things be made possible in the most impossible situations.
As it is written “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”--Jeremiah 17:7-8
All things come in the perfect time of God as was shown by the bountiful fish scene. It was a time of giving up and unbelief for Simon but Jesus showed Simon that God is still sitting on the throne and that there are still miracles from the Father from above. God knew his troubles. And truly His timing is the best timing because our faith becomes more anchored on His rock during trying times where He shows us grace and mercy (As it is written, in our weakness, He is our strength).
So, Leonardo, will you soon become one of the blue fish swimming against the current and against the flow of the crowd of other fish? Or are you only going to react intellectually with your mind and soul, when God wishes you to engage your spirit with His Holy Spirit and not learn OF Him through the Chosen but let His Spirit in so you can know Him intimately and to let Him know you, as a friend? I do believe your day will come! When you get a fresh start (born again) then you can come into His presence with a clean spirit, not knowing sin in your new spirit which separates us from God, though our bodies and souls still have to battle with the sin/temptations of this present setting we are in.
This episode always touches me in a different way. I cant figure out why but its so good.

First time through,I did not watch alone.
Generally dogs were food scrap scavengers. They were considered unclean and anything unclean was untouchable. Matthew was considered unclean by his profession and therefore untouchable so it's telling that Matthew has a dog as a companion.

Non -Christians have reacted in the way of Jesus as well ....'The Chosen ' has touched many 'Chosen Hearts '
The key message in this episode was rendered by Eden to Simon when she said he was trying to do everything by himself, fixing his problems according to his own wisdom in his own efforts. Despite his 'good' intentions things will still go wrong unless he first lets go and let God be God of his life. If we surrendered to God, He will first fix us to be more like Him so that we'll do things according to His will and design. The world will be a better place if each one lets God be God of our lives.
So glad you’re watching this!! I’ve probably watched it at least 4 times. The humor is great! I love Zebedee, he’s such a great dad! Also love Matthew (and his dog). Episode 4, 6 and 7 are my favorites. I’m super amped for season 2 :)
The whole idea behind this was they wanted to portray The Human Side of Jesus
The cool thing for me (and I think maybe others have felt this too) is that with this particular portrayal of the 100% human Jesus, I find I can relate to Him even better, and have connected even more deeply with the 100% Divine Jesus. 💕
More as Dallas said to see Christ the way those who walked with Him and were touched by Him saw him. I love the angle Dallas chose to make the Chosen relatable, more real for those who even now continue to question if He was the Son of God.
I disagree with "Simon is just trying to do the right thing." That's the deception we tell ourselves, or the enemy whispers, to justify what WE have decided we should do in a situation, rather than doing what God has told us is right. We just keep repeating the original sin that Adam & Eve committed that caused our fall from grace with God. That sin was choosing to decide fir ourselves what is good and evil, rather than following what our Creator tells us is good and evil. In order to choose our own way, we had to break trust with God. That infidelity broke the relationship and the natural consequences followed. We are watching Simon repeat this folly of humans which breaks, or prevents, relationship with God. He devised his own solutions to his problems instead of going to Bid with them and seeking the Lord's solutions. Simon's plan required compromise, deception, manipulation, striving - all contrary to God. God's plan never breaks His law and always brings integrity, honesty, respect, and all things good. This shows how crucial it is that we have our minds renewed, in order to stop devising our own fallible plans and trust our Creator that his blueprint for life works. Simon was not trying to do THE right thing. He was doing what he decided was right and employing any tactics HE deemed necessary to carry out that plan. I reignite this in him, because it is the story of my life as well.
This is my first FAVOURITE episode of the series Leonardo! When JESUS reveals He is truly GOD with this miracle, and my tears are those of pure JOY!
He was also Devine but he didn’t tap into his divinity for himself, he only used it to serve others. Remember in the 40days I’m the desert, he would not use his power to benefit himself. He abandoned that for himself
So, when the Roman leader made the comment of 'of course you have a dog!" and you asked what does that mean... back in the time of Christ, dogs were looked at as pretty much sub-standard anything. The lowest of the low on creatures about. Not sure why, but Quintos would've found it comical Matthew had one, seeing as he was hated so much.

Jesus was operating as fully human. But if you recall when jesus was baptized in the jordan by John, the holy spirit descended on Jesus as a dove and stayed with him. He did all the miracles by the power of the holy spirit. The way Jesus lived his life on earth is an example of how we as believers can live also by the power of the holy spirit. Read acts 2, the holy spirit endues us with power and makes us effective witnesses.

Simon not catching any fish at a time he has deadline and may lose everything if he didnt do anything: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11).
If it is not in God's plans, there will be multiple delays and blocks. He will not allow what does not glorify His name or what further multiplies evil (e.g. Witchcraft).
God was aware of the hard life and suffering Simon was going through. Simon was designed by God to be more than what he is now. God knows that his future will have less pain and suffering and will be more prosperous if Simon took the path God is making for Simon. "For my yoke (google yoke for oxen) is easy and my burden is light". If we take the path He paved for us, things will be easier and lighter because God will be guiding your every step and putting all odds in your favor even against your enemies (You prepare a banquet for me infront of my enemies-Psalm 23:5)
God only asks that we obey Him and put our trust in Him.
What’s even more remarkable is that the actor and actress playing Simon and Eden filmed the dramatic scene in this episode first...so they didn’t even really know each other and were able to convey that much emotion!!
Jesus's two natures share properties through the so-called communicatio idiomatum or sharing of attributes between the Divine and Human natures of Christ. Romans held dogs in high regard. They were used in war, used for protection (mostly greyhounds), for guarding their valuables. Matthew, as a tax collector, would have had much to protect. Quintus assumes Matthew has the dog as a guard dog, not as merely a pet. He misses Matthew's heart.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this. Dogs back then were looked upon unfavorable and unclean not the loving devoted companions as we see them today. I think that's why Matthew the tax collector is portrayed as having a pet dog, they were both unaccepted by society and more so interchangeable.

As to your question about His Divinity- he did not withdraw that at all. He is a Divine person with a human nature and a divine nature. He still was "limited"because of His Human nature in some aspects. Like for example, His feeling pain physically and emotionally! I don't want to try to say more for possible near heresy because I'm not explaining it as well as I should! I would read "Theology and Sanity" by Frank Sheed. Gem of a book! Jesus was always fully human and fully divine.
Just now watching this, love it! Just subscribed, too. The way I like to explain God/Jesus/Holy Spirit, or the Trinity, 3 in 1, is this... you are Leo. One man. But you are a father to your little girl, a son of your parents, and a partner to (I can’t remember her name, I’m so sorry!) So you are many things in one body. That’s how I understand the idea of 3 in 1. Also how I understand Jesus being able to do his miracles... you’re always a father and a son and a partner, even if you are not with your parents or your daughter or your partner. Jesus is still who he is, even if he doesn’t always “look” like it. I hope that makes sense!

Yes. They are protraying the Lord as human one of us. Choosing to be one of us and walk with us. Emmanuel God with us. Also fully God. We recognize the humanity in Him yet He is without sin. We are learning to recognize who God is as He walks in His life as Jesus. When we accept Him in our heart His Holy Spirit comes to live in us and teach and guide us. Jesus in heaven is seated at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. He is preparing a place for us.

Loved this! Quick answer on the question of how Jesus had miraculous power as a human: the Holy Spirit came on Him when He was baptized by John. You're correct that He laid aside His 'God-powers' to become human, Phil 2:7 in NLT says it really well - '... He gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being'. Fast forward 30 yrs from His birth to His baptism - Luke 3:21-23 'Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age ...' He did no miracles before this point, vs 23 states that this point was when His ministry began and all recorded miracles happened after this point.
Cool note, this one of several passages that depict the concept / existence of the Trinity - Jesus getting baptized, the Father speaking over Jesus and the Holy Spirit descending onto Jesus. Other explanations go like this .... While on Earth God the Son laid aside his divine attributes not ceasing to be God but not using his own power , But as a man relied on prayer and was filled with the Holy Spirit from the Father , and through the Spirit he did miracles , both explanations make sense to me
Divine miracles in Jesus' human form:
the Bible only mentionned the day Jesus being born in a manger; being seen by the three kings as a toddler (i was also mindblown this is from Prophet Sadhu selvaraj); Jesus as a young child preaching in the temple and then as a 30 yr old man baptized by John until the point of His death.
All other parts of his life wasnt written. It is taught by pastors and minsiters that Jesus was only able to do miracles (described in book of Matthew, Mark, John and Luke) after the Holy Spirit descended on Him while being baptized by John the Baptist. John described a dove descend upon Jesus and that Jesus was greatly favored by the Father Almighty during that time. Only the Holy Spirit who can give Jesus divine power. The same way the Holy Spirit can also make possible the Christians (especially pastors and seers) to perform miracles like healing even from afar.
You will see in the next episode His first miracle and that He said "it is not yet time for Him to be known". At this point Jesus was already communing with God the Father about the timing of things to come. In the next episodes a scene will show the right time for the Messiah to be known by the Jews.

How can a God be this much humble?
As fully God and fully man yes Jesus is able to tap into his divine nature at any time. That being said all things he did were according to the will and plan of the father. Jesus never stop being. Even for a moment in fact Paul says that Jesus upholds and sustains the universe. There are many things about the Trinity and the Incarnation of God the Son that we do not understand but are none-the-less true. Just know that the very man who had Nails driven through his hands and feet is the very same man who created the Stars an created you.
Jesus did not have to tap into power....HE IS THE DIVINE POWER! Precious questions you ask..seeking after wisdom is good in God's Word.

I grew up Christian, knowing about God and always teetered on the edge of knowing and living the word. I'm now 38 and this show brought me back to the path of God. It brought me back to scripture & wanting my relationship with God back and strong. It sounds dumb that a show did it but they portray the scripture in their bounds so amazingly. I feel him in a way that i cannot describe when i watch it vs reading scripture. I was actually brought to Angel bc of Sound of Freedom.
Stumbled across watching this series a second time through. I have enjoyed your reactions. I know I am 2 years too late, but as to your question at the end about Jesus coming as a Human and leaving his divinity behind and so how could he do these miracles. There is a lot about this in the early Fathers of the Church. Jesus never ceased being God in full, yet he took on our nature as well so that he can redeem our nature. It is one of the great and yet joyous mysteries. Christ is 100% God and 100% Man in One Person. One Person, Two Natures in complete Unity, without mixture, change, division or separation. I would check out studies on the Hypostatic Union and the Fourth Eccuminical Counsil of Chalcedon in 451 AD.
Conceived by Holy Spirit makes God His Father. So He has been 100% divine and 100% human from conception. He followed The Plan of rescuing us from sin by being the sinless, perfect sacrifice for us!

Jesus came to fulfill the law because people could not fulfill it on their own (He was the ultimate sacrifice). So that we could live free from sin in His strength. Jesus also lived a life of example to us as fully surrendered God's children. He did everything as a human filled with the holy spirit(fullness of God) and He promised the holy spirit to us all to lead, guide and to teach us all things and to point to Jesus. We are to live in HIS footsteps. Do what He COMMANDED us to do and see His example of living it out. Thats what it means to follow HIM💙💎
