    Sounds like metal left over from the machining process, I didn't know these engines are now made by the Chinese. That tells a different story....

    I'm thinking of buying this engine also. I down loaded the manual from the Horizon website. Under "Running-in" it states...use a 25:1 fuel/oil mixture...and they do not recommend bench running, just fly it. the manual says to use 50:1 after break-in. The engine is kept cooler in flight rather than running on a bench, especially if it's cowled. Or someone left a chunk metal in there...who knows!? Do you know if the engines are pre-run at the factory before shipment? I noticed that the goal of the Chinese company is to sell the product and make a profit. I've owned several Japanese OS engines over a thirty year span with no issues!

      I agree!! I have at least two OS two cycle engines and four OS 4 cycle engines, a ton of Saito engines and never had a issue with any of them. People argue the Chinese OS is just as good, I disagree. Also I operate DLE single and twin Cylinder engines also made in China with absolutely no issues as of yet. So I'm thinking this particular OS was defective from the factory.

      And very possible there was junk left in the engine after machining.

      @@workshoptazz7893 I know that I'm "old school" because I still enjoy glow engines. I like the simplicity, low weight and power. I've been flying a .65 AX for five years now, still runs like new. Actually it gained power with age! Did you see the guy from Australia that uses colorful language put an OS GT-15 in a helicopter? It sort of melted.

      @@paulkrapp nothing wrong with Glow, fuel is hard to get local tho. So out of laziness I'm slowly converting all my glow stuff to gas. Lol no I have not seen the guy from Australia, I will look for the video on RUclips.

    ?? A lower rod bush going south might allow the bottom end of rod to case clearance to go to zero and touch. Did you ever figure it out?

    ok vid is 2 yrs old but you did nothing wrong. there were shavings in the engine. made in china says it all. what i always did with a brand new engine is rinse it out thouroughly with marvel mystery oil. your amazed to see how much crap comes out . ( let the used oil sit for a day )

  • @johno9507
    @johno9507 5 лет назад +2

    50/1 oil ratio, why so little oil??
    Everything I've seen says 25/1 which is similar to most other gas engines.

    • @workshoptazz7893
      @workshoptazz7893  5 лет назад

      25/1 for conventional oil, I could see. Synthetic typically can be used in most or a lot of applications at 50/1 I have ran over the last 30 plus years, outboards, chainsaw, weed eaters, 2 stroke dirt bikes, and all of my DLE 2 stroke RC engines with Zero issues. On further inspection of my OS gas engine, it appeared that someone in China! Left shavings in the crank case that got distributed through the whole engine. To late now! All apart and new stuff on order.

      Yeah I understand, I used to be a small engine mechanic and we used 50:1 in chainsaws ect but in a smaller engine I would have bumped it up a little.
      Was it the piston ring pin that stops the ring rotating that came out by any chance?

    • @workshoptazz7893
      @workshoptazz7893  5 лет назад

      No, parts were intact. What I found was larg shavings in the bearings and wedged in between connecting rod and case. And a chunk that made it's way along side the piston and jammed in to the top of the head. With no sine of wear in the case. I've read a few articles now about OS having some issues, they clame OS is just as good as it was when it was made in Japan..... I beg to differ!! I have OS Japan made engines, quality is not the same. This is Sad, OS was a great engine. I have few of their glow engines all were great!

    Maybe since they are made in China, O S could start to lower their price🤣 Thats a $400+ engine. Almost twice the price of other brands in 15cc size.

      @@workshoptazz7893 I purchased a O.S gt15 gas motor from Tower Hobbies who is owned by Horizon Hobbies.
      My friend who knows a lot about gas engines put it on his test stand to break it in for me.
      When he went to start it it ran for only 5 seconds.
      He tried starting it again and it wouldn't start.
      He then noticed a hole in the engine block.
      He told me to send it back.
      So I got in touch with tower.
      The gentleman was very kind and understanding and told me I had to send it to horizon tech service and he sent me a label for free shipping from FedEx.
      This was great i thought a company who really cares.
      So I get a email back from a Rick V technician at horizon hobbies
      That the motor was modified at some point after it left the factory and that unfortunately the motor can not be replaced.
      But he can offer me a 20% off a new O.S gt15
      For 319 dollars oh and said he will even waver the shipping.
      So I contacted them and told them to send it back.
      I was not going to pay an extra 319 for a nother motor then my moter should have been covered by warranty.
      So this means horizon hobbies don't give a shit about your warranty
      Hell i called them yesterday and they guy in customer support told me that he would have his manager Dave who is in there motor department call me back haha
      He never called .
      What a pice of shit company.

      He said that he would send me a one time new motor.
      I thought that great
      But he still thinks I modified when I didnt.
      But who cares i am getting a motor for my son's airplane.
      You have great videos keep them coming.
