If I were to be honest with you, even many of the series that are considered for kids, I know I personally would not actually consider for kids XD
I remember growing up with transformers prime, and even at the time, I felt that it wasn’t appropriate for the age as watching it, yet I continued watching it lol. TheReason why I don’t feel it’s authentically for kids, regardless of what the adults who made it believe, there’s an excessive amount of violence and suffering we have to see the transformers go through, regardless of what color they’re supposed blood is, the amount of violence and kind of violence that is presented I would say it’s not appropriate for children, and resembles more of what I would see in a mature anime
So no worries, I don’t think you have anything to worry about :-)

@@qantaloupemelon2791 , I strongly disagree with your opinion. I personally consider Transformers Prime for kids, because I know for a fact that kids, especially young boys love robot action/violence, stories that are well written, a tone that is perfectly balance of light and dark, interesting characters with backstories. I can go on and on on why I consider TFP to be a great transformers cartoon for kids, but that is all for now. I loved Transformers prime as a 7 year old kid when it aired on TV, because of everything I mention in my comment. Right now I have a 9 year old cousin who is watching Transformers Prime on dvd and he is literally loving it, especially with violence aka actions it has and I see no problems with that, as the parents of my cousin see no problems with that as well.

Unfortunately there are a lot of parents that expect this of networks. Instead of seeing it is entertainment that they should first watch themselves and then judge whether or not their kids can handle it, they expect the TV to be a babysitter for them and get mad when that babysitter "purposefully" scares their children; as if G1 didn't come with literal mutilations and death. Hell, this generation of parents grew up on _Beast Wars_ which had dismemberment as its main form of comedy. It also had cannibalism, brain washing, literal sadists, slavery, sex-based innuendos and death. It made TFP look _tame_ in comparison.
Sometimes it's a matter of parents not willing to challenge their children; I remember getting into this huge heated argument where a woman weaponized her autistic nephew as somebody who couldn't handle transformers prime and therefore, transformers prime needed to dumb down it's violence. I had the opposite opinion, I kept pointing out that they had rescue bots to watch instead if they couldn't handle transformers prime and transformers prime doesn't deserve to be dumbed down because her autistic nephew couldn't handle the material. She just kept flying off the handle saying how dare I question her nephew's autism/not care about it (she, meanwhile, is ignoring my autism & ADHD) and pointed out how it even scared one of the creators kids like it was some grand slam against my point. "Yeah," I said, "this is why they made rescue bots."
Like she didn't seem to understand how selfish and audacious it was to expect transformers prime to dumb itself down for children who couldn't handle it rather than expecting the parents/caregivers to find media they could handle or better yet, expose them to what scares them and deal with the fallout appropriately instead of avoiding it so they don't have to deal with an autistic meltdown. (Another thing she mentioned. Like, I'm sorry your kid is harder to handle, but that's bit the show's problem????)

@@NoirRaven Rescue Bots was made for toddlers/younger kids and Transformers Prime is made for older kids. Besides there are literally many kids loving TF Prime ever since it first aired. It's just parents being overlysensitive to fictional violence. I was 7 when Prime came out and I loved it very much, including the violence aka action and my parents knew about it and did NOT care, because why would they? They know that it's common for kids, especially boys adoring robot action cartoons.

Not only that, but some tfw2005 users even gatekeep kids from watching and enjoying great cartoons like transformers prime just because they think that a show that is well-written should only be enjoyed by adults. Ironic, considering the fact that those are the same people who keeping claiming that kids deserve better transformers shows/cartoons that is enriching, so once transformers prime was made, they literally gatekeep kids from enjoying it and claim that show for themselves only. • @lotty.
    @lotty. 2 года назад +34

I feel like TFA is a good hybrid between the more mature themes and kid-friendly tone. If you really watch the show and read the comics you get this really broad picture of a dark political structure, but this would go over any kid's head. You wouldn't notice the finer details in what is implied until you get older (like the war crimes the Autobots committed against the Decepticons). This is why TFA stands to be my favorite continuity, there's a lot of darker things that are implied but never directly stated while still being a kids show. It could have easily embraced the darker themes present and been more like 2005IDW with its' writing but it never chose to, it only left this to the imagination. This made actual dark scenes (Blurr getting crushed for example) all the better as it was a huge shock that they'd actually show that. TFA is a heavily underrated Transformers show that I think does the best at making both factions more morally gray as to which is correct. Sure, the intro tells you the Autobots are the good guys and the Decepticons are bad, but throughout the show (and comics) we see the Autobots committing some heinous things but on the flipside the Decepticons are also pretty terrible. I really think TFA is the most slept on continuity as it combines the good parts of Cyberverse with the good parts of IDW2005.
also edit: (I feel like TFA is a lot darker than TFP due to a lot of what it implies being far worse than TFP's implications/what it shows)

Y'know, looking back I think that the reason why Prime has this reputation of being a "adult" show, and why other transformers shows are not treated as seriously by anyone besides dedicated fans. It's because of lingering belief that maturity equals: "seriousness, misery, depression, tragedy, etc". Alsongside the trend of linking happiness, fun, lightheartedness, exccitement etc to naivity and immaturity. Which is why I think is behind public's reception of main transformers shows. Which is a part of a mass of bigger problems in our society, and a complete BS. Because without disrespect to Prime, it's not a flawless masterpiece, and quite often bit more that it could chew. With majority of other TF shows having as much or even more mature understanding and themes, while still being fun and goofy. Because maturity is not about being sad and miserable, it's about understanding how you and the world around you tick, and how to navigate within this understanding.

Yet adults are craving for more stories exploiting the full potential of the franchise like the comics did.

  • @cakefrosting6451

Very true about kids and their ability to handle violence and stuff. When supervised that is.
My mother got us, the two girls and her one boy, transformers action figurines. At the time, we were raised on Bayformers. And as kids, we did watch Bayformers with our parents.
Then we also have animal dolls that would stereotypically be seen as girls toys, complete with dollhouses. My brother is allowed to play with dolls with his sisters, and his sisters play with him his cars. And on the dolls, my siblings often act out goddamn apocalyptic scenarios such as a mass flooding. Yes, kids are able to process heavy stuff.
But if you’re the parent, you should still supervise them when they wanna watch something with heavy dark stuff. I can say I remember the gory details of Saving Private Ryan since 8 years old, but I know my parents were there to supervise.

I remember when I was a teenager (about 16 or so) I got guilt tripped by my parents for watching cartoons and some other tv shows. At some point I even tried to watch other programs like these on Animal Planet etc. but I gave up on it some time later because it wasn't that interesting to me, I just switched back to my old ways. I actually stopped watching cartoons mostly because they dropped the quality of shows (or at least that was so imo). But now being 25+, I like coming back to watching cartoons that I enjoyed in my younger days and finding out other shows I somehow missed in the past.
I think honestly that teenage years can be terrible if it comes to the amount of shame we experience for liking things "inappropriate" for our age and later it's stuck to us in the adulthood. It's pretty sad that people think that being adult means the lack of some form of entertainment and that after we hit certain age we're not allowed to have fun in some ways. But I believe that this mindset is getting weaker and weaker nowadays and people feel less stricted so they still enjoy their things.
At the end of my comment the opinion I agree on is: If a show is well written, it doesn't matter if it's made for kids or not

What's funny is that, with this video's logic, the live action transformers movies ends up being somewhat the opposite. It definitely has a lot of violent and suggestive themes (like deaths); yet, due to how they're written and Michael Bay being so insistent in making it his own awesome way, they end up having dumb and childish/cringe humor. Prob why they don't have a higher rating of pg-13 and why kids at the time, (such as me) became so invested in them. Though, despite what people say, I still enjoy these films intended for adults with cringe humor as much as I enjoy shows intended for children which may have dark themes.

This is something I was JUST talking about with a friend of mine. And honestly, you're right. Nothing wrong with saying Transformers is meant for kids but with dark adult themes, cause kids aren't stupid. They can handle stuff like that. We just baby them a lot

I know I’m saying this a lot, I guess I just don’t want any other children to fall into the place I did. I know not all children are exactly the same, but I thought I should give some perspective as someone who also had parents that had the exact same perspective as it seems that a lot of you guys do here. Your intentions are very good, and I agree, there are a lot of things currently even that they dumb down in a lot of so-called kids shows, because for example, they’re super afraid that children will just implode if they hear the word crap, but yet, at the same, Will show some very violent scenery. I know this contradicts the argument of everyone else here, but as someone who had parents that thought it was ridiculous not to expose children to real life stuff, I have to say, I had to go through a lot of healing and some form of therapy to help with the effects that this kind of adult content had on me.
I am now older and can handle it, but just taken from personal experience, I totally get where you guys are coming from, but there are still certain things that children should not be exposed to, and violence is one of them. I know I didn’t need to forever feel my heart dropped into my stomach every time I saw an image of cliff jumper, not even remembering what happened to him, just associating something very gory and violent with him, yet I’m able to watch currently, ghost in the Shell and other very violent series. The difference is, I watched Transformers prime when I was about 10, versus I watched ghost in the shell at about 16.

I watched transformers prime ever since it aired on TV as a 7/8year old kid. I absolutely adore that kids cartoon show for everything about it, the characters, the actions/violence, music, the stories for each episodes, movie inspirations, the dark elements it had, the comedy and more that I loved as a kid back then. I absolutely see NO real issues for transformers prime bring a kids show, especially when that show is everything that kids, especially young boys would love, not just adults. What with the robot characters, lots of actions, fun and interesting stories, music and more that both kids and adults would enjoy and appreciate. Kids don't have to enjoy TFP the same way as adults do since there is something in that show for everyone to like about. I had classmates of mine from elemschool who watches TFP on TV and talk about it, especially when a friend of mine talk about how he enjoyed the nemesis prime episode. My parents knows that I love that show and see no real problems with it because why the heck would they? Dare I say that my own parents wanted me to handle dark themes and frictional violence in cartoons, because they know that its possible for kids under 13 to handle. Put till this day, trust me when I say that there are actual kids watching and enjoy TFP on dvd. There are literally parents that bought the dvd for their kids to enjoy right now.

As someone who was a 7 year old kid during the time when transformers prime aired on TV, I absolutely loved it. I thought it was so awesome as a young boy, because of everything it has, the action scenes which is something I adore for so long, the designs for each characters, the characters themselves are so great(my favourites are Arcee, Bumblebee and Optimus Prime as a kid), the 3D animation, the music, the story/plot of prime, the comedy, the dark tone and the fact that it's a amazing kids cartoon show. Up till this day, I consider TFP to be easily my favourite kids cartoon show and my favourite transformers show. As an older fan right now, I see no real problem with TFP still being a show for kids. Transformers Prime was clearly meant to be a cartoon show aimed primarily towards kids aka a new generation of fans, while it still appeals to the older fans, which is something I gotta give credit to the creators. I am so glad that I grew up with TFP since childhood, the writers of the show definitely respected their target audience of younger viewers. I know for a fact that there are many kids around the world who loved transformers prime, I had classmates from elementary school who talk about the show, there were definitely children buying and playing with TFP toys. It really makes me happy to see kids of this generation enjoying their definitive transformers along side with the older fans from previous generations.

Thank you for making this validating video. I dropped or at the very least hid (from my peers) a bunch of series and games I'd liked as a teenager because I was embarrassed about liking them because they were for kids. Now that I'm an adult and have lost most, if not all fucks to give about others' opinions about what I like, I've been hopping on nostalgia trains a lot and it's been so much fun. I'm going to see if I can get some old Hugo or Moomin games working on my system soon because I came across the idea of revisiting them since I do have some of those in my apartment - and I have a feeling especially the Hugo games are going to be an absolute festival of nostalgia.

The thing with the rescue bots shows is that they don’t really respect the whole “robots from outer space” thing, like how transformers can be kids in Academy, even though they’re made instead of birthed and it’s rarely a thing in other series, and how in the original rescue bots the EMP zone is effective against transformers, even though they don’t even use electricity or have normal wiring (aside from the thing on boulders back). That and being made of metal even though they are much more resilient then metal, and it’d make no sense giving how they’re made and all.

Back when I watched Rescue Bots S1 for the first time (I was 16 ish years old I think) I convinced myself I did it only because I read in a comment on YT that it was somehow connected to TFP or at least in the same timeline, but after I watched ALL the seasons in just a couple of days... I just felt genuinely guilty for liking it so much. Now as a 18 yo I still feel kinda ashamed of admitting that I want to rewatch a few episodes again, or for wanting to check RB Academy (which I haven't yet), or that I genuinely felt attached to the characters especially Chase.

I got teased all the time by extended fam and folks in school. Now, as an as an adult (18) I’ve looked into it more and really gone into the lore of them all. I love it y’know? Right from the beginning my 3-year-old girl never liked dolls. Instead she would take toy cars and have them talk to each other and act like people. I thought this was a little disconcerting so I got the idea to get a few kiddy Transformers for her. The ones that transform with one step. These are by far her favorite toys now. Rescue Bots is by far her favorite show. I think it's awesome and I told her if she can figure out how to transform one of my Transformers then it's hers.

Transformers' creation at the very start is explicitly to *sell toys.*
The way they wrote the story, be it cartoon or comic were all designed to do so. Characters live and die based on which toys get canned.
True, nowadays they have more creative freedom and can prioritize the story over the toys, but at the core they are still the same business. And that is fine.
Take Pokemon, it is as child friendly as it get and still is the most wide spread phenomenon for all ages.

Just because a show is made for kids doesn’t mean it has to be cringy and predictable. What made Prime so great was its high quality and how much depth it gave its characters, how it touched so much Transformers lore, and that it wasn’t infested with shitty jokes (save for Miko, but even her character was later redeemed).

Very well said! I have been a fan since 1984. I am certain some people find my Transformers collecting and fandom weird, but for the reasons you outline, I don't really care what anyone thinks. The show are mostly well written, the Fandom is for the most part inclusive (as you mentioned), the bots are cool, the lore is interesting, and the toys are fun! I am glad that for the most part they focus on a kid audience, it keeps our Fandom alive and growing.

  • @TheOnlyCathyCat

I am really glad that there are other people thinking along these lines. It is so boring and tedious when adults in the "fandom" behave as if Transformers is somehow for adults because for me, collecting Transformers and watching the shows is to get away from the tediously terrifying world we live. Transforming robots is an inherently silly idea and that's fine.
Despite being a G1 kid, Cyberverse is my favourite series because it is so well written.
