Hi, I want to replace my fake logs in our gas fireplace with crushed glass, but was told by a fireplace store I called that I can’t do that with my model fireplace. I’m not sure I understood the reasons why he said I couldn’t do that. Something about soot/creosote. He said I needed to replace the whole unit if I wanted to replace the fake logs with gas, which will cost me thousands of dollars. I’m wondering if this is true, or if he just wanted to make a sale. Do you know if fake logs can be replaced with crushed glass on *any* gas fireplace?
Most likely you can't remove the logs completely if your fireplace is designed to use them, especially if it's a ventless model. Other than looks, the fake logs help ensure proper combustion so removing them could cause the gas to not completely combust and build up soot. Hope that helps
great and informative video!
Thank you!
