    Was just looking at the 144st online and boom your video goes live! I believe the leather band is shark skin, thick, but waterproof. Mine softened up after about 2 weeks of daily wear, lasted about 2 years even after using it in water! Great video, really enjoyed the presentation. When it comes to real useful innovation sinn is far ahead of any competition. (Don’t even mention Tudor or damasko 😆) Never have to take mine off, Sauna, ice bath, diving. Such a great brand 🔥

    I came across with Sinn brand about 14 years ago. They already had quite a lineup of fantastic looking and advanced material/technology in some of their watches back then.
    IMHO the downside of certain technology Sinn used like dehumidifier, special lubrication (if I am not wrong) means one has to send back to their service centre for services. Could a bit costly and longer wrist-off time.

    I love Sinn Chronographs, these are very cool, but it's the 103 that really whets my whistle.
    BTW, I have a leather strap in the same style on my Lunar Pilot. It's made by a German Co. called Rios. Mine doesn't have that 'hump' of padding the Sinn strap has but it 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 needs some wearing in after 3 or so months. And the Sinn strap looks a lot thicker! They'll last a lifetime, but they'll take a long time to soften up.
    Cheers Pete.

    Yeah, those Sinn leather straps need some break-in. I found the technique of taking the strap off and folding the springbar ends back on the strap itself (about 1 cm down from the spring bar) and clipping a clothespin at the fold, letting set for 2-3 days, puts just enough flex in the right spot that the watch sits flatter and more manageably. These are great watches, no question.

    their both lovely watches, I bought a le jour mark 1 swiss eta 7750 Valjoux chronograph. no doubt by the name you can tell it's french, it was designed to look like the 1970s chronograph which was very popular back in the day. also, the subdials are black which look like the 1970s and 80s Orfina Porche watch design, just like martin shaw who played ray Doyle in the British programme the professionals (CI5). also, I believe the subdials are the same look as the dials you have in the porche motorcar. the Chrono pushers on my watch are hard click just like these Sinn watches and also 200m water resistance with lume and sapphire crystal. great watch costing me just under 1,300 pounds. great video peter, thanks for sharing.

    • @135ipocketrocket2
      @135ipocketrocket2 3 года назад

      @@caspar_gomez Lots to choose from, especially if leaning toward the nearly six grand version. Can get a Seamaster Chrono in that territory, or, for even less, a Breitling Superocean Chrono, with 500m WR. Or, less again, a 3000m WR Avenger Sea Wolf, lol. Looking at the lower priced tier, consider less pricey options from Doxa, or from Chris Ward, or a Seiko Transocean, or drop under a grand for a 7750 powered, 300m WR buy from Revue Thommen. Heck, Aragon put out an NE88 run 200m diver for a few hundred, with ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal. The list goes on.

    • @caspar_gomez
      @caspar_gomez 3 года назад

      @@135ipocketrocket2 6k? this is a 2-3k watch where I am. So I'll discount all the breitlings. The doxa probably closest, but it's about the same price. I'll give you the aragonb or revue thommen, but personally don't think they come close for me. I'd take the sinn over all of them, so hard to call it steep.

    • @135ipocketrocket2
      @135ipocketrocket2 3 года назад

      @@caspar_gomez Spend your money how it pleases you. I'll do the same. Prices are in AUD, which puts it far less for USD, so the high end one is $4700 and change. Means the Breitling options still count, lol. At $2500 for the non-anniversary edition, it's consistent with many opinions that Sinn is about paying more, so that's not my random opinion. What's worth it is relative, obviously. Overpayment is something most watch nuts do, myself include, which is why a U1, or likely U2 these days, is on my shopping list. Still steep for what it is, but that's the branded world of watches.

    • @caspar_gomez
      @caspar_gomez 3 года назад

      @@135ipocketrocket2 yeah can't comment on taste or perceived quality, I'm in Europe so the breitlings and omegas are ~2x the price. the doxa I'd say is comparable in what you get, but they're also comparable in price (bit more here even), so I don't really get the 'very steep' comment. To be fair though I didn't realise you guys are in Australia, you do tend to get shafted on prices

    I don't understand the universal fascination with chronographs with mostly useless sub dials that don't even measure full hours & require quick mental agility to read say 5hrs 43mins. Actually I do - they're bought because they're fashionable and if someone with a Speedy or a Daytona needs to time something then that's what phones are for.
    But why does everyone completely ignore the one mechanical movement that's quicker and more convenient at timing minutes & hours than even any digital or smart watch?
    'Almost' everyone... the Sinn 144 is definitely the wrong Sinn to get excited about.

    • @8AP1

    • @tomoxfford
      @tomoxfford 4 месяца назад

      @@8AP1 Compared to a good usable chrono a smartphone/watch (even with voice control )is fiddly & takes too long to use.
      If G-Shock had a one-touch stopwatch it would immediately become one of the best three chronographs money could buy, alongside the Breguet XXI, IWC Yachtclub & a defunct Bell & Ross Blackbird that no one bought. If watch enthusiasts were remotely interested in chronographs for timings rather than gawpings there’d be many many versions of usable ones at every budget.

    • @8AP1
      @8AP1 4 месяца назад

      @@tomoxfford I get what you're saying, and you are dead right. Most people buy chronographs for the romance and history, and rarely time things more than a few minutes (if at all). Personally, I like this watch for the longevity of the design, and its 70 throwback.
      However, the valjoux 7750 is a very solid time-tested workhouse movement. Yes, the running 30 minutes is a bit of a pain, and you have to look at the elapsed hours to work out whether it's the first 30 or last 30 minutes.
      The Lemania 5100 kind of achieved what you're saying, by using a central minute counter and elapsed seconds counter. That's primarily the reason it's hailed as one of the "greatest" chronograph movements as it was very user friendly, and subsequently heavily used by armed forces. Unfortunately, it's no longer in production, but Sinn developed the SZ01 movement, which mimics the 5100.
      I suggest you maybe take a look at some of the Sinn watches housing the SZ01 or SZ02 movement. That movement was also a joint development with Damasko, so Damasko also use it in their DC8X series. Really nice simple chronographs that are joy to use, and IMO are just a much better design.

    • @tomoxfford
      @tomoxfford 4 месяца назад

      @@8AP1 I have a Sinn 140st with the Lemania inspired SZ01. If it was a flyback it’d have a serious claim to being THE best watch ever!

    reminds me of the old Porsche Design watches of the 1980's.The only thing that bothers me about these Sinn models is the laziness in designing the cases. 14+mm thickness?? Seriously? 20 years ago, 12mm was too thick. So with all of the advanced CAD and 5-axis machining, this is the best we can get?? Pure laziness and cost-cutting.

      Its the thickness of all watches using these standards high grade swiss movements and thick sapphire crystal glass. What do you want a in house movement under 5k with this case tech?

      14mm is fine for most people, especially when it has 200m water resistants in a Chronograph under 5k with pushers and thick sapphire crystal glass front and back! I agree, did you want them to build an in house movement as well for that price? Dont see the cost-cutting at all

      @@benduhigg4423 no, and don't act like a fool please. A quick review of watches from 1990-1995 for example, shows catalogs of mid-grade ETA movements (7750 is one) in 10-11mm cases with 38mm diameters. TAG, Ebel, Omega, all produced budget ($1200 at that time) models that were thin, graceful, rugged, accurate and had water resistance at 120-200meters. I sit here holding a 1995 Seamaster 120 at 10mm and in my other hand a new seamaster 150 and it is 14mm. pure laziness. I don't expect all watches to be like my patek 5712 at 9mm either, but at least give it a try!

      @@chrisp6681 again, I don't want a fanboy debate, but you miss the point. But I will ask you a question: Why did the 7750 only require 10mm cases for the last 30 years, in watches with the same water resistance...and now they make all of the watches 14-15-16mm in thickness? What say you? (and you don't need a thick sapphire crystal for this water resistance) A nomos with in house movement and 200mm of WR is 8.9mm thick. That is the whole watch, BTW.

      I totally agree. Silly thickness is putting me away from chronographs lately.

      What I like about Sinn is that they have personality and their own designs. I have the U50 and 556a and those are on my wrist half of the time

      I disagree. Helmut Sinn started Guinand as a side project that never really took off, no innovation goes into them and the quality is meh.
      Sinn is by far the best german tool watch followed by tutima and muhle glashutte
