Tensor is not fully custom like an apple soc. It uses 2 Arm Cortex X1 cores, 2 Arm Cortex A76 cores, and a quad-core complex of Arm A55 cores. For GPU it has Arm’s Mali G78 GPU cores. And a custom ISP for signal processing. so its not entirely custom. It is somewhat like the Samsung's exynos.

For all people saying that it needs optimization. Let’s get real the tensor cores are not custom made they are made by arm and already used in different SoCs. The tensor chip uses Cortex-A76 cores that are found in kirin 980, exynos 990, so theoretically everything is already “optimized” don’t expect anything more, maybe a ffew more frames and slightly better battery life, but software isn’t magic.

This makes me curious on how much effort devs and Google will do with optimization in the next year. If it will get a lot better or not. Same with battery. I assume the battery will be better since even other phones have battery issues at launch, but it does raise an eyebrow. I was expecting better than s21 ultra at least with an in-house chip. Since I've even seen tests where the pixel 6 had better battery life than the pro.

Still trying the gaming but all in all it has a great battery life and does what it needs too. There are times where the numbers don't tell the whole story. One other thing is that Pixel has a serious ability to pull a Diamond out of a Pootles rear. Guess what the next update brings, you never know where the folks who create the operating system and the hardware .. Apple does that too.

I'm hoping some of this comes down to optimizing the chipset. I think there is potential here but Google sometimes suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder. They tend to experiment more than refine.

2k on Multicore while the Samsung up by what? 50%? And the iPhones by twice as much, sitting at 4k.
And do remember, the previous iPhone 12s were said to be comparable to the PS4 and this time, it's now the PS4 Pro.
      It's not just optimization.
This Android, expect it to perform lower than iPhones. There are a lot of Android smartphones in the market which makes it hard for developers to make a properly optimized app for the masses.
And Androids aren't all made by Google and the OS itself is not as optimized as you might think. Androids have different hardwares and variety.
But this is a good step in the right path for Google as they themselves could finally make and show what an Android phone truly is.

Anyone with a Ryzen CPU will understand that a new processor is not going to have quite as wide of application support, especially when we are talking about gaming. These game developers will need to re-optimize their games to run on the new Tensor chip and I would fully expect nearly all games to run flawless, or at least somewhere on the level with an 888. Just give it time, in 6 months it will be a much different story IMO

@@JoshuaTarvin You can modernize your code to work better on newer devices but you don't change your code to work better on a single device that's either poorly driver optimized, poorly thermally managed or just designed poorly. The Pixel 6's processor in both the standard and Pro versions throttles down worse than any high end phone in the market and surprisingly the Pro is worse than the standard model even though they use the exact same processor.. You will get some OS and driver optimizations that improve performance and make things more efficient and they can work around overheating maybe, reducing performance a little in the process but any games or other apps that make better use of modern processors are going to be new apps and games typically not old ones. There's only so much that will be eeked out of this SOC. I'm not impressed with it as it stands right now.

As far as optimization goes that's the only other area that's lacking but even still the gains may well be small, this chip was designed to work with android really well and do what Google wants their phones to do really well, like ambient computing, pre loading apps ect

@@fewik8567 it's obvious games were considered which is why it has a game mode. They highlighted what most users care about. Besides optimization is everything. If the game or any app isn't optimized it will run like crap. Developers have to do their part. The mali gpu in the 6 pro outperformed the gpu in the 888, eyxnos 2100, and kirin 9000. The snapdragon and others run these games with lower performance. You know it's optimization is the issue. The tensor cpu is more then lighty clocked lower for battery life which is why multi core is a few hundred points lower which is nothing. The gap between the GPU performance between the 888 and tensor is slightly larger like. The 888 gpu scores 5600and the tensor score 6600

Apple can pump out expensive designs for their SoC because they are for internal use, and not really competing with others for pricepoint. They are actually larger than Android counterparts in terms of die sizes too. Helps with high IPC and much more proprietary features since they are vertically integrated. Tensor might be "custom" as well; but they are kinda like PS5/XBox processors where the core designs are derived from already existing commercial products, but just with more architectural tweaks to fit their use. Tensor uses core design largely same as Exynos 2100, though configuration of (2 + 2 +4) is different.

The touch sensitivity was so bad it made me want throw it the camera sets off my ocd
The edges have been no touch sensitivity meaning it won't work when pressed the phone is smaller which means less fov some phone cases make the phone uncomfortable to use the one i had, had no gaming feature's
But some good things to note
Good performance good fps good graphics and some games but i would recommend a better phone like Samsung Galaxy as they are bigger and better for gaming
