Good video. And just bought that spring compressor off ebay since it looks to fit our springs well. Got the bmr lowering springs and koni sports. Now I wait a week!
No I don't. When I built these assemblies I asked a friend of mine for the torque spec, and he is a professional mechanic (like 40ish years). He told me they are all around 40-50ft lbs. But the trick is to hold the piston rod while torquing the nut which is many times not feasible. For this type of assembly just use an impact driver to tighten it. You will feel when the nut bottoms out, from there a couple of ugga duggas will do. That's what I did on these struts and have been running them for over 2 years. Have done the same on many other cars as well, no issues. Good luck.
That all depends on the length of the strut rod. Some stress have longer rods then factory, and especially if you're installing lowering springs you may not need to compress the spring at all.
Sorry for the late reply. You can get this type on eBay for 125-130 bucks. There should be 2 sets of saddles, one for smaller springs like the one in this video, and a larger set for shorter springs (bigger circumference).
Man I just watched a video of a person hammering the crap out of his Bilstein front struts to install that shock perch.. there's no way I'm hammering mine to do that. I'm doing it your way in your video...
Haha. Yeah there are some truly awful strut assembly videos out there. I am not always the safest mechanic, but I don't mess around with springs. The compressor in this vid can be bought from eBay for less than 100 bucks.
@@jcx2bby thanks for responding back.. yes I bought my spring compressor. But this person was taking a hammer to his struts to get the lower black spring perch to go into place... Damn what a disaster....
@@keilylmm6377 I see. Man there is no reason for that, brute force is rarely the answer on a pressurized component. And Bilsteins are way too nice and expensive to take a chance on.
@@jcx2bby that's for sure my friend 👍.. I tossed out my entire stock struts with the upper arms in tact they were in rough shape.. I bought all new BMR upper and lower control arms and a Umi adjustable a arm bracket.. the only thing is I bought brand new GM upper strut mounts but they didn't come with the insulators. I'm not sure if I need them with my Umi upper a arm brackets.
This tutorial was more rare to find than I thought it would be, thank you for uploading this
Thanks BeaSSt. I am glad you found it useful and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Awesome tutorial... I just received my Bilstein hd front struts for my 94 trans am. 👍🤙
Thanks for this feedback and good luck on your precious F-body!

Great video! Do you have the exact torque spec for the strut nut? Very hard to find...

What is the reason to compress coil springs? I got koni sa and strano springs but doesn't look like it needs to be compressed to install strut mount

nice where do I can I get that jack? Thnaks.
