  • We totally transform the performance of this Toyota Hilux 5L LN167 by fitting and tuning a HD Automotive turbo kit to the engine. Starting with only 50HP... we doubled the power output with safe dyno tuning.

    Can you adapt this turbo setup onto a 5L on a 2002 Dyna JDM Ly270 5spd AWD 1 Ton Double cab?

    i've got a tidy n/a 5L with a new fuel system in a hilux but it's only getting about 11 litres per hundred fuel economy. While more power is awesome, i want better economy. Can I expect to get better fuel economy at 80-100kmh on flat roads with this setup? If so, what do you think it will get?

    Any reason not to start your run at say 1200rpm?
    Would be nice to see the boost ramp

    • @hd_hayden
      @hd_hayden  5 месяцев назад +3

      Have started these as low as 1000rpm for testing purposes, the thing about having 57 HP is at 1200rpm it’s probably only got like 5-10hp at this rpm, which is not enough to make a significant enough tractive effort on the rollers for the initial base line run and the run will cut in and out until it has enough torque to read correctly. It just looks ugly when trying to overlay against a tuned run where it does have enough power to read.
      For the sake of the question though, we will be making much more in depth content as well in the future, but for now we are only 7 videos in so the time will come 😊

    hey was wondering if it was worth tuning these ln167 without turbo and if you see much power gains or do you recomend getting a turbo just going from there?

      The t25 garret turbo is good a touch bigger than the tdo4 .spools abit later than the tdo4 about 1800 in the middle there but holds boost abit better I reckon at about 95-110klm range . Will hold Nicely.

      I found the g52 is actually quite strong if it doesnt have a sh1t driver in control ... most g52s die because of v6s and v8s conversions with tough drivers.... my compound turbo diesel 4 runner has not killed a g52 with 38.5 inch tyres...
      yet the w56 in my surf with 33s has to had to have the bearings replaced every 10 months.. I now have gone to a r151 in that....
      Also if you have done a lot of 4x4ing a hilux you would know why a g52 is better to have than the others... they can save hours
