I went no-poo after reading Nat's article a few months ago.
My hair has more volume, is more easily styled, and looks healthier than ever. I even get more frequent comments about it looking fashionable. I have found absolutely zero-downside to this choice, and I'm also saving that 5-10$ a month not buying it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Woah, I’m one of the only people I know who practices fasting (intermittent) and I get the same crazed reactions from people when I tell them I don’t use shampoo and when I tell them I don’t eat until the evenings.

I was street homeless for the best part of 20yrs.I never used 'poo ,but also seldom washed and never used toothpaste. Well,I have to say my hair was at its best at that time. My skin was beautiful and I hardly aged ,maybe 2yrs in 20,true. The downside was ,although beautiful, I didn't smell too good and my feet were a mess. Maybe if I had a regular change of clothing it may have been different. Not homeless anymore, now 61 and still looking good, most people guess my age at 38 no one goes further than 40, so maybe there's something in this. I do keep clean, just not every day. I don't have an odour problem by the way. My mother always told me that water is the best moisturiser and she was right. Creams soften the skin and can make it sag ,so only use when skin is dry. Oh yeah no more sunburn for me.

So this video has been a very interesting conformation of my experience with respect to my hair.

Do a head massage when u take your bath, rinse your hair with hot water abundantly (not to hot) to remove all the oil, try to not put the hot water directly on your scalp but on your hair. (I used to have dandruff but trust me it is completely gone when I stoped shampoo, also it took somes months to have a result dont give up, dont think about it one day it will be gone). Try to rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar (there are many tutorial on internet), then try a hair mask with banana (or avocado or both), honey, and egg. Although it may be a bit different than yours, I want to share my experience.
I tried quitting shampoo some time back and my head would end up developing an odor. I didn’t want to deal with this, so I fished out money to buy a premium, non-drugstore brand of shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t have parabens or phthalates and I only shampoo my hair as needed every 4 days or so. Now I will admit, I was following the advice of another youtube video I had watched, and I have had good results doing this. The premium price pays for itself since I won’t need to buy bottles as often.
I trust your advice and how you’ve had great results from it, but there’s also different hair types to factor in the equation as well. My hair is a bit more wavy and thicker than yours and I believe I produce more sebum from it. It’s also the same principle that acne prone people have. Some people may never have to wash their face because their genetics won’t produce as much sebum to clog pores, but some people will. Therefore, I am one of those people that may benefit from a shampoo routine.

The biggest takeaway is don't buy possibly harmful products from megacorporations if you don't need them
Also, experiment and find whatever works best for you, don't just go with whatever is deemed normal, if you find logical fallacies
So I'm happy to hear you've found what works for you, there's no need to go with just water if it doesn't seem to work
As for the sebum production, you might have possibly pushed through that tough grease and smell phase, but if it was longer than a few months then you've probably made the right choice

Ok, guess what, these 13 years I tried pretty much all medicated shampoos with different ingredients to cure dandruff. Scalp and hair even drier. Can’t stop itching. The searching continues, no end. Every day wishing maybe I am lucky to find a shampoo just for me. Then I was told by a nice doctor, she recommends me to sunshine 20 mins everyday and massage the scalp with coconut oil. After sunshine one afternoon the itchy stops. Oh my. Then I tried rubbing different oil, jojoba oil works wonder for my scalp. Then I tried no shampoo, my scalp is back, it can produce oil by itself. Hope this helps! This is really long journey, sad that bad shampoos are still on market. So people are trapped in the loop. Seeing doctors and prescription are not cheap 😢

I have very long hair now (like hair band long) and I’m about a week into quitting the sham. I’ve tried before but got too grossed out when my hair started to look wet from the oil buildup. So what I’ve found so far to help; is aloe to kill odor. Aloe is known to kill odor causing bacterias and can even be used as a natural deodorant or hair styling gel. I apply it to my head while in the shower, let it sit for a few minutes and wash it out. Doing this, I don’t notice any foul odors in my hair. When I get out, I use a towel to get excess water off my hair but also rubbing the towel gently on my hair can help remove excess oil on the top layers. Then I comb my hair and let it air dry. Good luck to anyone else trying the no poo.

I am trying with baking soda and apple cider vinegar, it has worked for me. I tried no shampoo before but it got into a month and I could not take the itchiness and greasiness any longer, and I stared to use again. But now I discovered a better way to stop using shampoo. All you need to do is to take a teaspoon of baking soda pour into a cup of hot water (to dissolved) let it cool down and then when is time to shower you pour that half into your scalp and massage it. It will take out the build up from the shampoo, rinse and repeat with the other half, after you rinse off the baking soda with water, you put a teaspoon of ACV in a cup of water and with that water you rinse your hair. You can do it every weak and then go lower in the times until your hair adapts and gets used to just water. Also buy a wild boar brush to distribute your oils from the scalp to the ends of your hairs, wash it after every use with castile soap, and let it dry, so you do not put old oils in your hair. Good luck!

Maybe once a month I use a homemade vinegar rinse balanced to a pH of 4. And maybe once a month I use a homemade fermented rice water mix. Other than that, I mist my hair down with distilled water after the shower to rid it of any mineral build up from my tap. And that's it. The only reason I use anything else is because I want to, and I like how it impacts my hair. but I've gone without too, and it's fine. And the distilled water rinse is necessary, given my semi-hard tap water where I live.
I've done this for years, and it works perfectly well.

I'm 1 month without shampoo, my hair feels amazing, my itchiness stopped after week 2, the greasiness went away after week 3 and my flakiness has gone down like 80%. Not completely flake free, but I think that has to do with the amount of healing my scalp has left to do. Like when a girl walks into a room, you get that fresh smell - from whatever hair products she uses.
But with this girl, there was none of that…while not a put off, the “head” smell is not a turn on? If that makes any sense.

So your skin is, kind of, trying to compensate this oil absence boosting the production of them to above the natural level. Thus, your hair starts being greasy the faster the more often you use shampoo

These young girls were found to be developing breasts and the onset of early menstrual cycles due to the hormone levels, including oestrogen in these shampoos. At the time, I thought it made sense but thought no more about it as I do not have that type of hair. Now, years later reading about more and more people getting off the 'poo' band wagon, and the effects to your hair that come with that I am thinking more and more about that article. Loved the video, Nat, and it even inspired me to go "no-poo" for 3 months. It's definitely been a journey of discovery about my hair and I'm just going to share my experience.
The first couple times I skipped shampoo and just used cold water to wash my hair, my hair felt nasty and greasy as anything. After that, however, I noticed that my hair was becoming less greasy and was much easier to style. For about the first month, my hair was looking good and there were no negative results of no-pooing. For the most part I wasn't even using any hair product, I was simply brushing my hair where I wanted it, and it would stay! After that I started noticing a few negative results. 1.) My scalp was super itchy, and I was constantly scratching at it. 2.) I was getting tons of dandruff. I've always used dandruff-reducing shampoos and they have helped significantly. With no-poo, my dandruff was starting to look like a light dusting of snow had fallen at all times. 3.) Although my hair would hold its shape when styled, my hair became really tough to brush and lost almost all of its bounce. It wasn't laying how I wanted it and was starting to look greasy again. Admittedly, I should have cleaned my scalp better using my fingers (or even a shampoo brush, as I've seen recommended). Whatever built up mixture of hair product, sweat, and dead skin the cold water and my fingers weren't clearing away was making my hair matted and tough to brush. It's really hard to keep your scalp clean with no-poo, so please, if you're thinking of trying this: clean your scalp really well!
Having said that, I think I'll be going back to shampoo. I just used it again for the first time again in a few months, and honestly my hair feels amazing right now, much better than with no-poo. I might look into shampoos with more natural ingredients and whatnot as opposed to the Suave I'm using right now. So, it was an interesting experiment, but one that ultimately wasn't doing my hair any favors after the first month or so. This has led me to think that intermittent shampoo use might be the way to go. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

People have washed their hair forever. As long as the soap bar has existed it has been used on hair; they whisked a bit of suds up in water and cleaned their hair, followed up by rinsing in various herbal infusions. The vikings used diluted lye and ashes and likely milder alternatives on a regular basis. The ancient Greeks had olive oil soap. There are a few plants that can be boiled in water to release saponins enough to wash hair and textiles like silk and linen. It is not a fad introduced by the cosmetic industry, but certainly exploited by it. Shampoos are genuine attempts at keeping hair clean and in good condition.

I use flours to wash my hair and body (don't try with wheat and spelt flours it won't work, i don't use rice because it is less eco friendly than others cereals. Legumin contains saponins but some cereals too like oat, flours also helps to absorbs sebum). I don't use eggs because it produce more co2, also i have long hair but i don't use much flours, i put water to make it really liquid. Then i put (when my hair are dry) oil (don't put too much !) on my hair to replace silicones (but they are more efficient than simply oils. Silicones helps to not have dry hair and is simplier to brush without breaks). Don't use cocnut oil if it is not produced in your region, it cause more damage to biodiversity than palm oil. Also i don't use essentials oils, you need a big quantity to make it (5 tonnes for rose petals for exemple) and are not so healthy in environnement, also the deforestation that it may cause, the energy needed so it is a big no for me. Sometimes synthetics are more eco friendly and degrade better. I also use vinegar rinse (also don't put much) with water but if don't it is ok. But sometimes i wonder if what i do is really good, because you also need energy, time and water to make flours so really i don't know what to do. But i saw that ceareals can absorb x2 to x8 co2 that was needed to produce them, also legumin are good (you don't need as much feertilizer and they don't need a lot of energy). But then it is less energy needed to produce plastic bottles which can finish in ocean. Shampoo bar are also not always the solution (they contains more surfactants than normal liquid shampoo, and you need also energy to make them and it is not always good in rivers). Don't try baking soda then vinegar, you already fragilize your hair with the baking then you add vinegar that can worsen the situation, so no don't (for those trying the no poo). I sometimes add a little bit of honey (or sugar syrup) to my flours. There is the possibility to use plant powder and clays but i don't know, sometimes they come from far and is it really ecological? I have grassy hair but flours works well, you need to wait 10-30 min with the mask on. I use oat flour (saponins and absorbs sebum) for body and hair, i also add buckwheat for my hair (absorbs sebum). I use for my deodorant : sea salt with water in an old spray or alum stuck. I wash my teeth with water then do a rince with sea salt (not raffined) + water. I don't really recommend to people to only wash hair less often than once a week, all the bacterias and fungus which can lead to your hair loss and thinier hair.

I don’t use shampoo either. I make soap at home and I use my homemade soap on my hair. I superfat my soap so I can use it on my hair. If I need to clarify my hair I spray it with either lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, then wash it with my homemade soap. My hair is soft and thick. My hair is clean and smells fine. I will never put chemicals on my hair. I let myself naturally grey and I like my hair natural. Every hair dresser I have ever had has told me that my grey is beautiful. The grey is evenly distributed rather than patchy and the color is nice. I love natural.

If you dont clean your scalp you can develop Seborrheic dermatitis. It has happened to me twice. Basically too much oil alters the environment of the scalp causing it to become dry, itchy and bleeding in spots just as dry skin anywhere can, especially when picking or scratching it.

Haven't used shampoo or conditioner for over a year and I'm a dude with an average of 8-12 inch hair length. I wash every 2 days with warm water and I comb the hair with my fingers from root to tip to bring the oils down to the ends then just spend a little moment gently pulling my fingers through the tips to get the oil out all while having running water on the head. Iv either gone nose blind or adjusted to the scent of my hair but it isn't bad and smells kind of sweet. I do once a week comb my hair after it's mostly dried from a wash.
I notice women complement my hair more often now.
I also found no more use for hair oil products but I do sometimes use a little just to get a nice scent.

    • @deusvlad2.083
      @deusvlad2.083 Год назад +2

@@ErwinTheBolocBoloc I use cologne too, but shampoo cleans the hair, and sometimes it needs to clean the oils off it to renew more oil on top that's why we wash hair with a clarrifying shampoo once a month, whilst every day we can use ones that contain oils and smell nice.
I use cologne for my neck and body, not my hair, cologne typically comes with alcohol which dries out the hair, and the ones that don't contain alcohol, they not made for the hair and can cause allergic reaction in some people because hair has a unique DNA and PH level compared to the skin which is more acidic.
Besides not using shampoo and just water will eventually allow certain microbes to live microscopically on your scalp, that itself is nasty right? lol shampoo gets rid of them and is pure good bacteria only.

Then I oiled my scalp and ends with jojoba oil. I have been brushing my hair twice a day with a boar bristle brush and also a fine tooth comb. It feels great!!! No itch!!! I'm also going with no soap. I'm using 1/2 & 1/2 vinegar and water. I itch less. I think it will take longer for my skin to stop itching. The oil feels really good, btw.

Yeah i deal with dandruff, itchy scalp, hair loss & hair thinning, loss of volume (even tho i’m not even 30 yet) and while i saw a degree of relative improvement after switching to a shampoo that doesn’t have parabens & sulfates, i do still deal with these issues plus lately the volume loss has spiked out of nowhere despite still using the same shampoo. My issues were already bad enuff with my old normal shampoo and are worse the more days i go without a shower, so i can’t imagine how bad they might get if i stopped using shampoo & conditioner entirely.

For the naysayers, the point is chemicals aren't always good for people's skin and keratin. If you reduce the alkaline and raise the acid, not good. Likewise if you raise the alkaline.
Balance is paramount and that's why using natural products void is harsh chemicals. Oils and plant based purification are far better for humans skin and hair.
