Today is all about planting the summer garden. The sweet potatoes go into the ground, which for us is a sure sign that the hot weather is here and summer is official! I plant sweet bell peppers and hot peppers. Jalapeno is my favorite but this year I also try shishito and sugar rush peach. I plant a dozens of basil plants. Five different varieties fill my gardens. Genovese basil which is a standard culinary basil for making a variety of dishes, including pesto. Red basil, lemon basil, Thai Basil, and Tulsi basil. Tulsi Basil is my favorite because of it's beauty, aroma and medicinal uses. As I harvest my cabbage and broccoli I reflect on how grateful I am for such a fruitful harvest in my first year garden. I give tips on how to grow successful cabbage and broccoli as well as other brassicas.

Sunflowers make me so happy. I think it’s awesome that you are sharing the joy with your neighborhood. ❤🌻
I love the friendships you have. What a blessing to have a friend come over and just help get the garden going and then hang out for hours through dinner and such. Such a gift. Hard as ever to find friends who “get it.”
Heather is such a sweet friend, and yes!!! It's amazing to have friends who love the garden as much as we do❤🤣🍅🍆☘️🌱🥕🥦🥬🌻the sunflowers are going to be gorgeous!
Give God the thanks and praise for your beautiful garden. To God be the glory.
Amen.💜💜
I dry my broccoli leaves and use them in soups, even broccoli cheddar soup. I even use them in stir frys and hashes when they're young.
That’s an awesome friend right there. Gardening is SO MUCH FUN! ❤
The best!
when using the drill auger put it in reverse to remove from dirt and you will have a clean hole
I did.🥰
Good morning BRI and ÀLL,. Excellent and EXCITING to garden with family and friends.
Love FROM MICHIGAN GREAT LAKES STATE 🛐✝️🀄
Thank you. Your reply was timely for me. I purchased a drill auger to dig post holes for anchoring support posts for my raised beds. Your tip is very helpful.
Also, hold it with both hands or get a handle for it so that you don’t wrench your wrist.
@@daisygurl3601 the auger I purchased is an 8 inch, 40volt battery operated one. I am hiring a friend to handle ir for me. It weighs 70 lbs and is beyond my weight limit, but the 2 of us together can handle it. It has handle bars on two parallel sides. My friend is a geologist who has worked with some heavy equipment in the oil fields. A dear friend and a brilliant woman. We are helping each other.
kids, sunshine good friends and a garden does not get any better.
Bri your positive attitude, sweet parenting, and determination to do all the things is truly inspiring.
your energy, the joyful sound of your children, the knowledge you share...makes me smile. thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Squash plants can climb up a trellis for super easy harvesting. They look pretty on trellises at every stage, and it is amazing to see how well the plants hold their produce no matter how heavy it gets. My daughter weaves the vines as they grow up the trellis, so blossoms and eventually squash appear on both sides. She uses them as a decorative garden feature.
Crook neck squash and black beauty zucchini are bushy rather than growing on vines. But there are many types of vining squash for sure!
@@BrifromscratchI actually watched a video of a guy who trellised his zucchini by cutting off the leaves as the squash plant grew and he harvested the squash. He said it helped with squash bugs as well to get the plant up off the ground. I thought that was interesting.
Just the thought of basil and tomatoes growing side by side makes me happy! 😍 Imagine the scent!!
Woo hoo! Thinking back to JUST a few weeks ago, LOOK at what you and the kids and friends and family have accomplished!!
I cannot wait to see the garden explode. I love sunflowers and am excited to see them arrive, bloom and spread beauty for everyone. Let it rain....
100% agree that having a friend to help and encourage turns the chores into an enjoyable exercise 🪴🌻🪴😎
Joyful’s dress is so pretty and the color of the flowers accents her beautiful skin!!!
Your garden is looking so beautiful. You mentioned that y'all don't eat much okra, but you've also mentioned loving all the freeze dried snacks. So I wanted to offer a suggestion. I slice my okra into rounds and freeze dry, then I'll spritz the dry okra with a little oil and add seasoning of choice (I really like Cajun seasoning). It makes a nice tasty, crunchy snack!
I can not believe how fast your garden grows!!
I love sunflowers. One year I grew a whole role down my fence line and the deer ate every single one of them in one night. My heart of joy was broken. Your garden is amazing and you should be very proud!!!
I am loving all the explanations as you are planting. I am learning so much from you! You are a natural educator! ❤Thank you❤
You are so welcome
Amen!
Freeze dried okra is an awesome snack
So proud of you, your kids, your friehnds! The garden is exploding! I love it!
Women can do almost anything! And do it beautifully!

Your smiles and excitement in your garden has inspired me to plant flowers, tomatoes and bell peppers this year in pots! Thank you Bri!! From Montgomery al ❤😂😊
I love your friends ❤️
Bri, you are so so lucky to a friend like Heather. You'll be life long friends, and if you have a hand full, you're one lucky girl. !! Made me miss my girlfriends. I live miles and states away.. Where I live I don't have any.. I hate it.
Yes that cabbage is absolutley amazing! Oh Bri and all your helpers my gosh that garden is just rocking! Can not wait for the sunflowers what a wonderful idea!
Wow! It seems like you just had all those amazing friends helping you with this! What a harvest! :D

You definitely have green fingers❤
I love your channel so much. It is just so refreshing how you lead your family, and others watching that are growing through struggles, to be positive, to find joy in the positive things that God has placed in your lives and continue on even in the face of adversity. You have a remarkable ministry through this channel! God bless you always!
Great friends, children & gardens! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to all 🤗💜🇨🇦
A busy day !! The small gardener’s are the sweetest!! You are doing a wonderful job Bri ‼️‼️
Every year I wish I had a garden buddy. This year I did it alone again. But I enjoy it. And my husband helps with canning season. Which is a great help. I planted twice the food this year. And made 2 more smaller gardens. Even planted popcorn this year,
Thanks for sharing your garden journey and congrats on the success!
Can't get over how fast this grew. Seems like you just planted. Awesome!!
Awesome cabbages and broccoli! 👍 Very excited to see the summer garden flourish as well. Hope the rain came and you didn't have to water in the dark! 😁
Beautiful watching everyone working together
Bree if you have a handle for your drill, you must use it because the drill can twist and break your wrist
Another happy, joyful and interesting video of happy kids and a gorgeous garden. What a blessing all of you are. You started my day on a beautiful and happy theme that will carry me through❤️ many blessings to all of you. I can’t wait for the next post…that you take such time and effort for our benefit is just amazing to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Hugs to all🤗🤗👍👍🙏🙏
I’m so happy for you to have a big beautiful garden! And a friend to help is the cherry on top!
You have such an awesome friend, Bri. What a fabulous garden you have.
Hi Bri. Good job transforming that space.
Such a blessings to have great friends🌸
OMG I can't wait to see those sunflower 🌻 they are going to be amazing... Your garden is amazing. Thanks for sharing beautiful SoilSista ❤
You can never plant too many peppers.... PAPRIKA!! The flavor is incredible!
Bri you are such a good Mama, and building a homestead from scratch.
Your garden looks great Bri. It was nice that your friend helped you.
Bri, There is NOTHING more beautiful than the sweet aroma of Holy (Tulsi) Basil. It was when I was recovering from covid I got in Jan '21 and in the fall while planting the fall garden, that I realized I had my smell back. not even a.Rose.smells as sweet.
I love using my auger! If you continue to run it going in and pulling it back out it will leave an empty hole and won't catch and tweak your wrist nearly as often. Your garden is looking absolutely amazing!
What a Great Friend you have- she is willing to help you in any way possible. Thank You to your Friend. Great Planting & great work to you all. Cheers Denise- Australia
Bri! I see you shining for Him✨
Your garden is comming along nicely love seeing you in your happy place the garden bri your looking so glowing xx
Oh my !!! What an inspiration….
Loved this with your fab helper
I’m going to do what you do when you do it - and it’ll make me feel more confident and as happy as you 😉💫
Bri, it all looks incredible! I knew you'd do amazing ❤ I have been gifted so many colours of sunflower seeds out of friends gardens , I'm so excited to plant them this year. Your sunflowers are going to be stunning🌻🌻🌻Thank you for sharing lovely ❤
When you have to plant seedlings in the hot part of the day, put a bucket, cardboard box or even a large garden pot over the top of the plant. we included info on that on out seedlings/transplanting video.
Garden looks amazing Bri! Can’t wait to see it all explode in a few weeks!
I can’t wait to see the sunflowers!
Bri, if you’re going to use your auger attachment on the drill. Rather than hurting your hand, when you’ve drilled to the depth you want, push the button near the drill trigger to change to reverse and the auger will come out far easier and less damage to your wrist. Hold your drill firmly and don’t press the trigger unless you’ve got a full firm hold. Your garden is looking awesome. I live in a colder country and I planted my courgettes (zucchini) on the 15th March and I’ve only got about 4-5” in height, no produce yet. I’m a bit discouraged but, I don’t expect success however, I’ll keep trying.
Such a blessing are good friends .
Oh my word Bri!! You're amazing, that garden!! Wowza!! ❤
I love growing sweet potatoes!
YaY another planting party🎉.
Basil wafting in the breeze makes me smile❤.
JO JO IN VT 💞
What a great way to spend time with a friend.
Broccoli leaves are delicious as cooked greens, don't throw them away you would be surprised how good they are, even de-stalked and cut up small and added to salads! My Grandma taught me that, because she grew up during the depression, but I am glad she did, because otherwise I would have missed out on this delicious green! Cooked with Bacon grease or butter, It to me taste like a cross between collard, cabbage, and broccoli!
That cabbage is amazing ! Your whole garden looks great .. we live in Southeastern Ohio we are praying for rain also. For the last couple of days we have had the smoke from Canada . We still have flowers and squash to plant but we have had drs appointments
I’ve learned so much with this garden u did.lwow the cabbage heads..beautiful!!!🩷
Your garden is growing so well
Bri you are amazing. I'm not a gardener but I learn a lot from you.
Great video!
Awsome a little hard work and you get the reward looks good
I had to make my market rows wider so I could do the panels like that, but I also do the tunnel across two rows and I put brassicas under on either side of the walkway with beans and gourds on the trellis 😊 I find it amazing how quickly you have built that garden! You're doing great!
So fun to see all the kids enjoying themselves, eating straight from the garden, swinging in hammocks, sliding in the slippery dip, planting food and flowers. Everyone had a wonderful time. Zucchini bread is better than carrot cake, easy to make, grated Zucchini can be frozen too.
That’s great. Everything coming out super. Congratulations 😋😋
I plant all my peppers and my tomatoes with an auger. Super quick. You better put two hands on that drill or you’re gonna twist your wrist. Oops looks like you found that out. Lol 🥰I plant my peppers deeper than you did yours. And I’ve never had an issue with them. Also, I have clay soil. With good compost on the top. There are tons of minerals in that clay soil. I also pinch them. Pinching the center stem creates more branches from the side. Also creating a much more sturdy branch like stem. Two years ago I had so many peppers I didn’t grow any last year. And I plant them deep and I pinch them. It’s been a successful method for me.
The garden is looking amazing Bri! That's exactly what I did yesterday before the storm came I pulled out plants that were dying and I added more composed and directly sowed some seeds and in another corner of the yard I put Boston Merrill, and some Dragon tongue green beans, some kajari melons. To add to already a plethora of plans thank goodness. And I thank God for the produce everyday. Cuz that's what I'm basically eating on The Daily
Your garden is sooooo beautiful!!!!
Your garden is looking so beautiful, Bri.
Beautiful cabbage!
Amazing goodness! Y’all got SO much done! 🙌🏽🎉
Hi Bri,
My husband drinks Tulsi tea for another reason - mouth ulcers. He's been on prescription medication for many years and these occasionally cause mouth ulcers. The tulsi tea can help heal and therefore shorten the life span of the ulcers.
@Bri From Scratch
Hi dear Bri. A great tip for planting plants, especially sweet potatoes, to increase the chances of the sweet potato cuttings succeeding in the soil, it is advisable to put them in a jar of water the day before planting, so that they absorb the water and the cells of the plant are full of water. According to my experience, there is no problem watering immediately after planting, even when it is very hot, on the contrary, it cools the soil around the plants and increases their chances of success. I live in a very hot area most of the year with a short winter and water is the key to success.
The garden looks awesome and so good to have great friends!
I picked my Broccoli leafs and dehydrated them into a powder. I add them to different recipes like meatloaf and such for extra nutrition 😊
You are going to have one huge garden
What a beautiful vlog! So upbeat and informative! Thank you, Bri!
Oven roasted squash is delicious. Course fried is great too
Love your family so much!!! From 🇵🇭Philippines ❤❤
When you drill your hole, reverse the drill, and it will come out nicely 😊
Just a suggestion, reverse the drill when pulling the auger bit out of the hole you created.
We did. 🥰
@@Brifromscratch Your garden is looking so good! I love that you are sharing it with us, your viewers. Sending prayers.
Thanks
Okra thickens stews and soups too.
I plant basil and marigolds around my tomatoes, peppers, and okra to help ward off bugs. Plus I figure there is no such thing as to much basil. Pesto!! I freeze enough to get me through to the next summer. I have enough basil fans at school that I was bringing in grocery bags of it to friends last fall.
You have to try making basil tea and drinking coffee it iced! Its screams summer and its so refreshing.
