Bought my Probe LX the 1st weekend it was released on May 14, 1988. I can't tell you how many times people were stopped in their tracks, pointing, yelling. It was INCREDIBLE!
I have a 90 Probe 3.0 Vulcan, automatic/manual transmission digital cluster, whole package in my garage waiting to be reborn. Awesome car and a absolute pleasure to drive. It had a 1000 RMS 157 decibel system that cooked the front wiring harness had to throw sand through the grill to put it out lol. Good memories. Can't wait to begin restoring the car!
The sport compacts of the 90's were awesome. I wish they could come back with the power and technology of the cars today. I had a 3.0L Probe. It was a great car for the time and fun to drive.
This was my first car. 89 ford probe lx white with blue seats. I paid 1900.00 for it back in 95. That car had over 250k miles on it when I sold it for 500.00. I miss that little car.
I’m going to look at an 89 LX digidash 5 speed on Tuesday. My friend has a motorcraft red 89 LX automatic, last year we drove 4 hours to pick up a motorcycle and IT FIT IN THE TRUNK LOL
Nice informative video, but it should be noted that the only engine available in the '89 Probe was the 2.2L Mazda engine. This video seems to imply that the Ford 3.0L V6 engine was available as an upgrade that year. That happened starting with the 1990 model.
Had the same car, same color but a 90. Drove it until 2003 and it was falling apart. The 3.0 V6 was still running strong. Loved that car and miss it still.
I own a 2nd Gen Probe and Its awesome, almost no one knows what they are. People that do know make my day and the probe makes theirs. Theyre happy little cars, theyre sporty and fun is had at almost any speed (atleast in a manual) I always lose it when I see one, even tho im usually driving one myself!
Had a '90 GT that looked just like the one in the commercial in the end. Non-digital dash (on purpose), 5-speed (think I heard that was the only choice for the GT), and beautiful. Turbo had lots of power, it could hold a lot, and great MPG. Loved that car but for one thing: the stupid automatic seatbelts. If not for that, I might go out and get one for a daily driver. BTW, owned 2 Mustangs at one point. They were '67s. Glad the Mustang stayed V8 and RWD, but given the choice of a Fox Body and the Probe of the same vintage, think I'd pick the Probe.
great video . honestly i so the probe for the first time last year and instantly fell in love with it . a 1996 gen2 , blac , 2.0 16v . and my initial thoughts were , soooo efin JDM , this is a supra , rx7 , miata i can actually afford. especially because all the engine and drive drivetrain parts are mazda 626 mx6. so i both the car and i love it even more after spending a year with it. :D
Good video. Any idea what's that tiny screen in the middle of the dash called? Mine slowly fades when the lcd liquid spreads and covers the numbers completely. I have no idea what's it called in english and would appreciate immensily for some help.
I had a '90 LX it was called the trip computer - Here is a link to the original brochure: autocatalogarchive.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Ford-Probe-1990-USA.pdf
Wow. I had an 89 LX. Bought it in.late '88. Red exterior, grey / black interior. People loved the styling. I had it as a second car until 2001. That Mazda engine was indestructible. Too bad the transmission, which was Ford, had to be rebuilt at 60,000 miles. All my friends thought the tilting cluster with the wheel was the coolest thing ever. Thanks for the video. Brought back lots of memories
partial driver/passenger windows of general release engineering coupes of this era from manufacture Nissan bypassed the ford probe of this era and went to McLaren after instead and rainguards aren't even used on thee Ferrari sport utility vehicle TODAY

The 89 GT was only available with the manual transmission.
For 1990, the automatic becane an option for the Probe GT.
The back half of the 4th Gen Prius reminds me of the 1989 Ford Probe.

I have a second gen probe 93 gt 5 speed. I found a 91 probe lx. The body style is growing on me

If you ever do a 2nd gen try and find one with a KLZE swap and 5 speed... and working brakes.
This was my first car in 2003
Vulcan V6 was only available in 1990-1992
A RWD version of this might be interesting...
Where I can find repair manual for 89-92 for free?
The cavalier should take the award for worst brakes. RIP
The FC3S’ little brother :)
