It's your files. You shouldn't have like 8 different Sonic files to choose from. I had the same issue with a turbo everdrive before. Over half of those extra files won't do anything and I have no idea what they are actually for. Find a file set with just 1 file to choose from for each game.
It's not the files, that is the file set that comes with the cart and I can verify that they work just fine. Those are all actual Genesis ROMs, they're just different revisions of the games, and all those Sonic & Knuckles are the various combinations of the S&K cart with different Sonic carts.
I have two MD Everdrive and MD Everdrive 3 pro, both from Aliexpress and they both work fine, some games are not starting showing message that they are restricted to PAL mode and even if I change the region they don't start, but anyway with the 99% of the games they work perfectly fine.
Definitely check your hunch about the Model 1 Sega Genesis. I would also recommend opening it up and seeing if something that needs soldering is not soldered. I've found some Made in China stuff lacks proper QC, especially in aftermarket SEGA stuff. Some through-hole components have no solder, etc. Again, since you didn't catch my response to the Made in China issue which you mistook what I commented and slandered me, stating I was condemning a whole nation of people, NO!, I do not condemn the Chinese people and thousands of years of culture. I do believe there is a lack of Quality Control and a lot of cutting corners in Made in China products, which leads to a lot of frustration on the consumer end and I bet also in those companies which partner with Chinese manufacturers--not to mention the intellectual copyright stealing. This may not be a problem in the most free of Libertarian-led societies, but the world is run via a Capitalist model.
4:02 "heresy." I used to think the Model 3 sucked, but it actually has decent video output. I like its size too. Overall, the model I prefer is model 2 since they have compatibility with the CD and 32X and there are variants which produce great stock video and decent stock sound. It also has stock stereo sound output, which both the model 3 and model 1 do not. You have to mix in the stereo sound from the headphones port on the model 1, which looks jank, in my opinion. All the Sega Genesis models can be modded to obliterate or at least smooth down the problems in certain areas. Also note: the model 1 Sega Genesis and its variants are not free from problems and those which are known to be the paradigm for sound of the Sega Genesis series have issues with audio production that screw up how sound effects or music are played. Most people get used to a model. Heck, some issues are outside the Sega Genesis' control such as the TV, speakers, use of scaling hardware, etc.
@@odie2495All model 1s with the YM2612 produce incorrect sound in some games like Earthworm Jim. They miss notes, for example. You can look into the issue for more details. The model 2s don't have this issue, though possibly the VA2 and VA2.3 model do since they use a YM2612. I don't recall if the issue was fixed for them.
@@WhatsOnMyShelf Yes, the only reason why Earthworm Jim has trouble with playing New Junk City is because the music is looking for a pin on the YM3438 that isn't present on the YM2612. However I found a hack/patch online that fixes the issue.
@@odie2495I have no doubt there are patches for games like Earthworm Jim, Super Fantasy Zone, etc. just like there is a Game Genie code that makes Hellfire's music play at the model 1 speed when the cart is played on a model 2. For the most part, if you have a stock model 2, you don't have to patch or game genie code anything. In fact, that's the only example of devs hard coding over some error in the YM2612 that I can think of which makes the music or sounds play wrong on anything other than a model 1.
the sms roms run off the cart cause all the hardware is in the system. you dont need a master system. the power base converter only acted as a pass-through cause the carts were a different shape there was no hardware in it.

.md is just renamed .bin, .gen is the same. SMD, on the other hand, is different file type - dump from Super Magic Drive (this has to be converted).

Ngl, the Model 1 with the VA6 or other revisions that have the YM2612 sound the best imo.

mk2 exists as a cheaper alt to keep costs down,mk2 are the true inferior product..

its probs the gen3 thats the issue,its not a real megadrive its some at games pos,you need a real mk1 or 2 megadrive.
i would not put that cheap thing in any genesis . it could do damage just throw it out.

Compared to most reviews on these they do work. Probably a bad unit or something on your end like bad roms or with the system.
